Family isn't always forever

I was born into a family of mythical creatures. My dad, Bradly Bain, Was raised by werewolf parents, but later on in life became king of the pixies -while he was on a business trip in Scotland- after saving the pixie queen from becoming a chew toy to a rabid hound a few minutes before she died of a miniature heart attack. The pixies of Parkland forest in Scotland crowned him king the very next day. The crown gave him wings and made him smaller.

When my dad joined the pixies, my mom took my dad's place as probationary Alpha of the Bain Pack until I come of age and can take over from her. She also helps teach the pups how to shift into their wolf form and one of those pups became my best friend. He was a wolf with golden brown fur and yellow eyes, but as a human, he had dark brown hair, brown eyes and a big superiority complex. His name is Johnathan Braxton.

My parents both had ice blue eyes and ink black hair. They got married and had me at the age of 23, their only son. I got both of their looks, but there were two features that made me different from them. One of those differences was the birthmark on my neck. The birthmark looks like a star and my grandmother told me that it was a kiss from the goddess Athena to enable me to outsmart my enemies and be the strongest of all my allies in an attempt to protect them. Another striking difference was my eyes. People have complimented me and said that they almost have a cobalt blue glow to them. My name is Colton Bain.

When I was two years old, my parents got divorced. My dad performed a ritual to be part of the Pixie Parkland tribe forever. He later married a pixie commoner with blond hair and yellow eyes and had his second child, Roxy Bain, four months after my fourth birthday. My father told me about her in a letter he wrote. He sent it to me via a company called Fly-mail (Pretty self-explanatory). Roxy has black hair and orange eyes that would eventually settle into their true colour around the age of 10. When her eye colour settles, her elemental powers would make themselves known which would predict her future duty to the Parkland Forest.

I decided to stay with my mom in the Bain pack village after the divorce. The village was situated in the forgotten forest where I got to be with my best friend and I was happy, but little did I know That happiness would not last long. My mom died when I was fifteen years old and she died because of the Blood Cage clan of Vampires on the night when I experienced my first ever blood moon. The blood moon caused these vampires to become blood thirsty. There was a camp filled with the local junior school kids on the misty mountain a few miles away from the packs village who happened to be in the vampires path.

I was sitting in my living room with Johnathan when it all started. We both started hearing howling coming from outside and so we both dropped everything and ran out the front door and I could tell from the confused look on his face that he was just as confused as i was, but then he turned to me and grabbed my shoulders, "I have to go, but you need to stay here and stay safe."

"But I can help." I said and he shook his head.

"You can't transform into your wolf form yet. Its too dangerous for you in your human state. Please stay here." He pleaded before he transformed and ran off with the rest of the pack.

"You can't tell me what to do." I said to myself before I let out a high pitch whistle. A few seconds later, my mom's mutant pet tiger, Luna ran past me with my mom on her back. My mom pulled me up onto Luna's back without slowing down and we both road in the same direction as the rest of the pack. I noticed that my mom had her hunters bow strapped over her torso with a few silver tipped arrows.

We got to the not-so-happy campers just as the slime-faced monsters began to encircle their prey like a pack of raptors around a chunk of meat. My mom stopped a few feet from the camp grounds and told me to stay put.

"But mom, I can help." She sighed.

"If you truly wish to help, then you will do as I say and stay here." She said before she rode off.

She joined the pack as they got into position. She knocked an arrow and nodded her head. The first wolf jumped out of the mist. It was a grey she wolf. Once I arrived, I hid behind a tree in an attempt not to be seen, but when I tried to look around the tree I stepped forward and felt a twig snap under the weight of my foot. The vampire that the she-wolf aimed to attack heard the snap and moved with such incredible speed that it was hard to make out its movements. It flung its arm and it connected with the she-wolfs ribs and the force of impact caused her to fly backwards into a nearby pine tree within a millisecond.

The next wolf that lunged out of the shadows was Johnathan. He jumped onto the back of one of the vampires and dug his canines into the neck of the sharp-toothed creature and the rest of the pack followed shortly after. The cries that came from the monsters were louder than the chimes of Big Ben in London when standing right in front of it.

Someone must have heard that.

I understood why Johnathan lunged out the way he did, because the realization occurred to me that the she-wolf that was back handed into the pine tree was his mother. I decided to run within the shadows in her direction to see if I can help her out of harms way, but after being thrown against the tree the way she was, her rips broke and punctured her heart.

She was dead.

I crept back, further into the shadows with tears in my eyes and glanced in my moms general direction just in time to see the pitch black blade of a sword pass through her chest. The sword belonging the vampire king, Gerundival. The cause of my mothers painful demise.

Luna panicked, threw my dead mother to the ground and ran my way. As she ran past Johnathan, he left the fight and pushed off from a vampire and shifted back into his human form just as he landed on Luna's saddle. He grabbed hold of the reigns and steered her to the edge of camp where I ran to meet them. He grabbed hold of my hand and pulled me up behind him. He steered Luna further into the shadows of the forest. It wasn't long before we noticed that we were being followed by one of the pail skinned creepers.

"Take the reins." Johnathan said as he handed me the reins and moved to the end of Luna's back, "Continue straight and keep to the shadows as much as possible. I'll find you," he continued.

"What are you going to do?" I asked without taking my eyes off the non-existent path in front of me.

"I'm going to have a little fun," He said with a smile and jumped off of Luna's back. I turned around to watch as he transformed into his wolf form in mid air and landed on the vampire, pinning it to the floor and chewing on its face. As I turned my eyes back to look in front of me, I was almost spotted by a flashlight. Most likely the commoners that sent out a search party for the kids after hearing the screech. I quickly pulled on Luna's reins and led her into a thicker part of the forest. I pulled back on Luna's reins after a little while and we halted behind a bush where I could still see the haze of light from the flashlights that twirled around frantically in search of the creature that could have made the noise.

I leaned against a tree and closed my eyes as tears started their decent down my cold cheeks, but my tears were cut short when I heard something moving in the bush across from me. Luna started to growl and I dared not move. I heard twigs snap and I swallowed hard and decided to get into fighting position.

"Colt?" Came a voice from behind me that made me jump.

"Johnathan! Don't sneak up on me, man."

"Are you okay?" He asked with concern.

I took a deep breath and slid down a tree trunk, "Yeah, I'm fine. What are we going to do now?" I asked in hopes of him having an answer.

He looked out into the shadows and then back at me, "I have no idea."

and then an thought occurred to me, "I have an idea." I said to Johnathan as I got to my feet and jumped onto Luna's back.

"What is it?" He asked in curiosity.

"We are going to see the one person who knows how to handle this kind of situation. My aunt."

"Your aunt. How can she help in this kind of situation?" Johnathan asked and jumped up behind me.

"You'll see." I said and hit my heels against Luna's side and she took off in the direction of my aunt, Linda Stone.
