Chapter 110

Gert had become a regular fixture in our lives ever since she’d acted as nurse-in-charge of the triplets when we’d flown them home from Boston. Her grown children had visited her during the ski season, and we’d let them use our house on the hill. From what she’d told us, she had an active social life in Aragoni, revolving principally around the small expatriate American community in residence. Since Marco and I were not particularly adept at buying clothing for children, she went shopping with us every three months or so as needed.

As we headed for the parking lot—we’d driven to work in preparation for the shopping expedition—Marco inquired as to where we were going.

“There’s a nice little children’s clothing shop in that new strip center on the north side of town,” she said.

“Geez, Gert, you know more about Aragoni than I do,” Marco said.

“You should get out and mingle more. You’d learn things that way.”
