Green Eyes

Suddenly, Paul appeared from behind and grabbed him unexpectedly by the shoulders causing Alex to turn his attention away from the ground.

"Hey Alex, what are you doing here? Let's go to the canteen. I'm feeling quite hungry and I bet you are too if I'm not wrong".

Alex nodded in agreement and followed Paul into the canteen. A long queue had already formed which meant that they wouldn't be served till much later. After standing there for some time the queue began to dwindle. As they stood there, Alex noticed the same girl from the lecture hall walking towards a table holding several plates of fast food items. His attention was drawn to her slender hands with immaculate long nails. However, she was not alone but was with another girl called Blake. Blake had the strangest green hair which was short at the front but long and curly towards the back. She had big, dark bluish eyes with pierced eyebrows which had been darkened. He noticed how she tucked her hair behind her ear from time to time and that she appeared to be quite shy and modest.

Alex saw that they were coming towards them and the blonde girl, who he had found out was called Alexandra, came over to Alex and gave him two slices of pizza, two burgers and two cold drinks. Somewhat puzzled, he accepted the food and shared it with Paul. Alexandra explained that she wanted to buy the food for them as an apology for the embarrassment she had caused for Alex. She said she was sorry.

She grabbed Blake by the hand and they both left. Alex asked Paul if he knew who she was. Paul grinned saying, "she is the girl I follow". Then he winked as he took a mouthful of pizza and, seeing the look on Alex's face, said "only kidding, how would I know who she is?" Then they both burst out laughing.

The following day, while going to the college with Paul, Alex found Blake and Alexandra having coffee and snacks in a café. Dressed respectively in blue and black dresses, they looked bright and cheerful.

Alex wasn't in the habit of being so confident around girls and certainly didn't flirt. Paul, however, had other ideas. He kept staring at Alexandra to get her attention when suddenly Barry appeared behind them. With both hands on one of Paul's shoulders he said, "I've seen you watching her. Who is she?" Barry tightened his powerful grip as Paul replied smiling rather foolishly, "we don't know who she is Barry. Really we don't. You know it's only our second day here so how are we supposed to know who anyone is".

Barry loosened his grip and took his hands off Paul's shoulder. He looked a bit emotional as he replied, "Yes, you're probably right but that girl with the golden hair reminds me of someone. Anyway, enjoy your day mate". And then he left. A few minutes later, a man who looked like he was in his early twenties, came running from behind them. He bumped into Paul as he ran past him.

"Hey man! Look where you're going," shouted Paul. As they watched him they saw that he had snatched Blake's bag and carried on running.

"Whoa….Alex, did you see that? said Paul. Blake was completely surprised by what had just happened and screamed out to the man, "Hey, you thief!" and then covered her mouth with both hands in despair. Silence followed and you could hear a pin drop. Both Alex and Paul were a bit shocked at seeing Blake shout so loudly. She had seemed so quiet and demure.

"Hey Paul, let's go", said Alex as he pulled Paul and started running towards the man. They ran and ran and eventually cornered him in a nearby street. He was just a stone's throw away from them. He stopped and before they could do anything, he had knocked them both to the ground. The bag had slipped out of his hand and Alex picked it up. During the attack, Alex's ID had fallen out of his pocket and the robber stooped down to pick it up. He thought twice about going for the bag again.
