Genius Uncle

"Uncle Arkil, Gram asked me to give this to you." Luke opened the door and placed the sandwich box down on the ground when he saw that his uncle was mumbling to himself.

"Keep the train going, I gotta go"

His uncle was a handicapped middle-aged man with a haggard look on his face. Gram said that he lost his left leg in the last war and he couldn't get up since then.

He went to the doctor but the doctor couldn't help with anything since his uncle was not co-operating and there was nothing they could do about it.

Luke couldn't possibly thinking about drugging his uncle and drag him all the way to the hospital to get all of that checked up, wait for the prosthesis, drugged him again and force him to wear the prosthesis and make him work, could he?

Gram would killed him before he tried it out even if it worked. She never took the family matter lightly.

Luke's uncle usually wore an old black short with something printed on the back as he never moved out from his favorite chair so Luke didn't managed to read the word.

His old white-shirt was stained with bits and crumbs of foods and sauces resembling some kindergarten kids' canvas which disgusted Luke to no end.

This is not the first time that Gram asked Luke to bring some food for his uncle and usually he would put them down on the ground, say the magic word and then went on to his room but this time Luke noticed something different that he couldn't catch up at first but he soon felt it again.

Even though his uncle was in the same old chair that he loved to sit, with the same dirty set of clothes the atmosphere in the room has changed for a second when he looked at his uncle.

For a moment, he felt that he was back to his father's lab on the attic.

The feeling of desolation and hopelessness that once were in the room was now gone and they were replaced with some thing that he was very familiar with yet he couldn't recall.

With this unfamiliar yet familiar feeling and the nostalgic sensation, Luke blurted out.

"What are you mumbling about uncle?"

Hearing that, Arkil showed his surprised but he still replied,

"Nothing buddy, I just seem to recall something that I invented and it would change the world if it appear now." He paused while looking proudly at his nephew

"At the time when I was young, I and your father was mentored by a professor. His name was Lukaar.

He was nameless for someone our league and we had our discontent, however, the theory that he came up with was crazy. Like real crazy.

When we heard it for the first time, me and your father looked at each other and tried to find a way to submit the re-mentorship's form. I mean, he was mental. He is, actually. But not until he showed us that it was actually feasible. You should see our faces at the time" Uncle Arkil looked up at the ceiling and reminisce, showing his rare smile.

Luke rolled his eyes and walked out of the room without giving the story a second thought, "I thought you guys hate each other. I didn't know you were mentored under the same master"

His uncle always boasted of how he and Luke's father invented several wonders and how famous they were. Luke never bought it. Not even once.

However, ever since Luke was old enough to have a room by himself, he would sometime wake up at night by the sound his uncle was making.

He would shouted 'If I knew you would do that, I would have killed you, you piece of sh*t' in the middle of the night and then fell back to sleep.

So, the story of his father and uncle spending their time together with friendship and bro-energy environment while making legendary scientific breakthrough was thought provoking and logically impossible for Luke.

"Good night, Uncle Arkil" Luke said before closing the door behind him

After Luke left, his uncle looked out of the window and sighed. There was an unwillingness in his eyes and deep determination hidden within those depths.
