Chapter15:The proposal

Logan

I walked out of the hotel only to find three police cars with men positioned at different angles with their guns.

'Logan Adams, walk straight towards us while we check the building' one of them said

'What's going on here, do you guys know who I am' I asked

'Yes sir, your brother called us. Do not worry we will catch the kidnappers' another answered

I sighed in frustration, what is wrong with Renzo?.

'Logan, are you okay, where you hurt anywhere, who did this?' Renzo approached me, touching my face, my hands, my head.

'Get off me, I'm fine. Why did you call all these people, you think this is a movie?' I asked a little bit annoyed

'Go back to your duty, no one kidnapped me, I came here to see a friend' I told them officers

'Ok sir' they answered and all turned to leave

'Who told you I was kidnapped?' I asked my brother

He pointed towards his car

'Kevin?' I asked surprised

'I was just worried for you. You never leave without your driver, also you didn't act okay after that phone call before the presentation at the conference room' he said

'Go home, don't be late tomorrow' I told him

'What friend did you come to see at a hotel?' Ren asked me

'Ride with me' I told him instead

He got in my car with me and I started the engine, soon we were out of the hotel premises.

'Selena' I said

'What happened to her?' he asked me

'She is the friend I came to see earlier' I told Ren

'You are just pulling my legs right?, you are playing games with me' he asked, but I nodded in denial

'What the fvck, you came to see her. Why??' he became angry

'I wanted to see her' I told him

I narrated what transpired between Selena's brother and I, all the things he said and all the things he was planning to do.

'Why did you let him go?.You should have called me when you had him so I could punch him in the face' he cried.

'Selena's mother isn't dead like she told us, she's very much alive' I told Ren

'I don't want to hear about Selena's lies anymore, you didn't tell me anything about the date' he said to me

'Yeah right, turns out your supposed date didn't show up' I told him and I could a thousand questions written all over his face

'You didn't come so you sent me, she didn't come so she sent her bestfriend who happens to be a college student doing her fieldwork project in the company' I explained

Renzo nodded his head in astonishment

'Wow, that's a lot' he said

'Yeah'

'There is something though' I said and Ren was eager to hear

'We didn't start off well, and I have had it as a plan to deal with her. She irritates me, she's disrespectful. She has a sharp tongue but at the same time she's smart, she stands up for herself, I love her style you know, her choice of clothes, shoes, hairstyle and her aura' I ranted

'Excuse me, who are you talking about?' Ren asked me

'The bestfriend' I answered

'You like her' Ren said like it was a fact that couldn't be refuted

'No, I don't' I denied

'I tried humiliating her in several occasions during dinner but she always had a comeback' I smiled

'I would like to meet her' Ren said

'Well, we had a deal. You are working in the company for some weeks so you will be seeing her' I said and he frowned.

'We had a deal' I repeated

'Ok ok I know, stop sounding like a broken record' he said

'You can lie to everyone but I know you still love Selena and it scares the shit out of me that she's back' Renzo said with concern that I felt it

'Me too, I'm scared for myself' I said and he laughed

'I told her I had somebody new in my life' I confessed to my brother

'Why would you do that?, she will find her and make her miserable' he lectured me

'There's no one. But when I said that, I had just one person in mind' I told Ren

'Ugh, who could that unlucky person be?' he asked me

'The best friend who works in the company' I said

'You are so evil, leave the poor girl alone' he begged me

'I didn't do anything' I said faking an innocent face

'You have falling for a student' he laughed at me

'Stop saying that' I warned him

Just then I received a text from Selena and it read this;

'I still remain your lawfully wedded wife Logan. Have you forgotten our secrete wedding in Vegas, before the actual wedding?'. She attached a document and 2 photos to the text.

'Oh my God!' I exclaimed

'What happened?' Ren asked me

'I married the devil' I sighed

'What, when, who's the devil?' Ren asked

I explained everything to him, we had a secrete wedding in Vegas one week before the actual wedding.

It was something Selena had always wanted, but I wanted the public to know about us. In the end we agreed on having both, but she didn't show up for the ideal public wedding.

'What about, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?' he asked me

'Clearly not for Selena' I said

'So what do you plan to do about it?' Ren asked me

'She wants us back together, I don't want to have anything to do with her anymore, but I love her too much that I don't think I'll be able to resist her for too long' I lowered my pride and told Ren my fears

'What ever you decide, I'll support you. I was told to never get involved in a lovers' quarrel' he said

Mia

'Boss Logan wants to see you in his office' Kevin told me. I just arrived office that morning and I didn't even make it to my desk.

'Ok' I answered

I knocked on his door and heard him say I could come in.

'Sit down Mia' he gestured with his hand and I obeyed

'How is the preparation with the new product coming up?' He asked me and I suddenly became nervous

'I haven't started any work sir, I'm supposed to draw a plan today on how to go about it' I explained

'Oh! So you're starting work for it today?' He raised his head from his papers and asked

'Yes sir' I said unsure

'Good luck, don't disappoint me. You can leave' he said

'Thank you sir' I said and walked towards the door.

'Mia' I stopped in my tracks when he called my name

'Yes sir' I turned around

'I have a proposal for you, it's something personal' he said

'Ok, what is it?' I asked

'I need you to pretend to be my girlfriend for a period of time' he said

'What, why?' I asked him in astonishment

He scratched his head

'Well, Selena is back' he said

I rushed to sit across him with a smile on my face

'What's that face, why are you smiling?' He asked me, I adjusted my face, it was work hours I need to keep any familiarity aside

'So the lady who hurt you, abandoned you at the alter is back and you are acting so cool about it' I said

'I'm not acting cool about it' he said

'I need you to act as my girlfriend to keep her away from me' he added

'I'm so sorry for you. So in a nutshell, you can't control yourself around this Selena, you love her that much?' I asked

'It's more complicated than you think' he said

'No it's not complicated, you are just weak' I said

'Know your place, don't talk to me in that manner' he said

'I know my place, you are the one who keeps switching places' I said

He was quiet.

'I hate you' he said

'Because I tell you the truth and I can stand up to you' I said

'No you can't stand up to me, you are so proud. You know what this was a bad idea, leave my office' he said

'Make sure, you don't call me again' I said and got up to leave

'Wait, wait!, I need you to help me with this. You are the most suitable candidate for this and I'll pay you' he said

'Why am I the most suitable candidate and how much?' I asked

'I know you are strong enough to stand up to her' he said

'But not to you' I said

'How much?' I asked again

'Have a million for a month' he said

'Nope not good, you have so much more and you are just going to give me crumps' I was angry

'It's my money. You're just a student, what do you need so much money for?' He asked

'Don't underestimate my needs' I said

'1 million' he said

'2 million' I said

'2 million, you are insane' he said

'Then deal with her yourself' I said

'1.5' he said

'I insist on 2 million or you find someone else' I said

'Yes good, I'll find someone else' he said

I walked out of his office.
