The Mountain of the Alpha King

[As of 11/30/23 this novel's ROUGH DRAFT is COMPLETED] [Warning: 18+ Content! - cursing, dark themes, sexual content, and other adult matters are present - NOTE: there is NO 'knotting' in this story for both those who come looking for it, and those who want to avoid it. I just wanted to give a head's up either way. LGBTQ+ representation is also in this novel. :)] This is book one of the Ylphasia series. War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

Unwelcome Information

Veltar returned to the cave after his unfortunate mishap, and went back to looking at the assortment of medications again.

He silently cursed himself as he remembered that his original intention was to ask Jhinto about how to use the silver neutralizer. I mean, really he couldn't blame himself, it's not like he /wanted/ to have to masturbate in the woods. Shamefully. No, he had just been doing his job.

The brown haired male shook his head with both disappointment and just sheer disbelief. He had never had such a bad luck streak in his life. Was he being punished for some reason? Had he beaten up Silas too much?

...If so, this was absolutely worth it, then. He had never felt so good as he did when he got to sock Silas right in his smug, ugly face. Now, he was excited to watch Metas mop the literal forest floor with him, and for the roar of laughter they all planned to give the spoiled brat. It was neither here nor there at the moment, though. For now, he had to ask Jhinto what to do with the box he delivered.

The only reason he was dreading going back into the hovel was because they were more than likely still talking religion - and right now, Veltar wasn't keen on being grateful to the powers that be for torturing him for what has felt like his entire life.

Whatever. He'd trudge back there grumpily, and find to his dissatisfaction that the two males were indeed still talking about Gods, Goddesses, and whatever nonsense else. His face probably said it all, because Jyriah looked at him with a frown.

"You alright there?" The coal-furred coated wolf asked with honest worry.

"Yes. I just need to know how to administer that silver neutralizer. Our Luna needs it badly," Veltar answered with a deep, tired sigh.

"Two drops under the tongue. I would wait until she wakes up, however. There will be a violent reaction from her insides. It will look worse than how it feels, I assure you" the old mage replied cryptically.

"What do you mean violently?" Veltar and Jyriah asked at the same time.

"Oh...well..." Jhinto trailed off as he didn't really want to answer that question. Instead he continued on with, "I assure you it's not painful - just very uncomfortable, or rather it feels odd. I've used it myself."

"What's going to happen?" Jyriah insisted and looked at the elder with a glare in his orbs.

"The silver will exit her orifices, and it will look terrifying, but as I said - it's not going to harm her," the mage replied as calmly as he could in order to keep both of the young ones in front of him at ease.

Then, he followed up quickly with, "I think it best if you give the medication to Metas and allow the two of them to go off in private. I can tell you, the process is not flattering, and no Luna or Alpha would want to be seen in such a state."

"Who are you, creepy old guy?" Jyriah asked with a mixture of disbelief and awe.

"Jyriah-" Veltar began in order to correct him, but he stopped when he heard Jhinto laugh.

"I am merely a servant of the kingdom. I have watched over Metas since he was a young boy, and I have many many years of magical knowledge. All I wish is to see our home returned to its former glory, and the only way to do that would be to unite us all."

He paused only to breathe, and then as though he merely forgot something on a list he added, "which reminds me, you should try to wake Metas and Myranda as soon as you can. If not just for the weaponry they hold - but also for the dire news that Harbinger wants to seal off the tunnels in order to kill a large amount of the population as a warning. Those in the higher echelon of the lower mountains would be at serious risk of death. At least the ones lower in the earth will be close to the mines, and I know there is good ventilation down there. Those small holes for comfort will only bring in so much air before it can't keep up."

The two young males just stared at him with disbelief, both at the tone he used, and the information he dumped in their laps.

"Why didn't you lead with that?" Jyriah argued a little too loudly.

"Shhh," Veltar hissed. "Don't wake up the kids, they're scared enough."

"Sorry. I'm only terrified because my fucking niece is down there. Don't mind me," the hot-headed wolf replied with a sneer.

"I get that...but some kids who happen to be nephews and nieces of others in our care should be thought of, too" Veltar reminded him with a stern look in his eyes.

"Yeah, yeah...." Jyriah replied in defeat and lowered his voice and posture.

"Do this old wolf a favor, and go wait for Metas and Myranda to wake up. I believe you need rest as well as the rest of the colony here. Your eyes are tired, Veltar."

The alchemist looked to the mage with bewilderment and just nodded. He was indeed so very, very tired. He didn't even argue, or refute, or even agree with Jhinto - he just left through the hole that led back out into the now afternoon sun.

Unlike the title suggests - I DID try to not info-dump.

Thank you for reading it if you found it painful! Please let me know, and I can make a better rendition of it the next round of editing I do.
