Chapter 9: Lena's secret base

-

I just finished my last day of work. Camila and I were free on Saturday and Sunday so there was more time for research. After a bit of quick research, Dinah and Normani managed to find the secret location Lena was sending her supplies to. It happened to be the location in the middle of the forest. They had intercepted a message about a new delivery, which probably meant there'd be another possible break-in.Good thing we found it, because Dinah had found out Lena was transporting material from project Cadmus there too. Maybe that could be the key to find out what was wrong with me.

If there was anything significant we would research it first. Besides that we would go and plant explosives on the machinery and supplies, we had a long-distance remote we would set off once we were far enough.

There was no known path that led to the place. The entrance was well hidden, because we couldn't detect anything on satellite or maps. We'd have to walk through the forest for like half an hour before reaching it, if we'd even be able to find it.

The team had really worked on making sure everything went smoothly this time, even though we had such a short amount of time. We had a clear plan we would stick to.

We were planning to head in with a group of 4. More people would catch attention, and if we would get captured, no one would be able to help us out. That meant that 3 people would be left at the base, including Dinah.

As we were putting our gear and our jackets on I saw Camila doing something weird... She put a  banana in the inside pocket of her jacket. Was she planning to take a lunch-break while breaking in?

"What the actual fuck Camila.. why do you need a banana to go on a mission?" I asked raising an eyebrow. "It's not like you'll have time to eat it."

"It'll bring me luck" She smiled. "you'll see"

"Ehm... suuuuuure. Though I don't think a banana will help you with anything."

"You may not believe me now, but you'll thank me later!" Camila said.

I wasn't sure if I believed her though. Camila was one of the nicest girls on our team, but her obsession with bananas was so strange. Same with her humour, but I made the same horrible jokes so that didn't really matter.

"Yo is everyone ready? You can get in the van." Dinah yelled from upstairs.

I quickly ran to the kitchen to get a chocolate chip cookie before we left. It was one of those from Lena, but aside from it being a bit stale it stale tasted nice. I was always hungry. After stuffing it in my mouth I ran upstairs to join the others.

..

It was a one hour drive outside of the city, which was a lot more than we expected. Probably a miscalculation, since we only planned this in a few days.  Dinah was already doubling the speed limit and we were lucky there were barely any police patrols around here. That way we were there way faster and could still be on time for our plan, but it didn't look subtle enough in my opinion.

When we arrived, she parked somewhere hidden at the edge of the forest. We covered the van with a camouflage net and some branches. Above the van, a tiny automatic drone scanned the area. If people approached the van, there'd be a warning signal.

Dinah would stay in the van to follow us on her monitors, and make sure we weren't being led into a trap. We all had body cams and Dinah would try to break into the firewall to get access to the cameras inside. That way she could help us from the outside.

Together with Octavia, Camila and Normani I went inside the forest. We went in small groups of two,  Normani and Camila were walking ahead. There were about 50 meters between us. I was glad I had Octavia close, she was the most alert one out of all of us. If anyone was watching she'd know. Every now and then branches would break under our feet, which startled us from time to time. For the rest however, it was eerily quiet, there were no birds whistling.

We kept walking for what seemed like ages until Camila and Normani's scanners picked up on something. They signed a signal to us and waited for us to join them at the place where the signal was coming from. Our devices showed there was something underneath us.

Normani brushed the leaves away and a a piece of metal became visible. After we all brushed away more dirt, it turned out to be an entrance. Well... it said 'fire exit'. but as a spy that's basically the same thing as an entrance.

Octavia went down first to see if the coast was clear. As she reached the bottom she signaled the next one to go. That was me. During the preparation the girls had decided I had to stay in the middle, since it was me Lena was after. However this mission couldn't be done without me, since   I was the only one who could point out what Lillian Luthor had used on me.

We basically ended up in a more abandoned part of the building. There was nothing there. No boxes, no equipment. Only empty rooms. Not much later Dinah spoke in our earpiece.

"Be careful. I'm not able to hack into the surveillance system so you'll have to watch your steps and make sure you're unrecognizable. I won't be able to follow you that way. Only on the body cams. If I can't even hack into the system, I'm worried that this place will be heavily secured." Dinah spoke.

That's strange. This is the first time it didn't work. Dinah had been able to hack in to some of the most complex systems, yet not this one?

As we continued down the hallway, we reached a bigger space with a large gate. That must've been the one that leads outside the forest. It's must be extremely well hidden because from the outside we couldn't see any of it.

Octavia turned around and quickly pushed me down.Suddenly the gates had opened. All of us hid behind a big metal plated railing. A giant armoured truck passed by us, without anything on it. I was really curious about what was inside. The driver was unrecognisable since the windows seemed to be tinted.

Dinah spoke. "that's one of the only things I can seem to retrieve out of the system."

"

We did what Dinah said and took the small hallway. We had to be really sneaky because there were guards patrolling it. I always had the mission impossible theme song in my head when we did stuff like this.

We all looked around the corner until it was safe, but Octavia didn't wait. She just ran and knocked all of them out in a few seconds. Damn, I forgot how good of a fighter she was...

We dumped all the unconscious guards inside one room. There we used pieces of cloth to silence them and rope to tie them together. We couldn't risk one waking up and pushing the alarm button.

As we opened the door it revealed an older warehouse. The strange thing was that it was nearly empty. In the middle of the whole space, the vehicle from before was parked, but it was the only thing here, except for some empty pallets and a few boxes. The driver just left the car and opened the trunk before disappearing into a door on the other side of the space.

We all took the stairs down and slowly approached the truck. We were very careful, checking around us as we got closer.

"I'll take a look inside. You guys watch my back. I've got an uneasy feeling."

I used Dinah's gadget to unlock the back of the truck, and climbed inside.

Looking inside the back of the vehicle gave me instant flashbacks. Inside were devices they had in the lab during project Cadmus. I had to keep myself together, but my hands were shaking a little.

"Maybe we should take a look and see what else is in there" Camila spoke.

I went further into the truck. Lots of materials were stacked inside, ranging from chemicals to machinery. I put some of the stuff in my bag, and tried to take as much as possible. All the way in the back, a red letter was carefully placed on one of the cardboard boxes. Strange. the back wasn't sealed, so I pulled out the little paper inside.

"Hello there Cadmus girl :)." It said.

"FUCK!" I said quickly jumping out of the truck. "IT'S A TRAP, IT'S A FUCKING TRAP! RUN TO THE GATE!"

We tried running towards the tunnel but the gate closed right in front of us. As I turned around I stood face to face with an armored guard. His suit looked exactly like the ones they had at Cadmus.

I tried to punch his face, but he grabbed my arm and twisted it, quickly throwing me onto the ground. There he pushed my head down to the cold floor. His knee was pushing down on my back. That's when Octavia kicked him off of me and thanks to her strenght he fell a few meters further.

I got up and ran towards another guard kicking him in his stomach which made him fall backward.

That's when a flash of blue and red forcefully pulled me away. Someone held me up against them. The other girls were still struggling with the guards so I had to fight on my own.

I tried to elbow the person behind me but they didn't budge.

"Don't even try it won't work. You'll only hurt yourself." They said. To my surprise, it was a very familiar voice... Kara... but the blue and red... supergirl? Kara is supergirl?

"Stop fighting... we don't want to hurt you"

I panicked and tried to find a way out as I heard footsteps come closer. When I looked up I knew we had fucked up.

To my horror, Lena stood right there. She herself wore a special suit, that probably gave her extra strength too. I tried my best to turn away, but Kara held me in place. Suddenly, Lena was right in frond of me. She reached up and placed her hands on the mask I had on. Fuck, this was it.

I tried kicking and pulling myself free from Kara's grip, but it didn't work, the other girls were too busy fighting to see what was happening.

Slowly Lena pulled off the mask. Once it was off the corners of her mouth curled up.

"Hi there, y/n." She smirked.
