"Now that you are my master, it's time to pass it to you. As long as you use it, most of the reptile spirits will not dare to come near you."
"Is it so amazing?" Wynne held the whistle to her mouth and blew it. A sharp but strange sound came out of it.
"Tomorrow, you will solve it by yourself in Dagy house. If you blow the whistle, the reptiles over there will surrender naturally."
"What about you?" Wynne asked.
Dooley disdained to smile: "It is a witch's duty to collect and release the spirits of reptile, why do you ask a spirit?"
"Well, ok" Wynne replied and shrugged. Wynne still didn't understand a little why George's grandma told that Dooley was a bad spirit, but he wasn't malicious to others so far, and even helping people, except liking sex with her.
So Wynne asked the question she had been thinking about.
"Why did you choose me to be your witch?"
Her grandmother said that Dooley had took a fancy to her, so she put it in her.
Dooley suddenly turned to her a pair of grim eyes, his eyes in the warm light, reflecting a strange green light. "Do you really want to know?"
"Of course." Wynne answered him with a curious baby's face.
"Because you are a city girl, and there are a lot of people in the city, and if you die, I can quickly find another one." His half-smile made Wynne froze.
"Go out, I want to rest." With that, he closed his eyes and sank into the water. As Wynne stepped out, a huge black snake tail, the size of a bucket, bubbled out of the tub and hit the floor, its hard scales making a dull, crisp noise as they made contact with the ground.
She was afraid that Dooley would turn into a snake, which always made her feel uneasy. When Wynne went to the bed, she subconsciously held the bell George's grandma gave her, and was not knowing when she would meet the cat spirit.
Dagy Pua's home was in a preindustrial small village. He with his wife picked Wynne up when she was near the entrance to the village.
Just like Dagy, his wife too, was much tanned famer. She kept weeping with two swollen eyes until they saw Wynne. It seemed that the illness for their child should be very bad. Their house was a normal and old two-story building, not painted, the outer walls of the red brick exposed to the sun, radiating the hot air.
But when Wynne walked into the house, she found it was unusually cool inside, and even felt freezing for a while.
"My son is lying on the bed in his room." Dagy Pua said, leading Wynne to a darkened room, where he flipped a grime-covered switch on the wall and turned on the light in the room.
Dim light shone the room, the whole room was very wet, and the ground was wet too. There was only a wardrobe, a bed inside.
The quilt puffed out on the bed, and the puffed out lump was trembling. It seemed that his son was inside.
"Go and pull the covers off. The spirit of reptile in there." A voice of Dooley who was in her abdomen rang in her ears.
Wynne took out the whistle, looking at the quilt lump that constantly shaking, carefully walked towards the bed, full of courage, pulling the wet quilt off! A strong stench came at her, she looked down, was greeted with the scene scared her out of her skin.
Lying on the bed it was not a little boy at all, but a giant red stinky worm with a human head! Its body was reddish-brown beneath its head, and its skin was ruffled like a silkworm.
Wynne was frozen by this strange creature, who turned to her with a face of extreme contortion when it found that she had lifted the quilt. A pair of eyes the size of mung beans, squeezed by the folds, stared at her maliciously.
It wriggled its round mouth full of sharp teeth, and white foam poured out. Wheezed warnings came from the child's throat, as if it would crush her and kill her if she tried to touch it!
When the mother saw her son like this, she began to weep again.
"My baby just went for a swim in the river a few days ago, came back like this!"
Dagy supported his wife with his hands, implored at Wynne, and said, "Miss Morr, please, if you save my son, I am willing to give you all my life savings!"
Now it's not a matter of whether Wynne wanted to save, but whether she could.
This child was badly possessed and even lost his humanity. How could she cure?
