“May we offer you a drink?” I said, pointing at the well-stocked bar.
“Thank you, no. Are your rooms satisfactory?”
“They are beyond satisfactory, thank you.”
“I came up here to give you these.”
He handed each of us a thumb drive.
“Boot your laptops and insert this into a USB port. After a prompt, it will install itself. The temporary password is the name of your college, the one where you earned your first degree, spelled backward. When prompted, be sure to change the password to something complicated but easy for you to remember. The program is extremely user-friendly. Please guard this little device with your life, and be careful when you attempt the password: if you get it wrong three times, the program will become totally inoperable.”
“Thank you. By the way, are we adequately dressed for dinner?”
“Certainly.”
“I trust dinner will be a small affair.”
