Chapter 81

Three Weeks Later

Light town lab.....

Will was seated in front of Lambert's table in his office with his feet on top of the table while he played with the chain on his wrist.

Lambert was standing by the window while speaking to their boss. With the way, he looked angry and choked as if he was holding back his words, one could tell that he was in trouble.

Will looked at his friend amused. He wondered how the boss would react if he found out about the female wolf.

He would probably blow the roof off the lab. Lambert had scared everyone into keeping their mouths shut in case anyone blurted it out to the boss.

"Yes, Boss. Will is with me. Ok, Sir. I will pass the information over to him." Lambert said before hanging up.

He was gripping the phone so hard his fingers had lost color. "Why am I still working for this egoist man?" asked Lambert

"Probably because he paid more," answered Will even if the question wasn't meant for, and it earned him a hard glare from Lambert.

"You could always ignore his calls, you know"

Lambert looked at him as though he had three heads. Wondering where he gets off from being so annoying towards him.

The look only made Will laugh harder. He knew people like their boss. They acted all perfect whilst sending others around to do their dirty work and hid behind the good boy look. He didn't know what their boss looked like physically but he believed that he was a cowered.

"He seems angrier this time," commented Lambert

"When was he never angry though? If you ask me, he is a mad dog" countered, Will

Even without Lambert reporting the content of their call, Will could conclusively say that it centered around what had been happening for the past three weeks.

It was enough for the wolf to have been broken out of the animal rescue center by someone else, but having it pinned on them, especially after their previous attempt.

They had tried to find out who it was, but the people behind the whole breaking were real experts. Will had been impressed by how they had smoothly carried out the entire mission without leaving a trail.

It was not until they realized the trail was towards their door. It would have been easier to deal with the police had the lab been legal, but as things were, they were in real trouble.

Everyone around the lab wondered how the trail was left in their area. It was close to the lab, and they couldn't bring themselves to close in on the entire situation.

The whole situation summed up screamed expertise, something the X4 always excelled in.

The guys in the control room confirmed that the cameras were working fine at the time.

It seemed like they were dealing with a different breed at the moment.

"You that it will be deep trouble for you once that man finds out about the wolf, right? Will asked Lambert was now seated.

"Haaaaaa...." Lambert screamed in the palm of his hands, pulling at his hair.

It was frustrating for him. Sometimes he thought of quitting and then remembered the money and respect that came with the job, and his greed took over.

Aside from dealing with the police, who were constantly knocking on their door, there was also the rude and egoistic boss.

Very soon, the police would show up with a search warrant, and they all dreaded that moment.

"What is it?" Will asked his friend after the long frustrated sigh sipped out of him. He could write a list of some of the reasons, but conclusively there was one specific one; it had been for the past three weeks.

"I just have a lot of questions running in my mind endlessly. It's frustrating to know that someone out there knows what we are doing behind these walls" answered Lambert with another sigh at the end of the statement.

"We could just sit behind and wait for the police or go the proactive way to pull ourselves out of this ditch that we've found ourselves in" Will countered, the playful look long gone

Lambert turned to look at his friend and nodded in understanding. He was willing to jump on the next ship as long as it spelled police off our back, but the issue was where to start.

"I could list a few names from which the enemy could be pointed out, but it all gets more confusing," Lambert said

"My thoughts exactly, especially after all these years of stepping on toes; I bet you that the list is endless"

"I have one specific name" offered Lambert

"I zeroed in on that too, but he has to counterattack us. I mean, the man had created such an image to just have it thrown away"

"I mean, you can just cross him out of the possible list. How about letting us sit there pretty? I bet you that we shall be back on this track again."

And with that, the two men left the office for the security room. They needed to see how far the IT guy had gone with finding some truth about the mud that was soon sinking into their skin judging by how the police were persistently throwing it their way.
