Catherine woke to a prickling on her skin, and reflexively slapped at the grass swaying on her arm in a passing breeze. How much time had passed? She stood on wobbly legs and stared blankly at the Irish fields and forests. The distant rolling hills seemed to smile at her. No thoughts ran through her tired, fuzzy mind. She scarcely noticed the wind knocking at her battered clothing. Her headscarf fell out of her pocket before it was swiftly swept up by the breeze and blew gently to her feet, and she looked at it curiously. She couldn’t seem to move her thoughts past what was happening around her. There was a deep, burrowing feeling in the pit of her stomach and an unbearable ache in her heart. Something was evading her, or she was evading it. Whatever it was, she needed to get it out.
