The days Kevin Evans felt narcissistic were absolutely not countable. Being a person who was rather proud of himself, he always felt he was above all people. And let him not get started on his cunningness.
He was a shrewd businessman who did not care about ethics or morale while doing business. He was a boy who belonged to an average family but was able to live a desirable life.
And, of course, he was that kind of person who, if he wanted to obtain something, could succumb to any method to get it. So, how could he let go of Aman, whom he could not obtain yet?
Moreover, if it were only a matter of getting Aman, he might have tried to persuade him further with gifts or some sweet stuff, but this person not only rejected him but even humiliated him by beating him. He still remembers the disgust in Mei Wang's eyes when he told him that a young teenager hit him, even ignoring the fact that it was his own ungrateful son who disgusted both of them by being crippled. He got beaten just because he touched a little here and there. It was all the fault of the damn little seductive servant!
Thus, he decided to get back on both of these fools. And he had already decided to target that servant boy. He had already decided that he would teach this good-for-nothing boy a great lesson.
He rejected his advances. So now, not only would he have his way with him forcefully, he would even end his worthless life. Only the fear of death in that boy's eyes could put out the fire of embarrassment inside him.
What's more, the boy would be completely used by him by the end of the ordeal. And he does not like it if people even use the things he uses, so it's better to just dispose of the boy.
As for that Mei Wei who hit him, he did not have to do so much and dirty his hands more than necessary. He knew Mei Wei was head over heels in love with Aman, and if something happened to him, he would be devastated beyond repair. He definitely would not want to fight against them in court.
After that, he would send someone to break his legs again and persuade Mei Wang to throw him outside of the Mei Mansion.
Although the number of days where Kevin felt himself more cunning and clever than ordinary people was not countable, while thinking about today's plan, he could not help but praise himself.
After all, no one would suspect that the person whom they thought would not appear in front of them stood there smiling. And those fools would never know that this wolf was hiding under a sheepskin.
That was why, when he found Aman and Mei Wei snow fighting, he observed them closely. He found that the dumb boy whose name was Justice or Jack or something like that was also playing with them.
Of course, birds of a feather flock together. This Justice guy also thinks the world is full of good people; that's why he decided to ask for help from a complete stranger. What if he was related to the human trafficking mafia?
Nevertheless, he started to proceed with his plan when he walked towards Aman. The boy's back was towards him, and he had to admit that this back was also attractive.
He deliberately acted like something was under his feet. Due to this, he stumbled, and his glasses fell off of his eyes. When he balanced himself, he found that Aman was already crouching and had picked up his glasses.
He handed the glasses to Kevin and asked with a little worry, "Are you alright, Mister?"
He did not wear the glasses but looked at the boy in front of him. He said in a surprised and joyful tone, which was also filled with a little shock, "Thank God! You are fine. Your husband must be accompanying you. Where is Roger?"
Hearing this, the boy's face went blank for a moment. He frowned and looked at Kevin closely. After that, he did not know why, but he felt the air around the boy changing.
But a confused look was still on his face, so Kevin thought it was just his hallucination.
He asked the boy again, in an almost complaining manner, "Hey! Why are you standing here, looking at me like this? After your accident, have you even forgotten your father-in-law?"
Hearing their confrontation, Mei Wei and Justin also walked over to them.
However, Aman replied in his soft and calm voice, "Uncle, I don't know you. I think you have taken me as someone else." He tried to reason with Kevin, but Kevin could not be reasonable here.
Kevin increased his volume. "How can you not know me? Is it some kind of prank?"
His voice also contained helplessness. Anyone who would look at him would feel sympathy for an old, helpless man.
Aman's face was also worried. It felt like he was also sympathising with Kevin, as he had already guessed the general point of their conversation.
Looking at the worried look, Kevin thought, 'Good for me. It means that even this boy can't look through my disguise. My plan will definitely be successful.' He cheered inside his heart but maintained his expression outside.
However, he was not the only one who was affected by Aman's worried look. Mei Wei was also affected. He interlaced his fingers with Aman's in order to comfort him.
Seeing this, Kevin sneered in his heart. Suddenly, the young boy standing beside them spoke, "Uncle, what are you doing here?" The boy's voice was full of surprise.
Kevin again tried to act like an old man. He turned in the direction from where the voice came, then looked at the Justice boy closely. Then he made a sound of acknowledgment and smiled kindly, "Ah! How are you, Mr.?"
"Justin Timberlake, uncle," Justin replied.
Kevin waved a hand and said, "Of course, Justin. Forgive me; I tend to forget people's names due to old age."
Although Kevin did not forget Justin's name due to his old age, he did not find him significant enough to remember his name.
Justin smiled and nodded, but Mei Wei's voice was not kind enough but a little harsh: "Justin, do you know him?"
At this, Justin nodded. "Then, ask him why he is claiming my Aman as his son-in-law." Of course Mei Wei would feel bad; he already knew it.
Despite his harshness, he still spoke to Mei Wei kindly: "With all due respect, do not interfere in my family matters, young man."
He again turned towards Aman and said, "Steven, why are you not recognising me? Have you lost your memory?"
"Okay, if you don't remember me, it is alright. But you must remember Roger, right? Both of you love each other to death."
He looked at Mei Wei, and sure enough, the other was fuming with rage. He laughed inside. Aman again tried to convince him, "I really think you have misunderstood, Mister. My name is not Steven. I am Aman, Aman Vasuki. And I neither know you nor any Roger."
He opened his mouth but could not speak clearly. "But—but how could that be? You are Steven. The husband of my son, Roger. You! You must be kidding, right?"
However, at this time, Mei Wei interjected with a more harsh and a little rude tone, "With all respect, mister, I am telling you this last time, this is not your Steven, but my Aman. Please leave us alone; otherwise, I will call security now."
Kevin took a stumble and stepped back. Justin also said, "Uncle, I also think you are misunderstanding. Look clearly."
For a moment, he stopped speaking, and then he said excitedly, "Uncle, if I remember correctly, you wear glasses, right? Where are they? Wear them, and then take a look."
Kevin still held the glasses in his hand. He wiped them clean with the hem of his scarf and put them on. After that, he looked at his surroundings.
Justin Boy was looking at him expectantly, like asking him, 'Did that work?'
Mei Wei had his arms folded in front of him. Even through his winter clothing, Kevin could see the bulging biceps, which were frightening.
Then, he adjusted his glasses and looked at Aman closely. He moved so much closer that Aman could feel his warm breath, but suddenly Mei Wei's hand interjected and pushed him back with a small force. He wore a sour expression of distaste.
Of course, Kevin did not need to verify this; he already knew Aman was not Steven, but getting closer to him and sniffing that sweet scent was his real motive. He did not even care about his disguise. This scent was almost addicting.
His previous expression of happiness fell and was replaced with sorrow, guilt, and hopelessness. He said, "Indeed, you are not Steven. But I wish you were Steven. At least I could ask for his forgiveness, and I might have met my own son."
By the end of this, his voice started cracking, he started taking deeper breaths, and it felt like he was crying.
Seeing this, the other three frowned. Justin wound up an arm around him and took him to the nearest bench. The bench was wide enough to accommodate all four of them.
Justin asked in a concerned tone, "Uncle, please tell us what happened. Don't be sad."
He tried to compose himself and said, "I know I should not put my personal worries on you. But I think I owe you an explanation. After all, I destroyed your harmony because of my misunderstanding."
Mei Wei slowly nodded, as if agreeing. Aman was still silent, like he was still thinking something. Mei Wei grabbed his hand in order to assure him.
Kevin started narrating his story: "My name is Victor Murray. My wife passed away a few years ago." All three of them looked down as if giving their condolences silently.
But he continued, "I have only one son, Roger. He loves his husband, Steven, very much. Sometimes I feel more than me." At this, he opened his camera roll on his mobile phone and opened a photo of a young man. It was a side-profile photo. And now all of them understood why he was misunderstanding. The person in the photo matched Aman by 60–70%! Even Mei Wei was dumbfounded.
"I even complained to him playfully many times. But I swear, I was only kidding!" He showed a panicked look as he told them after that.
"Why? What happened, uncle?" This time, it was Aman who asked.
Kevin sighed and explained further, "A month ago, when both of them visited me, my son was not at home, and Steven had to go to the market, but he did not know how to drive. So I offered to drive him."
"But misfortune befell upon us. Our car met with an accident. Miraculously, I did not get much injured, but that could not be said for Steven. He suffered a great injury and went into a coma. Roger is extremely devastated because of this."
He then opened a new photo where a man in a patient's gown was lying on the bed, unconscious. A white gauze was wrapped around his head.
"Roger sent me this photo. He said that I was always jealous of my own son-in-law; that's why I deliberately crashed our car. That was why I was unscathed, but Steven was not waking up. He told me that he was going to break all his relations with me and would never see me."
"This is the hotel where our family comes every year for vacation. I have not seen my son and son-in-law for more than a month. That's why I came here to look for them. I thought maybe I could find them and ask for their forgiveness."
"But when I found your friend standing there, I thought it was Steven. I am so sorry."
By this point, the old man was already shedding crocodile tears.
