I closed the door on the red head and returned to Malixs side. His disapproving look told me all I needed to know of what he thought of my plan.
"Raine-"
"Oh come on Malix you know as well as I do the best way to learn is on the job."
He shook his head frowning.
"Vericus is not going to like this and what about Slo she's his mate. There's no way he's going to let her go."
I shrugged sitting on the bed.
"If she's really serious about me trianing her then she'll find a way to convince him. As for Vericus he'll just have to deal."
"And what if something happens to her? What then? Are you willing to risk them turning on you just to honour her request?"
"Do you doubt my skills?"
He growled at me.
"Of course I don't but you know just as well as I do that anything could happen no matter how skilled you are."
"Malix relax it's going to be fine it's not like Driak will be there it'll be easy."
"See i wish you hadn't said that whenever someone says that something always goes wrong."
I laughed at him.
"Don't be so superstitious. If anything her shifts might actually come in handy for a job like this."
He grabbed my hand a serious look in his face.
"Just tell me why? Is it because you owe her for what you did or is this just your way of testing whether their serious about trusting you?"
I scowled at him getting off the bed.
"Not everything I do has an ulterior motive Malix. Ever think I just want to help someone?"
He sighed. I knew that he could very well be right on both counts but I wasn't about to admit that.
"Look whatever the reason you better go tell Vericus before he hears it from someone else."
"Hears what?"
The door swung open as Vericus and Owen walked in. Vericus's eyes were on me waiting for an answer.
"Just that A third has been added to the mission."
He raised his eyebrows at me.
"And who would be the third?"
I braced myself for what was coming.
"Cora."
He growled at me.
"Over my dead body she is! Why the hell would you even think that was a good idea?!"
"Told you."
I scowled at Malix then turned back to Vericus.
"She asked me to train her I can't very well train her if I'm on a mission so I figured she can train on the job."
His eyes glowed in anger.
"Of all the hair brained ideas you've come up with! She never been on a real mission and you want her fist one to be this? Are you insane?! Train her? Fine train her but you can do it when you get back."
I growled at him.
"If I'm going to train her I'll train her my way. You can't keep her locked up in your tower for the rest of her life Like some caged bird. The best way to learn how to survive is by doing. Real life experiences are what makes a fighter. You think I stayed at home throwing knives at targets, sparring in a ring? No! I was out there from the very start taught to survive from the moment I was born. I learnt by fighting to surviving the worse. If she wants me to train her then she'll have to learn to do the same."
"Fighting to survive?! You were trained by a maniac, who didn't give two shits whether you lived or died. You really think I want her going through what you did?!"
It was my turn to get angry.
"Are you seriously comparing this mission to what I went through? Do you really think I would ever wish that horror on another person?! Driak may have been a psycho that put me through hell but I survived. If Cora wants to learn how to survive who better to teach her then someone who fought tooth and claw to be standing here right now!"
"Alright you two simmer down."
Owens stepped between us facing me first.
"Raine if you've excepted her as your student then it your choice how you train her but she is still a member of the red eye pack. If you were planning on taking her the least you could have done is talked to us about it first."
Turning he faced Vericus.
"Ver Cora's not a little girl any more. If she feels this is something she needs to do we should respect her decision. You may not like it but Raine is more then capable of keeping Cora safe. You can at least agree on that can't you?"
Vericus's eyes meet mine the glow in them dying down. He wasn't completely calmed but eventually he sighed.
"Fine but if she gets hurt I'm holding you accountable."
His finger pointed my way before he turned to leave.
"I'm going to let Slo know."
Owen still had his back to me when Ver closed the door. He pinched the bridge of his nose letting out a large breath before turning back around.
"You really like to shake things up don't you?"
I groaned here we go another lecture.
"It's not like I plan these things Cora came to me i didn't encourage it."
"No you just started a fight in the middle of breakfast to show off which made a sixteen year old admire your skills."
I growled at him.
"I wasn't showing off. I was testing him."
"Raine couldn't you have found a more subtle way of testing him? Not everything has to be so dramatic."
"Dramatic?! I'm not dramatic I'm just not like the rest of you. If I have something to say I say it. In the lunar pack if you wanted something you had to take it. They might not have been my actual pack but that's the only pack I've ever known. How was I supposed to know Vericus would be so uptight about it."
A small chuckle sounded behind me. Turning I raised a questioning eyebrow at Malix. He smiled at us like he knew something we didn't.
"What's so funny?"
Malix glanced between us his smile widening.
"Oh nothing it's just I see it now."
I crossed my arms annoyed.
"What are you talking about?"
"You two. Your both so alike it not hard to tell your related. Your definitely silver moon wolf through and through just like Owen said this morning."
My eyes met Owens my cheeks going red with embarrassment. Did Owen really say that? All this time I never really felt like I was silver moon wolf. I mean it's not like I really knew anything about my birth pack. Owen just smiled shrugging.
"Well of course she is. She is technically the alpha after all."
My eyes widen at his words.
"Alpha? What? No I'm not!"
Owen stared at me patiently speaking with a matter of fact voice.
"Hate to break it to you kiddo but as first born of my brother you are alpha by birth. Just because the silver moon pack is gone doesn't change the fact that alpha blood runs through your veins. It's also why your so stubborn and refuse to back down when being challenged."
I shook my head glancing between them.
"Thats ridiculous I'm not an alpha and I don't want to be. The silver moon packs gone just as their alpha is I'm just an omega that's all I'll ever be."
Owen stepped closer his hand going to my shoulder a serious look in his eyes.
"While there is still sliver moon blood running in our veins our pack will never be gone. It is your legacy Raine don't ever think you are undeserving of it."
But I was undeserving. I growled stepping away from his hand.
"Both of you are delusional."
I headed for the door.
"Raine-"
I waved my hand behind me.
"I've gotta see a king about a dog."
I left the infirmary behind. While it was a bad joke I really did need to talk to Vericus about Ty. By going on a mission with Ty I now had a legitimate reason to find out everything I could about him. Of course that wasn't the only reason I suggested this mission. If he really was working for Driak then there no way he could resist sabotaging it and when he did I would be ready.
Stretching my hearing I listened out for Vers voice which wasn't easy. There seemed to be a frenzy of activity in the pack house. Pack members were on their phones calling in more wolves. Other members were organising daily training regiments. I was surprised they worked fast for a large pack. But all the chatter made it hard to pin point were Ver was.
I continued down the hall when my search latched onto one particular voice. It was a voice I'd never heard before. It was cold and unfeeling. It was far away making me think they were in the woods. A shiver ran down my spine making me freeze on the spot to concentrate.
"She's leaving tonight."
"Yes the same one Rix escaped from."
The conversation was one sided so I knew they were on the phone. I tried to hear the person on the other line but even my hearing wasn't that good.
"Cora's going too."
"If I do that my covers blown."
I opened the first door I came to that was empty. Going to the window I searched the woods outside but the trees were too dense to see anything. Just as I was about to open the window and jump outside a voice sounded behind me.
"What are you doing?"
My concentration gone I lost the voice just as they hung up. I growled at Vericus turning back to the window just as Ty walked out of the woods. I smiled to myself.
"Mistake number one."
I spun around glaring at Vericus.
"Hasn't anyone ever told you not to sneak up on people?"
He raised an eyebrow crossing his arms over his chest.
"Hasn't anyone ever told you not to go into other peoples rooms?"
I looked around at what was clearly a lived in room from a very messy wolf. I frowned at the mess.
"Well considering I was Raised by Driak it was kind of a requirement to invade peoples privacy."
He shook his head pointing to the door.
"Out."
I shrugged.
"I was done here anyway."
He stared at me suspiciously as I passed.
"I didn't think it was possible to sneak up on you. What was so important?"
I smiled revealing nothing.
"It's not important I was just looking for you."
He closed the door and faced me his red eyes glancing between me and the door.
"You were looking for me in someone else's room?"
I waved off the question annoyed. This was not going well. I wasn't used to people questioning my every move. Stuff it I'll just find out about Ty without Vericus.
"Just Never mind I've got to get ready."
I started to walk away when Vericus grabbed my arm.
"Oh no you don't. Your coming with me."
He started to drag me down the hall til we got to his office where he gently pushed me in closing the door behind us. I groaned as he leaned against the door blocking the exit.
"What the hell is going on? Your up to something I can smell it."
I stared at him putting on my best emotionless face I had in my Arsenal.
"Maybe I thought I heard your voice so come in here to find I was wrong."
"Even if that was true if you were looking for me you could easily have found me. I know you have better hearing then even I do. So do you want to stop playing games?"
I scowled at him. I couldn't tell him. I needed prof for one and two if I told him then I wouldn't be able to catch Ty in the act. If too many knew it would only tip him off that I was on to him. Was it a risk? Of course but if he really was leaking information to Driak he was also our only chance of catching Driak. My silence had Vericus stepping closer til he was only inches away.
"Raine? I can tell your hiding something."
His closeness caused heat to rush between my thighs. Quickly I backed away from him putting more distance between us.
"Look I don't have all the details yet so I don't want to say anything but just know that I'm only trying to help."
He was looking at me with a fire in his eyes. He must have sensed my arousal when he got close. I needed to get away before there was a repeat of what happened in the infirmary.
"Vericus look I don't want to hurt you but you need to let me out right now."
The look he gave me was full of sadness. The look you got with the pain of wanting something that always seemed to be just within reach but never obtainable. Sighing he stepped aside freeing up the door behind him. As I passed he touched my arm and leaned in til his lips were at my ear.
"Whatever it is please be careful."
Pulling away his hand reached to touch the scar on my face. His eyes stared into mine a strange look on his face, before he turned and disappeared out the door. I stood there stunned. There was something different about that look, something different about his touch. I growled to myself. This is why I'm not good around others I just didn't understand anything they did.
The mystery behind Ty thickens how will their mission turn out? Only one way to find out. :)
