Your sister deserves happiness.

Ch-29

He was thankful for Maximus's presence in her life. A smile formed on his face as he looked at them with contentment.

He was at least happy that she got a good spouse.

His sister deserved happiness. While he forgot that he was tormenting someone else's sister with grief and pain. He forgot that there was karma that always proves what goes around comes around.

Adira, who sat beside him, felt jealous of her sister-in-law.

Why Life was so different for each of them?

Weren't they married to different races?

She is happy… unlike her.

Adira doesn't know whether she has to be happy that she got to marry her mate or cry because her mate was nothing but a dick.

This little act of Lenora left a bitter feeling in Adira's chest. It doesn't mean she hates her or wants to ruin her sister-in-law's relationship with her brother or ruin her life. Everyone deserves happiness but… she felt like laughing at her own pathetic situation. She couldn't help but compare herself to her. Lenora was happy more than she was.

Turning her head, she watched her husband smiling at his sister's happiness.

So… his sister can be happy but not someone else's sister, huh?

She felt like her heart was being pierced with million needles at his reaction.

Tears threatened to spill out from her eyes but she blinked them out. She quickly lowered her head and said nothing as she played with her cutlery. She wished to disappear from this place. All of a sudden she started feeling suffocated in her very home. Adira could no longer digest the food on her plate.

No one noticed her except for Zaros. He noticed the sad smile which grazed her lips. He just looked at her face for a few seconds, but he turned his head towards his sister who has a genuine smile on her face, which bought an instant smile to his face. He ignored his wife just like that.

Then after a few seconds, he turned his head towards the plate. He noticed that Adira barely had any food but she got up saying that she finished her food.

Every bite Adira took was getting stuck in her throat. She felt like she might die due to the suffocation. When she can no longer take it, she put her cutlery down and stood up from her seat.

"I will take my leave. You guys go ahead," Adira said with a tired smile. She couldn't say that she can't take it anymore. Adira wanted to run into her brother's embrace and cry telling him how to mean, harsh, and animalistic her husband was. But she kept them for herself. There were many things for her brother to deal with already and she doesn't want to add more of them to it.

"What's wrong?" Maximus asked. His voice was laced with worry and concern.

Zaros have to say Maximus really loved his sister. And he would use that as a weapon without any guilt or remorse.

"Brother, I am having a stomach ache. Can't eat," Adira said not even meeting her brother's gaze before she stood up. She would cry if she look at someone's face now. And she doesn't want to look at anyone right now. She decided to hurry back to her wing.

When she was about to turn around and leave, she suddenly looked at Lenora with a sad smile, "I am happy for you, sister-in-law," she said. Saying that she left without turning around or sparing any glance at anyone. Adira quickly wiped the tears that slipped from her eyes.

She directly went to her chambers and fell on her bed. More tears escaped from her eyes at the thought of her future. Nearly two months passed since she met Zaros. The first few days before meeting the witch, Elphaba Glory was nice. But… now… he is showing her hell.

She wished she can escape. And even he was wishing the same too. She wondered what the reason for it. Maybe knowing the terms of the pact would do for now. Adira may get to know a thing or two. Maybe she can find a loophole and escape this hell called marriage. She shall ask her brother. Adira decided to ask her brother directly instead of her husband.

These days she was getting tired easily due to the emotional stress. Her husband was proving that he was a heartless jerk. And also… she was getting tired of constant overthinking and crying.

Now… she has to make sure to gain some information from her brother before she left the palace. She wondered what's the thing that made her husband turn into a heartless jerk right after he confirmed she would never say no. Adira cried silently before she got tired and slept.

Zaros entered his wing with a complicated expression. He remembered her broken expression when she saw his sister being happy in her marriage. When he saw his wife wasn't there in his wing, he was worried a little. He went to her old wing and saw her mascara-smudged eyes with her tears and slept. He felt a slight heartache. But again it's replaced with anger and resentment.

He harshly pulled her out of the bed with a jerk making her fall onto the ground. Adira woke up with fear crawling back into her bones. She just ran to the corner of her room and crouched on the floor trying to escape him.

"Little Bitch, don't cast your evil eye on my sister. She deserved to be happy," he said.

Adira raised her head and looked at him with shocked eyes. Her shocked eyes gradually turned into sad, disappointed, and then self-deprecating. She gave a sad and self-deprecating laugh to him. It's as if she was giving that smile to herself.

"I am happy for her. At least she is happy. She deserves happiness unlike me, right?" Adira said before passing out as a single tear slipped from her eyes.
