Chapter 46 : Casualties of War
"Is he awake?" Seraphine asks as she pushes the door open. The previous night passed without him moving, so his family went to bed for the day. The sun set an hour ago, and he still hasn't moved.
I shake my head and sigh. "No. Hey, Seraphine, how long does it take for humans to turn into vampires?"
"About twenty-four hours, but it varies on the individual. My mother fully turned after thirteen hours, and my father took twenty. And, of course, Nia, Quinn, Sirius, and I were all born vampires, so we didn't go through that. We were never human, but vampire children drink milk for the first couple of years of their lives. Then they graduate to a meat smoothie." She chuckles and shakes her head. "Around the age of six or seven, they can no longer be sustained by those meat smoothies, and we drink blood until we're killed."
I groan and lean my head against the back of the chair. "I really hope you're not telling me there's a chance he'll be unconscious for six years."
