"Why did you keep them in your car?" And I realize how rude that must've sounded. He looks at me with no expression.

"I mean, oh." I say looking at them too. No wonder.

"These were her favourite. One of the few things I could take with me when they sold the house."

"Then, maybe I shouldn't wear them. What if I ruin them?" I ask. I really don't want to. That would be horrible.

"No it's fine. My mom's always wanted to pass down her things to a daughter, except she never had one. She'll probably consider you her own. I promise she won't mind. Besides, they've been stuck here for quite a bit and you can't really wear your heels." He says looking at them, tilting his head slightly.

"Yeah, I guess so."

"So, you ready?" He asks. Yes, I think I am. I pull over my leather jacket over the hoodie, but he stops me by pulling my hand.

"It's too cold for that." He says, and pull off a jacket he had around his seat.
