War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

Lyrica

Lyrica had seen it all. She had been following those loser goons all through the forest as they tore apart the earth and trees looking for Metas and his group.

She wasn't sure that she was thinking - the ghoulish woman had never had an interest in anyone or anything before, but she felt like she knew all of the survivors who lived out here, for she watched over them like one would watch a bunch of characters in a show.

Plus, she really did mean it when she promised Metas she would serve him....but what was she supposed to do now?

The mis-matched abomination frowned at the two lovers who were bound in chains and ropes, unable to grasp one another's hands, and callously parted from the other as their remains had been disrespected.

Once they went out earshot, Lyrica floated down to the couple and reached out to shake Metas gently. She gasped and recoiled her fingers. She had felt death before - hell, she'd felt things die in her hands...but... this was different. It was personal somehow.

"Okay come on you two, get up. This is just an act, right? ...Right?" Lyrica asked and sat on her knees and in the cooling pool of blood.

Usually freshly spilled blood smelled good - but this was foul. She hated it.

"My Alpha - my Luna - come on... this isn't funny.... I wanted to play pranks on you, and I was absolutely going to strong-arm my way into your wedding."

"Ah..." Lyrica let out with disappointment as neither of them moved - not even to breathe shallowly.

She really liked them. She liked all of them....and Jyriah was like a big brother in a way to her now - and the thought of him being upset, only made her sadder.

"This isn't right..."

The muscles on her face only tugged her lips down harder as it really began to set in that her pseudo-family members were dead.

Old movies from the human's time started to play into her head, and it filled her chest up with more emotions as she finally understood what some of those 'heart-wrenching' scenes were supposed to feel like.

She had known no one - even though she had lied about having a brother and parents - all she had really wanted were those two things...and in a way... well...

"...Myri..." Lyrica asked pathetically and looked over to Myranda's open eyes and broken jaw as her gaze stared blankly forward.

"....Metas..." She added with sorrow.

"This...This isn't right..." Lyrica repeated again and looked around as though someone were playing a mean trick on her.

"This is garbage. This isn't at all what the humans made things out to be.... Don't the good guys win? Aren't you the good guys?" Lyrica started to sob now as she rambled on in hopes it would make her feel better.

"It's not fair! They were the good guys!" She shouted in rage and looked around to an invisible audience, as though someone could do something.

"Fuck you, humans! Your stories are lies! Your stories are utter lies!"

Lyrica covered her face and let out a wail of pain that was pure and sad. She had never cried once in her life -- not like this.

This was something real. She had lost something she wanted for so long...the wolves even let her help from time to time. They knew her. She knew them...and now... Now she didn't belong again.

"Not. Fair!" She let out again and filled the palms of her hands with tears to the brim that they started to run down her forearms and drip off of her elbows. Her cries were guttural and raw as she mourned the loss of everything she had finally found.

Lost in the darkness of her own sorrow, she hadn't even noticed the light shining below her. In fact, it wasn't until she took in a breath and stopped to wipe her eyes that she finally saw the more miraculous thing - all of the blood that had pooled on the ground was shimmering like a rainbow. Spectrums and sparkles of little lights danced across the plasma as though it were showing a magical, starry sky.

"What?" Lyrica was terrified. She had no idea what was going on- or what this even was. She looked around for the source of this magical interaction, but saw only the flakes of snow drifting down.

Bewitched, her eyes beheld as the rivers of life belonging to Myranda and Metas slid back inside their open throats like a receding wave, and as soon as it was all back inside their skins, the same color light closed the once gaping wounds, and then disappeared into both of the bodies.

"...M...Myranda? ...Metas?" Lyrica spoke shakily and then held her breath to see if anything would happen.

"Wh...Hmmm?" Myranda let out lazily and looked around like she had awoken from a long sleep.

"I...what?" Metas muttered out confused as his blurry vision started to center itself.

"No way..." Lyrica gasped with excitement and reached out to start gnawing on the metallic chains, and the ropes that bound her friends. "I cah beleeh eyor ahiye!"

"Lyrica... what.. what's going on?" Metas asked as he sat up once she had loosened his bindings.

"I have no idea- but it was so cool. You guys were all dead, and I was all sad, and then I started crying - but not like the crying I've ever felt before - but... I don't know...like..real crying? Then, this light started to shine, and all your blood went back into your body like I asked it to!"

Myranda didn't even say anything, but she hugged the 'abomination' tightly and started to cry a little.

"Oh~" the young creature let out in delight. She had never been hugged before - and now she understood why humans did it so much in the shows she watched. It was awkward at first, but soon her weak hold turned into a stronger one as the two 'sisters' held onto one another happily.

"Lyrica...I think you're part unicorn..." Metas said with amazement and clapped his giant paw on her back. "No one will ever be allowed to call you something ugly ever again, your heart is beautiful."

"A..u..unicorn...but how?" Lyrica asked and hiccuped a bit as she pulled away from Myranda to wipe her turquoise tears from her face.

"You said you were made up of many parts, yes? One of those must be from a unicorn - and it must be the heart. Only unicorn tears can bring back the dead - and must come from true, real sorrow...and I am touched you care for us so." Metas spoke with a gleam in his eyes that looked like tears.

"Well, duh...you guys actually let me stay here....and you like me. You let me help, and you don't run scared from me. You're like family...." Lyrica sniffled and once more wiped her face.

"From this day forth, you are family. This is your home as much as ours." Myranda said, and smiled when Metas followed up her words with affirmation.

"...This is the best day of my life.....I mean... other than you two dying... that was bad..." she said and smiled as new happy tears replaced the sad, and relief flooded her soul.

It was nice to finally have a family.
