Chapter 30: Becoming an Apprentice Skinner!!

"So this is my shop, it has everything you need in order to help you skin beasts!" Maryra exclaimed.

"Wow it literally does! What is the room with the red on the floor?" I then asked her.

"That is the room where we skin the beast. Now if you want to go back there, I have to ask if you have a strong stomach." She then said.

"I do." Arialle said.

"I'm not sure honestly, I've only killed slimes so far." I mentioned to her.

"Hmm. . . Normally I wouldn't allow you near there, but Sheppard said you were really good at leatherworking. So I'm going to give you a shot, the moment I think you are going to get sick you will be out of my store. Got it?" She asked me.

"Got it!" I said.

She then took us to the back room, where there were dead beast hung up on cabled hooks. The beasts looked freshly killed actually.

"So what do you think?" She then asked me.

"This is awesome!" I said to her!

"Wow, he wasn't joking about you. . ." She said it quietly enough to where we couldn't hear her.

{{Hey bud. She just said, wow, he wasn't joking about you.}} Orion then told me.

I raised an eyebrow at Orion briefly, then turned back towards Maryra.

"Uh. . . Question. What did you mean by he wasn't joking about you?" I then asked her.

Her eyes got really wide after I said that.

"How did you know I said that??" She asked me very quickly.

"Uh. . . Orion, has sharp ears. So he can hear anything that is said quietly near him. Even if it is a very quiet whisper." I told her.

She then looked at Orion, then me.

"Wow. . . Is that other one yours also? The one who is smelling the dead carcass of that wolf." She then asked me.

"Uh. . ." I looked over at Onyx.

'Onyx, get away from that. It isn't there for you to eat it.'

{{Oh, I'm sorry. I was honestly just smelling it!}} Onyx said after coming back over to me, and sitting down.

"Yeah he is, sorry about that. He said that he was just smelling the wolf carcass." I told her.

"Oh wow, two companions! Anyways, that is totally fine, as long as they don't try to eat anything." She then told me.

'Alright, you guys heard her. You can smell around, just don't eat anything, or destroy anything! Got it?'

{{Got it!}} They both said.

After that they both got up, and went sniffing around the entire place.

"They really wanted to smell everything, because one was just born yesterday, and the other has only fought slimes. So they are gathering their scents for later." I told her.

". . . I'm not going to ask about the being born yesterday part. I'll leave it as a mystery. Now that they are not being watched over by the two of you. Would you both like to learn Skinning?" She then asked both of us.

"I would like to, but I'm not sure about Arialle." I told her.

"Hmm. . . I've already got one profession, but it wouldn't hurt to have a money maker. So yeah I will also learn." She then told her.

"Very well! It will cost you each 20 Silver, this will help you learn the Apprenticeship Skinning." She said to us.

I went ahead, and handed her 40 Silver to pay for both of us.

"Hey I could of paid for myself!" Arialle exclaimed.

"Sorry, but I figured I had to contribute somewhere since you won't let me pay for a room out of your house." I told her.

"That is because we are a party, why would I charge you to stay in my house?" Arialle commented back to me.

"I don't know. . . It is already paid for. If need be buy me something later day." I told her.

"Fine. . ." Araille started to pout.

"Hahaha. . . You two. Alright, stop the love bickering, and let's get started." Maryra commented to us.

"We are not love bickering!" Arialle then exclaimed with blushing cheeks.

"Sure hunny, anyways. What do you guys know about skinning?" She then asked us.

"I know absolutely nothing." I told her.

"Same here." Arialle commented.

"Alright, that makes it a little easier on me. It will take longer, but I can explain everything in detail. Now do you two see the wolf carcass there that Onyx was sniffing earlier?" She then asked.

"Yeah." We both said.

"Alright, I want you to pull that over here to the middle of the room Arthrall. Arialle, I want you to go, and grab some leather overshirts over in the corner there." She told us.

I went, and grabbed the wolf carcass. While Arialle went to the corner, and grabbed 3 overshirts.

"Now put them overshirts on, and then go to the counter there. Grab 3 Skinning Knives." She then said.

I went, and grabbed the skinning knives after I put on the overshirt. I turned back around, and Arialle already had hers on, while Maryra also had hers on.

"Now, what you want to do is cut the throat of the wolf, and let the blood drain. Now it is already done on this one, due to it coming in here about an hour ago. You then want to take your skinning knife, and cut the neck all the way around the neck. After that, you want to keep cutting into the meat until you reach the neckbone. Once you reach the neckbone, I want you to take a cleaver, and cut the neck off." She told us.

"Oh right, the cleaver is over there where you grabbed the skinning knives." She told me.

I went over to where the skinning knives were, and found the cleaver. After grabbing it, I went to the head of the wolf, and chopped its head off the rest of the way. Now it was a headless wolf carcass.

"Good, now leave the head there for now. Arialle, I want you to take, and cut up towards the penis of the wolf. Don't cut the penis itself, cut until you are about 2 inches away from it. Then create a slim V, and go around the penis and balls. Then continue the cut around the base of the tale, and connect it to the other side of the V." She told Arialle.

Arialle then did what she was told. She cut upwards until she reached the penis, then she made a small V, and continued around the tail to connect to the otherside.

"Wow you both are really good at this!" She commented.

"Thanks!" We both said.

"Now take your skinning knife, and start cutting the fat in between the skin and the meat. Each take one side." She told us.

I started near the penis area, while Arialle started near the neck area. It took us about 30 minutes to cut the fat off the skin in order to free it from the wolf. After we finished, Maryra moved the wolf carcass towards the wall.

"Now let us head back out to the main room." She said to us.

She then led us to barrel with a liquid inside of it. It already had a beast skin inside of it.

"Arthrall, go over there, and grab the elbow gloves off the wall there." She told me.

I went over to the wall, and grabbed the gloves. I then walked back over to her.

"Now, I want you to put them gloves on, and take that skin out. After Arthrall removes the skin, I want you to put the wolf's skin inside of it." After that I pulled the skin out of the barrel, and then Arialle put the wolf's skin inside of it.

"That barrel contains a compound us skinners use to get rid of the hair of the beast. Now there are beasts that have scales, but that is something to learn a different day. Same goes for the compound. Now, Arthrall take that pelt over to the drying rack behind you." She told us.

I went, and put the skin on the dying rack. There were other skins on the drying racks, but I didn't pay too much attention to them.

"You guys now know how to skin a beast! You both are now Apprentice Skinners!" She exclaimed to us.
