Chapter 41: The truth about Brian

The dealer does hit. And gets a ten. Hey, Brandon could have had twenty-three. I could have had twenty-seven. Instead, we both got money. Cool. “How’d you do that?”

“It’s probability,” Brandon says. “Strategy.”

“You sound like you know what you’re doing.” Uh oh. Maybe he’s a gambling freak. Did I just go to a casino with a gambling addict? I hope not.

“I know the theory,” he says. “I used to be really into cards.”

“Gambling?”

“Magic.”

“With a K?”

“With a rabbit.”

“Oh.”

Magic with a K, which is spelled Magick (ie, incorrectly) is supposedly the real stuff. I guess what Brandon is talking about is more the Harry Houdini kind of thing. That’s cool. I love magic. Both kinds.

So we keep gambling. After about an hour, I’m down to seventy bucks, and Brandon has one hundred and eighty. He just knows the theory. That’s bull. We really haven’t been talking much. That’s bad. I don’t feel like playing until I lose all my money. I’m really getting bored.
