Chapter 40

When the first sounds of their heartbeats were heard by Malia, it was love at first everything. She couldn't help but get emotional. She turned her head to look at Alex and asked in the sweetest voice, "Are these heartbeats really sounding inside me?" She asked with tears streaming down her eyes. For the first time, she shed happy tears.

"Yes, baby, the beautiful sounds are coming from your belly," He answered lovingly as he wiped her tears. The sounds felt so calming, and Alex asked doctor Henry to record them. As the couple was lost in the newfound joy, Malia suddenly asked a question to which no one had an answer to

"Why is the sound of their heartbeat so loud? Is it normal?" Of course, the sound had to be loud; those there were not normal babies.

Both men looked at each other, but Alex's look was more demanding as if to tell doctor Henry to find an answer to tell Malia. 'It was really troublesome to have a human as a mate,' Alex thought.

He had to go through the explanation stages as if he were raising a baby. But he couldn't complain much since his mother was human too.

Thinking of his mother, Alex could only smile bitterly. He didn't have a chance to grow so long in his parents' company. Had they been around, he would have asked his father how he went about it with his mother. How she reacted after finding out that he wasn't human-like, she was.

When all Malia's questions met was silence, she shrugged and decided to let it go. Maybe her little ones were just healthy. It was a miracle to have two humans grow in her, and yes, she would keep them. If her parents didn't want her, then it wasn't her fault as a child, so she would enjoy her babies, and she would give them everything that she was denied.

I am going to be a good mother, and I will love you two so much; God is my witness,' she thought as she cleaned the tears that had left her eyes.

"Doctor, when do I get to start sleeping?" She suddenly blurted out

The beast's heart skipped a, beat-making him stop just to place his hand on his heart so as to understand what had just happened. 'She said yes' Came a sound from Alex's head, making him smile.

He really wanted to hug Malia as a form of appreciation. However, he didn't want to scare her that way. He looked at her and how she was rubbing her belly lovingly and made a promise deep within him with an intent to forever keep it 'papa is going to protect the three of you with everything that I am'

"Not yet, Ms. Thatcher," doctor Henry started. Malia turned to him with questions in her eyes. Didn't they say that she would have to sleep for a month?

"Am I not going to sleep anymore?

"Of course, you are, but you will do so three days from now. You need to take medication for the next three days to prepare your body for that one-month slumber. And just so you know, you will be just fine during that period."

Malia trusted him well enough to let him decide everything. But, doctor Henry's eyes were warm, like a father should be. For someone who wasn't loved by her father, it was strange for Malia to know how a father's eyes could be warm, but she got that feeling when she looked at doctor Henry's eyes.

"You have warm eyes, doctor."

"And you are a kind one, Ms." doctor Henry responded with a smile. He looked at Malia, and his eyes turned red.

He had his ghosts too, and they haunt him once in a while, but Malia's statement made him smile, and he was so grateful.

Alex looked at their interaction, and he got jealous. Were his eyes not warm? Why wasn't she saying anything to him too? He wished she, too, could feel the emotional changes in him like he did about her.

Alex knew that it was going to take a while before they became sank as mates. She had to first like him enough to open up, accept the bond, or even fall in love with him. If only she could fall in love with him? That would really make things easier because he would have built trust by then and could quickly tell her everything.

"I will see you three days from now, Malia," doctor Henry stated, and Malia nodded. He had already packed his equipment. "I will send you medicine through Mr. Ford, and be sure to follow the time and eat healthily as the diet says, ok?

Malia smiled while nodding; he really did give her the fatherly feeling. Right from when he started speaking to her earlier. It wasn't scary anymore. Was that how it felt when a father talked to you?

It was strange how Malia looked at doctor Henry, and Alex saw it too. It was full of longing, and he felt weird having witnessed it. Did she like her men old? Doctor Henry wasn't ugly; he was in his fifties, and his body was as fit as a thirty-year-old. Did Malia prefer the doctor to him?

Alex's mind had traveled so many miles from the current world, and it was making all kinds of assumptions driving him crazy.

On the other hand, Malia was so happy to know that she would be a mother. The tune had changed for her after she heard the sound of their heartbeats. She was ready to do it all just so children won't feel what she had felt all these years.
