Chapter Twenty Seven: Happy Birthday

The trucks heavily across the ground through the Wasteland. Kara found herself in a convoy of around 15 trucks, heading to the supposed Vampiric nest. Kara was riding in the front seat of one of the trucks with Margerat who was driving. There was a silence between them both as Kara looked outside the window. She had not been in a vehicle for so long. It felt strange and almost foreign to her now. She was use to teleporting now that the trip was feeling agonizingly slow.

" Kara, I'm going to be honest with you.." Margerat finally spoke as Kara continued looking out of the window, her thoughts going back to the fight with Gabriel.

" I don't understand you and Gabriel's relationship. And I don't think I want to or even could even if I did want to. But what I can tell you, is that I have watched a lot of friends die. I have seen a lot of people that I came to accept as irreplaceable be destroyed before my eyes. And the reason I'm saying this is mainly due to you and Gwen. I know you say you don't care about her, and that is fine. If you dont, then I accept that. But Gabriel has no way of knowing that" Margerat knew Kara was going to keep herself shut down and part of her internal maternal instincts were kicking in.

"He should though. He should trust me. We are mates and he should know I wouldn't lie to him. I vowed him honesty and I have kept my word " Kara sighed, her head resting against the warm glass.

" Well, I'm not saying what he did was right. And I'm not saying what he feels is correct either. But Gabriel loves you. He is angry and stressed but he loves you. I'm hoping you two can eventually talk this out. At some point. Walking away from this completely is abandoning everything you two have been through. And while I don't know much about Lycans. I know they can be prideful. And that they expect the upmost loyalty" Margerat explained as she rolled down the window and pulled out a cigarette, sliding a stick into her mouth and reaching for a lighter.

" When did you start smoking?" Kara looked and asked in surprise. Margerat flicked the lighter and released the flame at the end of the dried tobacco leafs.

" Somewhere between watching my neighbors getting their necks snapped and seeing a cloud of vampires over my house" Margerat snapped back. " Oh...right" Kara watches the flame dissapear.

"Can I have one? " Kara asked, to which Margerat seemed to hesitate. " I would really prefer you don't start smoking" She explained but Kara continued pushing until she finally gave in and offered her a cigarette. Kara took it and placed it in her mouth, mimicking Margerat's actions as she began flicking the lighter which didn't light. " Sometimes that happens. It's annoying " Margerat chuckled as she released a tunnels of smoke from her nose.

Kara put the lighter down and helped up her finger, releasing a small flame from her finger tip to light the cigarette. Margerat laughed at this. Seeing her child finally being able to do magic. " Impressive " she smiled as Kara inhaled before releasing a cloud of smoke from her mouth before coughing.

" Happy birthday Kid" Margerat smiles. Kara had forgotten about it but today was actually her birthday. " God what a mess" Kara Sighs as she takes another drag from the cigarette.
