Chapter 28: Two Sides to Every Story

Tobin’s flower arrangement took up most of the kitchen table.

Kyle looked at the note in his sister’s hand.

“He may have a good choice in flowers,” he said, tilting his head towards Aurelie. “But he certainly has work to do on his relationship skills.”

“What would you like us to do with these?” Aurelie’s mother asked, gently touching the evergreen branches.

With a sigh, Aurelie looked at the flowers and slowly shook her head. “Just keep them, I guess.”

Her father frowned. “Are you sure?”

Aurelie nodded. The flowers were pretty anyway, and with the touch of evergreen boughs, they reminded her of her weekend with Tobin in the forest.

Telling her family she was tired, Aurelie went to her childhood bedroom and sat at her old desk. Staring at the mirror, she took in her tired, puffy eyes and messy red hair, which together made her look crazy.

A small laugh escaped her lips. It was immediately replaced by a frown.
