Welcome Back

"ONE!" Noah exhaled a gush of air, his hair falling just as gravity took hold back of his body. The impact made a soft thump noise, bothering none of his ward mates.

He was currently using his free time, which was quite, to test upon his current condition.

'Body weakness - can't even walk properly. Check.

Can levitate things - magical abilities top-notch. Check.

I will get a wheelchair. Check.

Well, just call me professor Xavier from now on!'

He laughed hysterically from his own joke, doing his best interpretation of a mentally unstable man. Some might say he had gone insane, and perhaps they would be right, but at the moment he was truly happy. And the reason for that was simple...

His mana capacity jumped from 40 all the way up to 5000! How absurd was that?! That's why he could levitate himself - his overall weight was 50 kilograms and doing some boring math, one would arrive at that result.

How couldn't he be happy? After all, now he had the mana capacity of a 2nd-year student and one that practiced every day at that. Of course, everything was estimating it - considering the complexity of the spells they practiced and how many times one would practice in two years in Hogwarts.

Of course, his body disability was one of the trade-offs. When he circular his mana 3 days ago, it went inside like a flood, which in turn did a lot of damage to him. He basically attacked himself with unstable mana.

Thankfully, in the process of destroying his own cells, he was able to form a pattern to the flow of magic. After a few seconds, it stabilized and settled down, running along his blood vessels with a timely rhythm.

It was quite ironic, for the same mana that almost killed him, in the end, was his savior.

Past this point in the explanation, everything becomes theory though. He stipulated that the mana aided in his cells' recovery, consequently mixing with it in the process. One of the main reasons for his belief in that theory is his ability to channel spells without a wand.

'And then I took 3 days to completely recover and come back to the world of the living.

Great, now I am officially an alchemical ingredient! Should I test with my blood and see what happens?'

"Noah!" Someone opened the door with a startle, sobbing along the way. It was his oldest sister.

'I can do that later.' He thought before addressing her.

"Lisa!" He smiled innocently.

"Y-you! Are you out of your mind? Wha- what were you thinking?" She displayed a pitiful appearance to her brother - eyes haggard and red, make-up all messed up and dried tears on her puffed cheeks. The whole event seemed to have taken a bigger toll on her than him in reality.

"Sorry." It was his only reply as he avoided eye-contact.

"Sob. Sob. It's fine, you are fine. We are fine. There is nothing to worry about." She sighed in relief before sitting on Noah's bed. She raised her arms, welcoming his tiny frame in her embrace. He, in turn, accepted the invitation, and the two of them stood there in silence for a few seconds. No words were needed at the moment, just the warmth of a brother and sister could say more than a thousand.

He caressed her back while she fondled his disheveled black hair, both lost inside their worlds.

'If I didn't do what I did with the other Noah, then I could say goodbye to moments like these. Of course, I am a liar, unscrupulous and scheming person, and perhaps I don't deserve this love. I mean, I've killed her real brother.

But I don't care, I've just said, didn't I? I have no morals, that's who I am.

Maybe I will never come to trust my family or rely on them. Albeit it is for the best, it still hurts. If I were to be truthful with myself, I've enjoyed trusting others. It was blissful, but it almost got me killed, and I won't die because of stupidity.

Killing the other one was necessary, as much as his presence was good.

For now, I can live with this facade while I can, and I will kill more to maintain it if necessary.'

A single tear fell down on his neck. It wasn't sadness though, Lisa was only happy that her brother was alive and well. Little did she know how wrong she was.
