Host

[You have cleared the first calamity.]

The survivors slowly raised their bodies and looked at the horizon. The skies had now become a habitat for dragons and such creatures. The buildings and infrastructure of Seoul had been destroyed. It was still hard to believe.

"W-What the hell...!"

A Pterodactyl flew towards the survivors at a tremendous speed.

"U-Uwah it's coming!"

Of course, I knew it wouldn't approach us. I simply looked at the pterodactyl that were roaming the skies. The creatures were sometimes called Sky terror. They were later classified as grade 4 monsters in 'The Doomed Regressor'.

It flew past as at the same speed it approached us with. Some survivors got scared and fell to the ground while some had already adjusted themselves with the reality. Park Hyungseok was looking down at the dead bodies and had a grim expression on his face. He wasn't yet aware of the role he would play.

[The paid settlement has been delayed due to an unexpected error.]

That was new. I looked down on the body of Park Jiho that was lying in the pool of blood near me. All that remained of him were his legs and torso. Park Jiho was suppose to live. He was suppose to be an antagonist later down the story. My intervention changed the original course, by killing an important element of the story I changed a part of the story. that explained why there was an unexpected error.

If my memory served me right, those that supported Park Jiho would be furious at his death. Were they here? No, they were in the sky.

The pterodactyls flew high in the sky before disappearing into the clouds. As long as we were protected by this barrier we wouldn't be harmed.

[The paid settlement has begun.]

I had a weird attribute, separation? What did it mean by that? The attribute description didn't seem to work for some reason. I was excited about my class that was currently in decision. Maybe I would get something cool like necromancer or swordsman? Whatever it was I hoped it would be useful.

The loud footsteps that were approaching me interrupted my thoughts and I turned my head to see a familiar face.

"Haneul-ssi..."

"Yoo Mia, how are you feeling." Yoo Mia had survived the first calamity. According to the game both of us should've died, but we didn't. My actions caused the deviation from the original story line. It wouldn't cause any unforseen consequences...right? It was a scary thought

"I'm still trying to compose myself...

Right. Not everyone was like me or those twins who adjusted to this world quickly. I stood up from the ground and approached the survivors. Yoo Mia and Park Hyungseok had survived, the bug boy survived as well. There were a few more people that survive... I didn't want the details of how they did it.

[The barrier is no more indestructible.]

The four pygmys that upheld the barrier disappeared into thin air and an irritatingly familiar voice could be heard from the sky behind me.

[Hrmm, Nice to meet you all!]

The pygmy was back. He was more energetic for some reason, did he find the massacre amusing?

[You've all gotten the rewards by now, right? It's time to begin the host selection event.]

It was here. The most important event in the entire game that determined whether you'd live or not. Host selection event.

[Some Lunals are looking at you.]

Lunals, they were the celestial beings that participated in this tragedy. The beings responsible for all of it. Originally there were 10 ancient Lunals that were responsible for the birth of the others. The ancient Lunals were legendary mythology beings but 'he' didn't find that out late into his regressions.

But the one thing not even the pygmys were aware of. The 11th Ancient one. The Lunal that was responsible for the regressions. The one that was outcast and banished from the plane where the other Lunals existed. He chose the protagonist as his host but not much was ever revealed about him, not even in the final regression.

A screen appeared in front of us. There were a list of several Lunals that were interested in choosing us as their hosts.

Surprisingly I had 5 that were interested in me. That was cool, right? the protagonist started of with only 4... I felt a bit happy.

"Haneul-ssi, what do I do?"

"Just choose what you think is right."

There wasn't a certain criteria for what you could choose. Of course it'd be troublesome if she ended up choosing a garbage Lunal.

[Host selection event.]

[The Lunal of Earth is asking you to be their host.]

[The Ancient Lunal of Nature is asking you to be their host.]

[The Lunal of Darkness is asking you to be their host.]

[The Ancient Lunal of Hell flames is asking you to be their host.]

[The Lunal of Necromancy is asking you to be their host.]

My jaw dropped as I read the names of the Lunals interested in me. I wasn't seeing things, right? two ancient Lunals from the get go, and the normal Lunals were high tier too. Was this the moment my luck was finally blossoming? I was almost tempted to choose one of the options.

[30 seconds are left until the event is over.]

The survivors finished with their choices. Some had confused looks while some were proud of what they chose.

The pgymy stared at the screen in front of him, his eyes widened. [Hrmm, it looks like someone made an interesting choice.]

I didn't choose. It was because of something only I would know. The grim reality of choosing a lunal was overtime you would lose your sense of being and become an incarnation for your lunal. That is, if your integration reaches 100%. There were a few Lunals of the absolute good system that blessed their hosts with crazy powers on complete integration but others chose to inhabit their host's body.

"Haneul-ssi, did you finish choosing?"

What should I say...? It would be disadvantageous later on if people found out I never chose anyone.

"Yes, I'm satisfied with my choice."

I chose to lie. I thought about asking Yoo Mia her lunal but would she reveal such important information? I chose to not do it.

[The second calamity will soon begin. I won't tell you all what to do, your survival depends on you. Although I would advise moving away from here.]

The pygmy disappeared into the air as he finished speaking. He left us with a mild warning, a warning that most people wouldn't be aware of. I decided to pour all of my coins into my strength and endurance.

"What do we do now?"

I thought about the question for a long while. The doomed regressor had become reality. Most people wouldn't be aware of it, the most important thing was hoarding artifacts and weapons. But there was something more important than that. I decided to pick up the weapon in front of me.

"Park Hyungseok-ssi."

"Hm? Who are you?"

"I'm Kim Haneul. Did you receive any news from your unit?"

"No... I haven't gotten anything."

This was the opportunity I had been waiting for. The sad reality was his unit had already been decimated. Of course he wouldn't find it out until the seventh calamity. But for now that was irrelevant, I had to get Park Hyungseok.

"How about joining me? Until you get a word from your unit. Park Hyungseok-ssi looks like he'll be a great help."

I decided to throw in a compliment at the end. He had to take the bait...

"Until my unit does something... Alright! I'll join you Kim Haneul-ssi."

Park Hyungseok was an easy person. The protagonist was able to get him to join his cause due to his naivety. Despite his bear like build he was a rather soft hearted man that suffered from ptsd. I just had to be cautious to not trigger his ptsd.

"Haneul-ssi, do you have a plan?"

Yoo Mia and Park Hyungseok spoke at the same time. A plan... Of course, I had one. My thoughts were clear. If the original development was followed 'he' would be making his way to the Seoul national museum. I wasn't a protagonist like him, so I couldn't charge into the calamities head first without any thoughts about my well being.

For now I decided to add another member to my team.

"Kid, what's your name?"

The boy stared into my eyes with a dead face. I stared back into his eyes and it felt as if I was gazing into the abyss... Who was this boy?

"Lee Hanho."

"Hanho-ah, will you journey with me?"

The boy's face lightly lit up at the mention of the word 'journey', was he a chuuni...? It would be troublesome if he was one. He nodded his head multiple times until I signaled him to stop. He was too happy...

I took out my smartphone and opened maps. The best destination was the museum. My hopes were shattered as I saw the 'no signal' sign. By now electricity would've been cut off in major parts of the city.

Dammit, I had to navigate by myself.

I was about to take my next step towards the museum until I finally got the message I had been waiting for.

[Class decision has finished.]

I loudly gulped and clenched my fist. This was the deciding moment. My fate hanged on the next messages that would follow.

[The Cosmos are announcing your Class.]

[Your Class is 'Pro Gamer'.]

....WHAT?!
