Chapter 87: Family Ties
The late afternoon sun filtered through the tall windows of our study, casting golden rays across the rich wood furniture. Damien sat at his desk, his phone in one hand and a pen tapping nervously against the other. His usual air of confidence seemed to falter as he stared at the screen, his thumb hovering over the call button.
"Are you sure about this?" I asked, sitting on the edge of the desk.
He looked up, his stormy gray eyes meeting mine. "No. But it feels like the right thing to do. If there's any chance of closing the door on this chapter, I have to take it."
I nodded, understanding his need for closure, even if I wasn't entirely convinced it would lead to anything productive. Damien had severed ties with most of his family after the inheritance battle, but the scars they left ran deep. Now, with our business under threat and a potential traitor in our midst, he felt compelled to revisit old connections.
