Chapter 29: The Proof
Aurelie stopped in her tracks at the sound of her name.
Looking over her shoulder, she saw Jace get out of a shiny new SUV.
“You didn’t tell me Tobin was sick,” Aurelie said sadly. “Is he alright?”
Tobin’s friend nodded.
“He went in while I was at the farm. I didn’t know until I came back.” Jace explained, “I didn’t call you when I found out because you were firm in not seeing him. I was respecting your wishes. He will be alright. It was stress induced and he needed some strong meds to make him sleep for a few days, but he’s right back to being the same old solemn Tobin we all know.”
Aurelie felt tears fill her eyes. “Did I cause that?”
Jace raised his eyebrows. “Tobin was under a lot of stress already. This thing with you just sent him over the edge.”
He suddenly looked at his hand and held it out to her.
“Here,” Jace said. “I promised I would get you proof.”
