The month of April marked the peak of the spring season in Tokyo. By then, Midori already completed her 28th week of pregnancy.
Before long, it was time for her to leave her Ginza home and return to the Takigawa mansion to prepare for the child's birth.
While most commoners returned to their natal home in the last month of pregnancy, Midori's grandfather and four elder brothers insisted on her coming back three months before she gave birth.
Susan Stafford, Midori's attending physician, was especially adamant about this point.
"You have gone through a lot, Midori-san," she said. "While I like that you keep yourself busy, I would rather you did not get kidnapped twice, get into a sword fight once, and fall once during your first pregnancy!"
"But Stafford-Sensei, I literally could not help it," Midori complained. "I didn't ask for any of those!"
