Chapter 24: When Darkness Falls
Aurelie was thrown forward when the car slammed to a stop, but was held tightly by her seatbelt.
Tobin cursed before leaping from the car and charging the photographer who had jumped in front of his car. The mob scattered for the moment, but like a swarm of bees, they regrouped and came back stronger than ever.
“Are you crazy?” Tobin grabbed the photographer with one powerful hand. “Are you stupid? You could have been run over.”
Aurelie went to get out of the car, but Tobin turned in a moment.
“No!” he yelled, holding up his hand. “Stay in the car, Aurie!”
He shoved the photographer who stumbled and fell to the ground. Cameras were busy, as well as cell phones.
“Get off my property!” Tobin continued to shout. He was getting angrier by the minute.
“Tobin, let’s just go,” Aurelie called out.
A man beside the car leaned forward and began asking Aurelie questions through her half-open window.
