Chapter 7
The bright lights of the interrogation room illuminated Jake's masked face as he lounged in his seat, his posture relaxed despite the gravity of the situation. Across from him sat Li Hui and Feng Jun, their expressions stern as they regarded him with suspicion.
"Allow me to introduce myself, I am an intelligence officer from the Strategic Defense Division of Stardragon," spoke Feng Jun.
"Division 13, Li Hui," introduced Li Hui. Both his expression and his manner of speech were stone cold.
"So, One, care to shed some light on why you've visited Han Xiao in Stardragon's territory?" Li Hui asked, her voice tinged with authority.
"How could I not visit him he's like a little brother to me" Jake answered laughing.
"And One isn't my real name just call me Jake."
"Explain why the Germinal Organization has a million dollar bounty on you and tell us everything you know." Li Hui asked.
"I'm pretty sure you asked the same questions to Han Xiao, so let's get on to the point, I did not like what they were doing and as a high ranking official of the organisation I knew a lot too.
So please stop with this nonsense.
As for the million dollar bounty I bombed two of their bases near the Stardragon border.
So I think you should thank me for my service.
Give me a map and I will mark the base locations."
Saying that Jake relaxed in his chair.
Jake marked the location of the bases in the map.
"So are you willing to co-operate with division 13.
But let me tell you we already have Han Xiao and he has given us quite the Intel on the organisation. So what can you offer?" Feng Jun asked.
"Well for starters I'm quite good at combat so....yeah that's all I got." Jake said.
"Plus I'm an Esper so you could use my help in your little teams and l know many other base locations." Jake said surprising the officers.
"Can you explain how your powers work." Li Hui asked.
"I can generate shields around me and in a 4 meter radius. That's my power and I think it will be quite useful in field missions." Jake said.
The two officers left Jake inside the interrogation room.
In the Intelligence directors office.
"What are your observations?" The director asked.
"His character is..... Unreliable. Everything is a joke to him" Li Hui answered.
" We sent a drone to check the locations he marked and there were destroyed remains of infrastructure under the ground and it was all burnt." The director confirmed that Jake was telling the truth.
"So what should we do with him." Feng Jun asked.
"Just assign him with the covert-ops squad Han Xiao is a member of. I will talk with the higher ups." The director said.
"What about Jake's living arrangements?" Feng Jun asked.
"Arrange an apartment near Han Xiao living space we have surveillance team already there and it will not take more personal. Bug the apartment too. Issue a phone just like Han Xiao's." The director said.
'da#mit, first Han Xiao. Now this guy plus he's far worse.' Feng Jun said in his mind.
Jake was kept in the interrogation room for half a day.
The room opened and what Feng Jun saw was Jake sleeping like a baby. He woke him up.
"Get up, let's see your new apartment.
And you are assigned to the group Han Xiao is on. You will officially be a member tomorrow." Feng Jun informed Jake.
Before Jake could reply his head was covered and taken into a vehicle.
"Guys this was unnecessary....." Jake said out loud.
The next day dawned bright and clear, and Jake wasted no time getting ready for the day ahead. After slipping into his usual attire, he sauntered out of his apartment, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he made his way to the workshop where Han Xiao worked. Bursting through the door with his characteristic flair, Jake greeted Han Xiao with a cocky grin. "Hey there, partner in crime," he quipped, leaning against a workbench. "Guess what? We're officially squad buddies now."
Han Xiao glanced up from his work, his expression a mixture of curiosity and amusement. "Squad buddies, huh? Sounds like the start of a beautiful friendship," he replied, a hint of sarcasm in his tone.
Jake chuckled, his grin widening. "Oh, you have no idea," he retorted, winking playfully. "But seriously, I've got some news. Remember those Division 13 Intelligence officers, Li Hui and Feng Jun? Well, let's just say they were dying to get to know me better."
Han Xiao raised an eyebrow, setting down his tools to give Jake his full attention. "Interrogation, huh? Sounds like a blast," he remarked dryly.
"What did you tell them?" Han Xiao asked.
"Enough to get them to join me in a squad, oh I forgot I'm an Esper so don't act surprised when I use my power. Okay." Jake said and continued walking.
"Wait you are an Esper what's your power?" Han asked.
It's the power to generate shield that's all. It's the main reason why they let me join the squad.
With a shared laugh, Jake and Han Xiao left the workshop behind and headed towards the Division 13 headquarters, ready to embark on their latest adventure as squad mates.
As Han Xiao and Jake strolled towards the sleek car parked on the street, Jake couldn't resist the opportunity to inject a little excitement into the mundane moment. With a mischievous glint in his eye, he rapped his knuckles against the window, causing the agents inside to jump in surprise. "Hey there, Division 13's finest!" Jake exclaimed with a cheeky grin. "Fancy meeting you here. Mind giving us a lift to the Headquarters? My feet are tired, and Han Xiao here is too pretty to be walking around in the sun."
The agents exchanged a skeptical glance before rolling down the window, their expressions a mix of confusion and caution. "How did you know who we are?" one of them asked, suspicion coloring his tone.
Jake leaned in closer, his grin widening. "Let's just say I have a knack for sniffing out trouble," he replied cryptically, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "And it's not every day you see a couple of secret agents loitering around in a fancy car. So, what do you say? Want to be the heroes who saved the day by giving us a ride?"
After a moment of hesitation, the agents exchanged another look before relenting, nodding towards the backseat for Jake and Han Xiao to hop in. As they settled into the car, Jake couldn't help but chuckle to himself, relishing in the thrill of turning an ordinary encounter into a mini-adventure. "So, what's the deal with you guys anyway?" he quipped, breaking the silence with his trademark irreverence. "Running errands for Division 13, or just cruising around looking mysterious?"
I hope everybody enjoyed it....
