In Trouble

Mevis was relaxing on her bed, contemplating the information she had just received from the strange baker. He had claimed to be an Elemental. Not only did she not know what an Elemental was, she simply did not trust anyone.

She tried not to move in case her wounds started acting up again.

She had managed to steal some stuff on the way to the club, but she doubt it was enough.

Someone knocked on the door.

Mevis shakily got off the bed and made her way over to the door. She held her knife behind her as she looked through the spy hole. The person outside called out, "Oh, uh... it's me!"

She vaguely recognised the person. He was the one who had noticed her struggling and offered her a place to stay. The boss of the establishment was outside. Mevis opened the door. The boss smiled widely as he said to her, "Just wanted to check in on you since you're injured. How are you feeling?"

"Doing better," Mevis replied.

"I have some medical supplies if you need any," The boss offered.

He handed her a plastic bag of medical supplies. She thanked him, holding the plastic bag with her hand not holding the knife. He noticed how Mevis was hiding her right hand behind her back. He asked, "Are you hiding something?"

Mevis slipped the knife into her back pocket before revealing her hand. "No, nothing."

He stepped away. "Well, if you need anything, do tell me. Since you're injured and all, is it not challenging for you to be by yourself? What if something happens?"

"I can take care of myself," Mevis insisted, hand on the door.

"Okay..." The boss nodded. "Tell me if you see any suspicious characters, alright?"

Mevis considered telling him about the baker. However, she stopped herself after looking into the baker's eyes. She said, "Thank you, but I'll be fine."

She shut the door and the boss walked off.

Mevis let out a sigh and staggered to her bed once again. While she was relaxing, she heard a strange noise. It was like someone knocking on glass. But the noise felt distant. It was almost like the noise was imaginary. When she tried to focus on the noise, Mevis noticed that she could no longer hear it. Knocking... She felt like she heard it somewhere before.

Mevis clutched her head as she tried not to let her memories overwhelm her. She remembered vividly waking up one day in a lab with many others. Slowly, they would be taken away by the scientists there. Slowly, the people she knew left the room. One by one, until it was her turn.

She saw several others on the way to the testing room.

They were submerged in some sort of liquid, tortured and maimed. At the brink of passing out, the alarms had gone off. At that moment, she ran away. Her escape was coincidental, and she was lucky there was a technical breakdown at the lab.

"Oh my, a human soul in distress?" Came a voice.

Mevis looked up, pulling the knife out.

Floating above her, was a young boy. He had his head in front of her. He wore a dark brown outfit which closely resembled a Chinese Zombie. He wore a hat that had a slip of paper drop down his face. As he was hanging upside down, the slip of paper dropped towards the ground, revealing his face.

He had dark brown eyes and curly brown hair hidden inside the hat.

Mevis jumped back.

The boy laughed and did a roll. He levitated in the air, sitting crossed-legged and folding his arms. The slip of paper fell down, revealing five letters arranged vertically 'HELLO'. He had a smirk on his face as he introduced himself, "Hello human, I am Earth."

The five letters changed to 'EARTH'. Mevis pointed her knife at him. The boy hovered back slightly, telling her, "I'm not here to fight, trust me."

He stuck out a pinky. "Pinky promise!"

"Who are you?" Mevis demanded.

Considering the middle part of the boy's face was covered by the slip of paper, Mevis was unable to read his expression well. He tapped the piece of paper, telling her, "I already introduced myself though! This! This is my name!"

"Earth...?"

"Bingo!" He cheered.

He floated back slightly, telling Mevis, "Human! I'm sure you might be wondering, 'What is Earth doing in front of me right now?'! Well, I'm here to ask you one question."

Mevis reached for her bag slowly.

"Do you have a wish?" Earth asked her.

Mevis paused.

"A wish," Earth repeated. "Any type of wish! You can ask for infinite riches-"

He snapped and gold appeared momentarily before disappearing. He continued, "You can ask for anyone's death."

The boy had a large grin on his face. "You can even wish to live a completely different life."

"I'm not going to make a wish," Mevis stated, still pointing the knife at Earth.

Earth tilted upside down again, a hand in front of his face to keep the slip of paper on his face. "Really?"

He was staring directly into Mevis' eyes. "What about a carwash?"

"What?"

"Oh, what about a carwash?" Earth repeated, laughing lightly to himself. "Years ago, your parents' carwash ran out of business and your nice little life was ruined."

Mevis swiped the knife at him, but the knife bounced harmlessly off his skin. Earth floated out of range of the next swing as Mevis yelled, "How do you know that?"

"I see everything happening in this world," Earth stated.

He grabbed the knife, stopping Mevis' swing in midair.

"I can grant you a wish," Earth said. "Anything you want. I can restore your family's carwash. I can demolish that lab that your parents sold you to..."

He had a sinister grin on his face. "I can kill your parents."

Mevis let go of the knife and lunged for her bag, ignoring the pain from her previous injuries. The bag vanished and appeared in Earth's hand. He searched through it, asking, "I can make any type of wish, and I only have one request."

He lifted a tag with Mevis' name on it.

Mevis backed away slowly, the realisation of what she was dealing with finally dawning on her.

"Can I have this?" Earth requested.
