Fighting Fate

You were as still as a statue and your pulse matched that of a rabbit's. However, despite the fear that crept through your mind and body, you refused to show the Yakuza leader how scared you are and only showed a calm expression as you looked up at Kai Chisaki.

"My apologies on behalf of my daughter, Heroes." The leader of the Shie Hassaikai says formally. "She gets carried away with her games sometimes and hurts herself. Such a troublemaker, this one."

You noticed Deku's facial expression. "It can't be..." was written all over his face. You put the hood and mask on your friend. You're not supposed to know anything about each other... If Chisaki finds you three suspicious, it's only going to make Nighteye's job more difficult.

"It's okay." You smiled at the masked man. "It was just an accident."

"That awesome mask of yours..." Lemillion steps in. "You must be a member of the Shie Hassaikai, right? You're famous around these parts!"

"That's right. Pay no attention to the mask... I'm just sensitive to dirt."

During the conversation between Kai Chisaki and Lemillion, your upperclassman told him that the three of you were students in training, but he stayed on guard and didn't mention Nighteye's name. When Lemillion told you and Deku that the three of you should get going, the little girl named Eri gripped the jacket of your hero costume.

"Please... please don't go..." Eri whimpered out.

Tears welled up in her eyes and she was trembling in fear. Seeing this innocent girl plead for help, you wrapped your arms around her and hold her close. You and Deku knew you had to act for her sake.

"Umm..." Deku speaks to Chisaki. "Your daughter... she appears to be frightened by something..."

"It's because I just scolded her."

Lemillion tried to get you two to stop, but you both ignore him.

"But these bandages don't seem like the kind you would get just from playing around..." You looked at Eri. She's clutching on to you, not wanting to let go.

"She happens to fall down a lot..."

"A little girl like this, shaking and frightened without saying a word... that doesn't seem very normal to me." Deku argued.

That's right... This isn't normal.

"Please don't impose your idea of normal on other's families." Chisaki is clearly getting annoyed by you and Deku's prying.

"People have all different types of dispositions, after all." Lemillion intervenes.

Togata wants you both to stop prying and leave, but that will only make him more suspicious.

With a frightened child in front of them, Heroes can't look the other way. When we don our costumes in the streets... We are heroes!

"What are you doing to this little girl?" You and Deku demanded an answer.

Seeing that you and your friend aren't going to turn a blind eye, Chisaki puts his hands up and sighs.

"All of you Heroes are so perceptive... all right."

You were surprised by Chisaki's compliance.

"It's an embarrassing topic... I don't want to talk about it out in the open... could you follow me this way?"

Before you all followed Kai Chisaki into an alleyway, Togata gives you a nod that mentally tells you to let him deal with it if anything happens. With the little girl in your arms, the three of you followed the masked man down the alleyway.

"You see, I've been quite worried about Eri recently... no matter what I say to her, all she does is defy me."

"Raising a child... can be hard, huh?" Deku says.

"Indeed. They're hard to understand, children. Especially when they must be seriously thinking about what kind of person they'll become... What kind of person they can become."

Without any warning, Eri jumps out of your arms and runs to the Yakuza leader. You want to case after her, but Lemillion blocked you and Deku from doing so.

"Oh, are you done with your tantrum now?" Chisaki asked the girl.

Eri nodded without saying a word.

"Er- umm.... Eri...?" Deku was at a lost for words and you just stood there in shock.

"She's always like this. I'm sorry. Thanks for going out of the way to listen to my worries. I'm sorry for causing you three such a burden. Well then, good luck with your work."

You and Deku can only watch in disbelief as Kai Chisaki lead Eri away.

"W-wait... Eri!!"

"Eri!! Why..."

"Don't chase them." Lemillion held you and Deku back. "Did you not notice? He just showed his killer intent. That's how he got her to follow along. If we chase too far, he'll become even harder to catch. Let's respect Sir's orders."

You  don't know when you reported back to Sir Nighteye with the two boys. You mostly remembered the frightened girl with the bandaged arms and legs, the pouring rain  that matched your regret and the bitter taste in your mouth as your first day of your work studies ended in a flash.

At school, the murkiness in your head kept getting worse. You kept making mistakes in class and Izuku was hardly focusing in class. Neither of you wanted this to continue on like this, so with the assistance of Miss Midnight, you both met up with your parents while they were jogging on school grounds.

"Mom. Dad. Did you both know all along?" You questioned your parents as you jogged with them and Izuku. "The fact that Togata was a candidate to become the next wielder of One For All?"

Neither of them said a word which only proves that what you heard from your childhood friend is true.

"You knew about that, didn't you...?" Izuku asks. "Why didn't you tell us anything?"

"It seems... there was a need to tell you after all." All Might spoke.

"Of course there was!" The two of you exclaimed.

"All of a sudden I'm being hit with this sudden truth, and yet I'm forced to just be denied without knowing anything!?" Izuku shouted. "Above all, neither I nor Himawari have any idea what you and Hope's intentions are, All Might!"

"He's right! For most of my life, I had no clue about One For All or what your hidden intentions are..." You desperately add. "Every time I ask the both of you for answers or at the very least an explanation, you always change the subject or brush me off... and because of that, my mind have been drowning in doubt and insecurities! It's fine if you don't want to tell me everything, but there are some things that are too important for me not to know about! You have to stop keeping me out of the loop like this... Why did you and Sir Nighteye end your partnership?! When and why did Togata become a candidate to inherit your power? Look at me! I'm not saying this as another civilian or one of your students... I'm saying this as your daughter and as your family!! I want to know everything! Izuku, too!"

Your parents stopped jogging and you and Izuku followed suit. You stood there breathing heavily as the cool breeze blew through your red hair.

"Himawari..." Izuku stares at you with a frown as you held back the tears that threatened to fall.

This isn't the first time you letted your emotions explode like this, but when such intense emotions are because of the rocky relationship with your parents, he's reminded how broken and lonely you were in the inside for all these years. That fact only broke his heart.

"I'm sorry." Kami Yagi spoke. "We figured telling you the story wouldn't benefit either of you at all, but... do you really still want to hear it?"

"It'll benefit us a lot more than keeping it a secret." You answered.

"You better not regret it." All Might says without turning around to face you and Izuku.

"We won't!"

With that said by your childhood friend, your parents told you the story of Sir Nighteye and why the partnership between him and your parents ended. Originally, Nighteye was a huge fan of All Might, and your father had a rule that he nor Hope wouldn't take in any sidekicks. However, Nighteye was incredibly persistent and your mother was very persuasive, so your father finally broke down and let him in. Hope then took in another sidekick named Lumine and they all were active as a team for about five years. Nighteye's physical abilities weren't all that impressive, but he took on a supporting role with Lumine as your parents fought on the front lines. You did remember Lumine. She had a wonderful personality and she always made you smile whenever you were down. Her Quirk allowed her to heal anyone just by touching them and focusing her energy. The four of them got along quite well. Unfortunately, Lumine died when you were little. She sacrificed herself to save several civilians and Hope. Then, six years ago, Sir Nighteye and your parents dissolved their partnership due to the injuries they received from AFO. While your mother was in a coma, your father woke up first and ignored his own injuries. Sir Nighteye pleaded with All Might to not push himself too hard and retire, but he ignored his sidekick. Sir Nighteye then admitted to using Foresight on your parents and confronted your father about the future. "If you keep going like this, you and Hope will clash with a villian, and head towards a gruesome demise... one so terrible that it cannot even be put into words!" Is what he said. And from there, they had a huge fight.

"I stopped doing hero work and watched over Hikari, Toshinori continued being the Symbol of Peace, and Nighteye opened his own hero agency." Your mother said. "Principal Nezu recommended Mirio Togata to Toshinori, but... I told him about Izuku and he ended up meeting him before he was able to meet with Togata."

"We really didn't want to say all of this..." Your father says. "Because Young Midoriya was my fan and you are my precious daughter. I'm so sorry."

You and Izuku stared at All Might and Hope in disbelief. Then, it cut through you like a knife. Up until then and now, you had a feeling. For some reason or another, a vague feeling... after all, everyone dies eventually, but... hearing the words from your parents cut through you like a knife, bringing to life a hard reality.

"You both... are going to... die..."

Your mind filled with despair after hearing such a revelation, and you knew Izuku felt the same.

"When I met you and made up my mind to transfer my power to you, I let Nighteye know." Your father continued as he and your mom started jogging again. "But he was opposed to it, and that only drove us farther apart. Insisting that I was making a fool of myself, he took it upon himself to begin cultivating Young Togata, who he believed to be the truly appropriate successor."

"Wait a minute!!" Izuku called out. "That aside... I said wait!"

Hope and All Might came to a halt.

"When Nighteye used his Foresight, when did he say it would happen?! Can't the prediction be changed any more?"

"He said it would happen in six to seven years." Hope answers. "There's a margin of error in his estimation of far-off events, but there's no changing what he sees in his Foresight."

"Six to seven..." Your eyes widened. The look of devastation on your face matched Izuku's. "Wait...! That means either this year or the next, doesn't it...?! You're kidding... no... Why?! How could it be... No, Mom. Dad. You have to live. Both of you!" Your emerald eyes became watery. "I swore that I would become a hero you can be proud of. A hero you can rely on! I want you to see me become that hero... and I want us to live as a family!"

"Do you remember the promise I made at the Sports Festival?" Izuku asked loudly as you wiped away a couple tears. "Me and Himawari haven't been able to fulfill our promise. All Might, Hope, you both have to live for Himawari's sake...! You have to live to see the moment when I-- no. When we can tell the world "I am here!"

"Midoriya. Hikari. When I heard the Foresight, I convinced the love of my life to retire and I pushed her away so that I'm the only one who faces that demise..." Your father says solemnly. "That time when I fought AFO at Kamino, I thought that was going to be the moment I die." He turns around and gazes at you. "But then I thought of you... my bright, kindhearted only child, who day after day made me and your mother proud! You accepted Young Midoriya as my successor despite the secrecy and gave him your support. And day after day, I remember you and your mother and I whispered to myself to keep on living for both of your sakes. And then, Young Midoriya's mom told me, "Live on for Kami and your daughter! And I'll allow you to protect and nurture my son!" And even now I am clawing on! You. Kami. Young Midoriya. You all changed me!! I am alive!" All Might raises his arm and changes into a smaller muscle form. "With this hand of mine, I will twist fate into whatever shape I like!!"

Tears threatened to fall from your eyes and Izuku's after hearing such inspiring speech.

"I'm going to stick by your side no matter what, Toshinori." Hope speaks. "I'll twist fate with you."

"Yes, Kami. Telling you to stay away from me would only fall on deaf ears." All Might reverts back to his original form and coughs out blood. "But after turn after turn, we've arrived at the conclusion. In the end, everything is still turning out exactly as Nighteye said it would. And now, I'm ashamed to look him in the face... and so..."

"Dad. Mom..." You interrupted your father. "I'm going to become stronger. I'll gain experience, improve my technique, and come up with useful ultimate moves. If fate is telling you that a villian is going to send you both to an early grave, then I'll just have to drown fate and turn it into a pile of ash!"

"All Might, Hope, we promise you." Izuku declared.

Both you and Izuku extended an arm with a clenched fist towards Hope and All Might as the two of you made a vow.

"No matter what happens to you, we'll be there to help fight fate!"

"I'll try my best not to cause you both any trouble." All Might says before giving Izuku a fist bump.

Your mother also gives you a fist bump.

"The future isn't always set in stone, so we won't accept such a horrible fate so easily!"

You returned the smile. Reassurance filled your mind after knowing that two of the people you care about are going to fight for a better future. A future where they both live and watch you grow.

"Ah- Wait a minute."

Your attention shifted to Izuku.

"Can't one of you just get Nighteye to use his Foresight again?! Go and make peace with him so you can have him see whether or not the future has changed!!"

"That would just be way too convenient for..." Kami hesitated.

"This is a matter of life and death! Me and Himawari will go talk to him for you!"

"Eh!?" You were against your friend's idea.

"Wait, Young man. Think about Nighteye's feelings for a moment..."

"Dad is right! And the last thing I want to do is upset Nighteye!"

Right around when All Might and Hope were telling you about their secret, the state of affairs was gradually developing.
