Chapter Thirty Nine

"Nedra-" Kasuyi tried to speak, but was interrupted by the slight flare of magical energy around him, courtesy of Nedra. He pressed his lips together, the former airs he put on in front of others completely gone.

"Kasuyi... I'm not happy with you at all. What happened to you? You just disappeared, leaving the rest of us behind; next thing we hear is that you are fighting a battle of life and death, but before we can get there, you're already dead." Nedra's sharp, red eyes clashed with Kasuyi's, her red hair splayed over he shoulders.

"It was necessary, Nedra. In order to reach the realm of Gods, one has to shed all their humanity. I couldn't cling to too many things."

A vein popped up on Nedra's forehead when she heard Kasuyi's words.

"Oh, so our relationship was one of the things you chose to let go of? Do I mean that little to you?" A flame was lit up within her, blazing hotter with each passing moment.

"You misunderstand, Nedra, and I am not willing to delve too deeply into this matter. I have important matters to attend to. I only contacted you because I wanted you to know I was alive." Kasuyi stood up from his seat, "Now, please, if you will excuse me, I have an Abbey to revive."

As he turned to leave, the density of magical energy present in the room suddenly shot up, forcing constraints on his soul. Kasuyi frowned as he noticed the suppression, his mind working fast.

In the library full of once flying books, and vibrant colors, two opposing forces clashed, with one side significantly smaller. A wave if bright red magical energy wrapped itself around a bubble of bright purple energy. The red did all it could to smash the bubble of purple, but it was getting evident that it could do nothing.

"Stop being temperamental, Nedra. You will ruin my library." Kasuyi spoke calmly.

"You win this time, Kasuyi, but just know, this isn't over." Nedra clicked her tongue before vanishing with her red magical energy. The atmosphere in the library immediately lightened up, having taken a nosedive during the mental battle.

"Tck, women. Temperamental thing." Kasuyi clicked his tongue as he re-casted the floating spell that controlled the books. The scattered books and scrolls immediately lifted off the ground, flying high up and slotting themselves into their positions in the shelves. Only a few that Kasuyi had personally selected remained.

A few moments passed before the doors to the library burst open. Armed and vigilant Lord Class experts, along with a Pseudo-King Class expert stepped into the library, looking for the cause of that oppressive aura they had felt.

"Lord Kasuyi!" They bowed from the waist when they say Kasuyi. "We felt an unusual suppression from this room, are you alright?" The Pseudo-King Class expert took the lead and spoke. Kasuyi examined them for a moment before replying,

"It's fine. You will probably feel that presence a few more times, as it has to do with me, but please, do not let your guard down at all."

"Yes, Lord Kasuyi!"They bowed deeply, before turning around and leaving the room, none of them left, and instead remained outside the library door. Kasuyi himself just sighed, rubbing his head before going back to his sorting through various spell books.

When all this happened, Kai was on another floor of the massive castle, his lackluster, and untrained magical sensitivity not letting him sense what the others did. The young mage walked through the corridors at a steady pace, his mind drifting afar.

'So, Kasuyi is my ancestor?' The thought flitted through his mind, waking him up from his daze. He stopped by one of the large, open windows that let air and light filter into the castle, leaning on the ledge and inhaling a deep breath.

"Tough day?" A voice suddenly spoke up beside him. Kai jerked, raising his head to identify the person. The man stood, silently watching the younger Mage for a few moments before speaking up, "Perhaps you need to go on a walk around the city to get what you have troubling you off your mind."

Kai examined the person as he spoke. Long black hair was tied behind his head neatly, with a few loose strands lingering over his face. He had a pair of dark brown eyes, and soft features that made him look approachable.

"I don't think so." Kai turned down the offer.

"Bark!" A light yip came from beside them. The black pup that had been trailing after Kai ever since he stepped his foot into the castle was there, looking up at him. Letting out a big sigh, Kai spoke up again,

"Perhaps I'll take you up on your offer."
