The Mutant Siren

Humans seem simple. Mutants seem complicated. To humans, mutants are like gods. To mutants, humans don't understand the responsibility of power. In a world where half of the global population is made up of mutants, a myth becomes reality. One that has been passed down through the generations of mankind, human and mutant alike. It's always the most simple things that are complicated. (Revised Edition) (The universe in this book will be the basis of stories to come. There are sectors of mutants within themselves, like vampires, elementals and such. However, I don't wish to cram it all into one book. Hence this book hopes to explore mutants as a whole, and in particular, this myth that has become reality.)

A new profession

Lee took initiative and began.

"Our boss. He's....he's dead at the office table in our HQ."

Hannah sighed. "Was it the jugular of ice?"

Lee and Neo looked astounded. "Wait...you know about that?", both speaking at the same time. Hannah got up and walked a lap around the room as she spoke.

"I've been tracking shady mergers and acquisitions for the last 8 months. Small companies, start ups. Swallowed whole in a few weeks. Your team's situation was no different."

Neo looked puzzled. "You knew this would happen?"

Hannah looked him in the eye as if she was boring into his soul. "Yes. However. It shouldn't have happened this week. These talks were scheduled for 'next' week."

That's when they all came to the conclusion and Neo spelt it out for them.

"There are to be no such talks this close to a season opening! So... Why our team?"

Hannah tilted her head to the side as she looked at them. "Why do you think? Did they question why someone wanted to acquire them so suddenly? When they are so successful? Hm?". The boys knew she was right. They hung their heads in disappointment, shame and shock.

After a tense silence, Lee was the first one to speak.

" So. How do we go about this then? I was thinking we would investigate this issue ourselves then go to the authorities - "

Hannah cut him off. "No. If you think these meetings are targeted, how can you be sure that they haven't bribed the authorities as well?"

"Uhh... Well -"

"Then your boss takes one for the team, you wanna play hero and go avenge him, but you don't even got the balls to play on their level. You're just a rich boy who drives at high speed for a living!"

Lee saw red and launched a fist towards her, only for her to deflect it and swing him around onto his back. He suddenly remembered this position. "The room... It was you?!"

Hannah replied, bearing all her weight down on him: "Yes that was me."

Lee was able to knock her off and free himself long enough to regain his footing. By this time, Hannah was sandwiched between the boys with no apparent escape....until Neo tried to hit her from behind. She slipped down under Lee's legs with impeccable speed causing Neo to miss his blow and knocked his brother square in the nose. Hannah stood behind them smirking.

"Come and get me."

The boys launched strike after strike and while they were pretty good fighters, Hannah was way faster than them. She moved with the fluidity of the wind and the agility of an acrobat. Not even a cat was this agile. It was as if she was dancing with blades.

After a couple of rounds, Lee collapsed by the sofa, panting hard. "You're seriously...not wasted after all that?". Hannah tidied her hair and stalked closer to Lee. No matter how crazy she seemed, she was still breathtaking. Lee almost wished he was tired from doing something a little more....demanding.

"Hey. Focus up. Daydream later." She clicked her fingers close to his face to wake him up from his reverie then proceeded to help the guys up. "You wanted my help to investigate. I had to see if you were tough enough and surprisingly, you are."

Neo cracked his arm back into place as if it was nothing. "Really? Damn you were way faster though."

"True, but that's because I have a serum in my veins. It's one I made a few months back. It gives the power of ferals but without the claws."

Hannah led them to a room at the back. "Are you ready for this? Cuz once you start, there is no going back. This might even change your career."

The boys gave each other the sternest look mankind has ever seen.

"We're ready."

Wow what are these ferals she speaks of? And why do her eyes have the same tint as the ice man? Related or not? Stay tuned
