Chapter 290 - Trust and betrayal

The transport vehicle hummed along the darkened streets, carrying Kai, Eric's containment unit, and the agents towards an uncertain destination. Kai's mind raced with thoughts of what lay ahead, the words of his superior echoing in his mind: "Trust me." He wasn't sure he could, but for Eric's sake, he had to try.

The vehicle came to a halt in front of an unassuming warehouse on the outskirts of the city. The agents disembarked, their movements brisk and efficient as they unloaded Eric's containment unit. Kai followed closely, his heart pounding in his chest.

Inside, the warehouse was stark and empty, its vast space illuminated by harsh fluorescent lights. The woman led them to a secluded corner where a makeshift command center had been set up. Computers and monitoring equipment lined the walls, their screens flickering with data.

"We're safe here for now," she said, addressing the team. "Begin the extraction process."
