[As of 11/30/23 this novel's ROUGH DRAFT is COMPLETED] [Warning: 18+ Content! - cursing, dark themes, sexual content, and other adult matters are present - NOTE: there is NO 'knotting' in this story for both those who come looking for it, and those who want to avoid it. I just wanted to give a head's up either way. LGBTQ+ representation is also in this novel. :)] This is book one of the Ylphasia series. War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

Plutonium

"These are all very bad, very dangerous human weapons. I learned about them as apart of my history. Silas knows a little, too - but I hope not how to use them. They're in that safe for a reason. We sealed up all the weapons humans kept in that mountain to keep them out of the hands of others. I never suspected that Harbinger and Silas would truthfully stoop this low. This could harm more than just us. It could kill the entire forest - especially that thing," Metas stopped and pointed to the small ball-like picture with some kind of fish-tail she had drawn.

"That small thing? I was told it was pretty tiny - could it really hurt that much?" Cassandra asked with confusion.

"Yes. It's some kind of thing humans used to destroy cities. It's a lot like a magic bomb, except it hurts everything and not just want you intend. I've seen human history books where it's taken out entire cities in mere seconds," Metas replied with worry.

"If they do that...if they use that... we're all dead. I don't think either of them realize that. Or - maybe Harbinger does. He might want to use it as leverage against other clans. To do so would be foolish. We're not the only ones with human weaponry. We just happen to have whatever the humans who once used this place left after their death," he continued and put his hand to his face.

"All we can hope for is that it isn't useful anymore. Hopefully its age diminished its use. I don't know, though. What I do know is that isn't silver they found...it's worse... It's plutonium. When the humans found a way to keep it in a time-stasis crystal from magic, they started to stockpile it in hopes it would be used against our kind - and the other magical creatures. You don't understand...Fuck. Fuck!" Metas shouted now and stood up to pace back and forth.

"This is horrible news - but I appreciate you risked your life to tell me. When this war is over, you will be pardoned should my Luna wish to forgive you for what you did to her sister," Metas replied. He wanted to let Myranda have her spat with Cassandra, but with what was just delivered - he had no time to waste. He needed to speak to Joss and Ajax immediately. He needed someone to talk tactics to immediately.

He left immediately after his words. Where once Myranda would have waited for him to invite her along, she now felt empowered to follow in his stead as each day she felt more and more like his Luna.

"Do you know where they're working today, Mandy?" Metas asked as they came through the rushing water and out into the night.

"Ajax was on chopping detail, and Joss and Jyriah were supposed to be digging today," she answered proudly at his side as she stayed in stride with him.

"Could you go fetch Joss? I'll go retrieve Ajax. I need them both immediately," Metas asked with anxiety rising in his chest.

Myranda didn't like that. Metas was never anxious unless things were dire. Whatever this thing was that he had just talked about, it was bad enough to shake her rock of a mate.

"Immediately, my Alpha" she replied with love and respect and gave him a bow.

"Don't do that...I hate when you bow," he said with a soft head shake.

"You didn't hate it earlier..." she quipped in hopes it would make him smile, but instead he seemed to have taken it as an insult or slight that they had been interrupted from earlier, and he frowned.

"Mandy, I'm sorry..." he started.

"What? No, silly - that was supposed to make you smile," she replied with furrowed brows and leaned in to nudge her nose against his. "Sweetheart, it was a joke. I'm trying to lighten you up a little. We've overcome so much - it's too late to feel as dire as you do now."

"Let me just get my head in order and I can laugh later. I cannot stress the danger those little capsules are. They wiped out each other to near extinction a long time ago with these things. Magic or not, we don't have powerful enough projections to be able to fend off the fall-out of that weaponry. It kills all it touches, and when it spreads, it infects the land like a virus. Thing wither and die, they morph, they change into something hideous or deadly. It makes the literal grounds of the earth soaked in chaos and death, and there is no way to take it out without powerful magic. It's our job to protect the earth, Mandy. This will end that job." Metas explained as his golden eyes searched her 'white' and gold one with worry. His fear was so deep that it pierced her chest with pain.

"Do you think they will know how to use it?" Myranda asked.

"I don't know. I'm hoping someone will - because while Cassandra had good intel, it's not enough for me to be able to sleep at night peacefully. I know Joss knows a lot about history, and Ajax has had more access to the castle than anyone other than me. I don't know what we're going to do to stop them - but we're going to have to." Metas answered with a grave tone that made her shiver.

This was kind of an add-on to the previous chapter. Since it was nearly 1K in words, I didn't want to make the other one too long. Reading online and mobile is so much different than books, so it can be harder to bookmark something.

I'd use a light mechanical pencil to underline where I left of so I didn't have to re-read the same lines over and over....

anyway - if you'd rather I just post an extra-long chapter, I'm down! Just let me know. :D

Thank you so much for reading! My your day be blessed, your feet be agile, and things go your way!
