Because the doctor said that a familiar presence in the room would boost the donor's morale and sending Bryan there would probably make him feel awkward rather than reassure him.

Though I am not saying that it wasn't awkward for me either but you could say that I am the best option between me and Bryan since Rupert is late for some reason.
