Twenty years later...
"Condolences, Miss Alice," said a woman from the neighborhood as she shook Alice's hand.
Alice lowered her head in acknowledgement, refraining from saying 'thank you' as it is customary when receiving condolences.
Vinz and his beloved Lily had passed away in their prime.
Alice caught sight of Alison placing a bouquet of carnations on her parents' freshly covered grave, a symbol of deep admiration and gratitude.
Quietly, Alice approached Alison, who was wearing a white dress and large sunglasses covering her eyes.
Well, everyone was wearing white since that was what Vinz said in his last will.
Alison didn't need to look to know who was standing beside her.
"I thought it only happened in Hollywood films like 'The Notebook'," Alice said calmly, her gaze fixed on the red-soiled grave. "You know, taking your final breath next to the one you love at the same time as if you were just going to sleep."
