Alice looked at her carefully "You were going to say something that the demons could do".
"Nothing, seriously it's nothing" she checked her watch and sighed "oh family dinner by five o clock, I'll have to go now, be safe" she reached out and nervously touched Alice's cheek then walked away quickly.
Alice seriously thought this was strange, what could it have been about the ouija board that made her so uncomfortable and if the ouija board really had demons, what could they do? Naturally, the attitude of Esther towards the ouija board was enough to make Alice do away with the board but because of her burning desire to know what happened to her sister and to maybe get a revenge, she researched much more about the board, she used her allowances to buy books on ouija boards and possessive demons. She had not started hearing and seeing things yet. After the incident where Esther freaked out because of the ouija board, she didn't come to school for a week and when Alice called in, she was never around. Then when she resumed, she started avoiding Alice, they would usually have long discussions but now she would only talk to her for a few minutes and said she needed to go and do something. Alice also found out that she would hide away from her during most break periods just so she wouldn't sit with her. Alice was trying so hard to understand this, what was happening with her best friend and she clearly remember that all these began when she showed her the ouija board.
"You're avoiding me, Alice said to Esther, "what's happening, what's with the ouija board or have I done something to you, don't you think there's something I should know?"
"What Alice, don't start any dramas, there's nothing, I've just been taking school seriously?" Esther replied smirking.
"Oh, wow, and I haven't been?"
"No of course not, the only thing you do is obsess about your sister's death, you carry a dumb ouija board around thinking that it might have some connection to your sister's death, you act you're the first person to lose a sibling, get over it Alice, damn!" Esther said, she spoke very quickly but Alice heard it all, Esther looked away to the building besides Alice. Alice didn't really know what she was feeling after hearing Esther, she thought of slapping her, pulling her hair, pushing her down, even of shooting her but she felt really weak.
"Are you done?" Alice asked calmly
" Yeah" Esther replied, her eyes were wide.
"I never want to see you ever again" Alice replied and turned to go
"Bye freak" Esther said quietly. Alice heard that too.
She ran to the restroom and there she cried till her eyes turned really red, she felt all alone. What had gotten into Esther?, Did she just lose her best friend too? She felt like her life had fallen apart. She waited in the restroom till everyone was gone and then she walked home, her parents were not home yet, she just went to her room and there she cried some more. This was when she started hearing and seeing things. She brought out the ouija board and started examining it again looking at the colorful markings on it's side and the many drawings of bizarre creatures on it.
"is it yours?" someone asked
Alice was startled, she looked around and there was no one in the room. She looked yet again and then continued to look at the board. She suddenly became hungry probably from too much crying so she put back the ouija board into her school bag and went to the kitchen to get some food, she found some oat meal and she poured some into a bowl, she was feeling a bit weak now, she wanted to take a nap right after eating this food. She reached out to get the bottle of liquid milk from one of the kitchen cupboard and suddenly she saw a dark face smiling at her through the mirror between the cupboards. She turned with fear and there was no one, "hello, anyone there?" she asked in fear looking around the kitchen.
she walked slowly to the kitchen door and opened it then look left and right, there was no one. She walked back into the kitchen and got the milk, she was sure that she had seen a face or maybe it was just her mind playing tricks on her, she thought.
She quickly walked out of the kitchen. When she got to her room, she saw the ouija board she put inside her bag lying outside the bag and there was written on the side of it "is it yours?".
She was now really frightened, "who's that, anyone in here, hello" she asked raising her voice a little. She went to look in the cupboard and behind the blinds, there was no one. Under the bed, she bent down slowly and looked, she saw the ouija board under the bed, she gasped in fear and stood up at once to look on the bed, the ouija board was still on the bed. She was confused and scared, what was happening now?
She bent down slowly again and the ouija board was not there but then her fear became great because it felt like someone was standing behind her, her heart was now beating heavily with fear as she started raising herself up slowly.
