The Ninth Continent: Hazel Green

He halted instantly, then slowly let out a devilish smirk under his mask. “Don’t act all innocent around me”, he gradually raised his head until he locked his peculiar eyes into her oblivious ones and continued, “we both know who you really are." “That’s where you’re wrong Jacob”, she said, pulling out a midget handgun from the pocket of her blue, badged jacket. Aiming with both hands at the masked man’s head she said in an angry and pain-stricken voice. “I came here to start over. To be free from the burden of the past. But you’ve made my life a living hell already, and you’ve been here how long?”, she rhetorically asked. “I was doing so well, so well…”, she said stealing a glance at the sky and the little ray of light from the sun it allowed through and continued, “..until you came here and destroyed everything I worked so hard for” “Which is?” “My peace” she screamed. “I left all those burdens, and all those mistakes behind, only for you to come here and pull me back into that darkness. But no more”, she said with an expression of strong disagreement, shaking her head. “I promise you” she said cocking the gun “It ends today." Chapter 17: It’ll Be Fine

Chapter 17: It'll Be Fine

"So where are we going to lay him to rest", Makayla asked, sitting on the brown blooded sofa, her hands in praying position, with her head resting helplessly on it.

"I don't know", Jacob emotionlessly answered. "But you don't have to worry about it", he wrapped his arms around his sobbing sister. "I'll take care of that. "You have to go back home now"

Makayla ousted herself from Jacob's warm grip, completely baffled by the words that just came out of Jacob's mouth. "What do you mean I need to go home".

"I mean you need to go home sis. You've helped me out enough alre-"

"I've helped you out?", Makayla said with a sudden switch in emotion. "You think I was doing a favor Jay?" She swiftly stood up from the seat, walking around the room in no particular direction then stopped in the middle and stared down a vague-looking Jacob. "We are family. I'm here to play my pa…"

"And you've played it to it's fullest Kayla", Jacob said, likewise standing up from the sofa. Shelby just stood there not knowing whether or not to do or say anything. "But it's time for you to go back home now. To your real family"

"My real family?" said Makayla in a tone that wreaked of intense disgust. "And then this family is what, huh?", she said coming closer to Jacob like she was prepared to start an intense fight.

"Okay I think we all just need to…"

"Shut up", Jacob and Makayla said in unison, shutting Shelby down immediately she let words dribble out her tender mouth. They stared at each other for what seemed to be an entirety of time until Makayla turned back to Jacob and said, "I'm staying right here"

"This isn't the time to start being stubborn", Jacob said in a voice that seemed to show he was slowly getting weary of Makayla's pestilence.

"I'm not being stubborn. And I'm not going anywhere", She said, looking him straight in the eyes, little to no space separating the two siblings. "A Family sticks toge…"

"This Family is dead", Jacob snapped. His last strand of patience finally broken in two. His fists were clenched, his eyes wreaking of intense fury and his breath becoming more audible with every exhale. "Family is dead", he repeated a little softer. "They took Tarah away from us, and they did the same for Jonathan, permanently". He turned, trying to hide his slowly forming tears from his sister, and then turned back. "I only have you and Tarah left in this world. And I'll be damned if I'm losing another person I care so much about", he slowly said, caressing her cheeks with his bloody, cold and scarred hands. "And that's why I want you to go Makayla. Go back home. I'll take care of everything around here. Trust me", he said, looking deeper into her brown, teary eyes. "So promise you'll leave, and won't come back unless I ask you to. Promise me", he said, jolting her head back a little.

Makayla let out a couple tears but nodded her head whispering, "I promise". She rested her head on his broad chest, soaking his tight, black long sleeve with tears.

"Okay now" Jacob said, gently pushing her head back a little and looking uncompromisingly into her eyes, "You need to go now. My driver's just outside a couple blocks away. I'll walk you there", he said, gently holding her hand, Shelby quietly following behind, "And where are you going", Jacob said, halting in his path without even turning to grace Shelby with a glance

"I'm just..."

"You stay here Michelle"

"But..."

"I won't repeat myself", Jacob said sounding a lot more serious this time.

Shelby let out a heavy sigh, while Jacob slowly walked his sister across the glass pieces and then outside the house

.............................................….

"Take care of her Martin, and give her anything she wants. Is that clear?" Jacob said, with his hands on resting slightly on the cars windows that were halfway down.

"Yes boss", Martin replied in a voice gripped with fear.

"Is something the matter", Jacob calmly asked

After unsuccessfully trying to steady himself, Martin said, "Sir I'm sorry. I saw them coming out if the house. I heard the gunshots but I was scared. I couldn't do anyt…"

"It's okay Martin", Jacob replied with little to no show of emotion. "Just focus on getting my sister home safely. Nothing more, nothing less. Okay?"

"Okay", He replied, starting the engine.

"Alright then", Jacob said, changing posture and now standing straight up. "I'll see you when all of this is over okay sis?"

"Okay" Makayla replied from the Passenger's seat just beside Martin.

"Love you", he whispered as the car backed out and drove into sundown

For the first time in close to three hours, Jacob let out a less tense exhale, knowing he had sorted out one part of the problem. And was about to go from light exhale to light smile until he turned and saw Shelby on the corridor just a few steps outside the house,

'"I'm gonna kill her", he whispered, walking almost in irritated fashion as he approached the house

"He better calm the fuck down", Shelby thought to herself, seeing his murky, muscular figure almost glitter in the sundown.

"I thought I was very clear when I told you to stay in the house", Jacob said, lightly pressing Shelby's back against the white, breaking wall of the bungalow.

"You're not the boss of me Jacob. Malcolm left me here to…"

"Enough", Jacob tiredly said, raising his hand to signal silence. "He's not here anymore, so you don't have to kiss his ass", he said with disgust, entering the house. Immediately he passed through the brown, unhinged door, and entered into the house, he started moving around frantically, like he was searching for something, or someone. He looked back and glanced at. "Where is he?" He said, slowly coming close to Shelby with that devilish demeanor lurking just over him.

"I don't know what you're talking about", Shelby unapologetically said.

"Where's Jonathan's body!" Jacob said a little less calm.

"What are you talking about?" Shelby said with a light crinkle of confusion across her face, moving out from under Jacob's intense gaze. "He's right the…" she could barely finish her sentence when, down on the floor, the exact spot where just minutes ago, Jonathan's cold lifeless body laid, there was nothing but, a pool of blood, and something that glimmered in it, just at the east wing of the house. "What's that?", Shelby asked, pointing to the glimmering object partially dowsed in pints of blood. She walked over and picked it up, fingering through what was probably half a metal piece that looked like it had been hit by some sharp, object. "What's this", she said, glancing it at Jacob.

He picked it up, cleaning it a little with his rough hands. On recognizing the material, weirdly enough, he let out a sigh and said, "That's enough investigation for one day, time to clear the house up"

"So you don't care that your brother's body just diss…"

"Hey, I didn't ask for your opinion or your sympathy Michelle. Wherever his body is, it'll be fine."

"What the fuck is that supposed to…"

"I'm going to go get the broom now. When your lazy ass is done talking, you can go and get something to clean up this mess", he uncaringly said, walking out of the living room and then into the passage.
