New beginnings

A bright light shone on my face and I groaned. I opened my eyes to see the bottom of a dark cave with light shining through a hole in the side. I stood up and winced. I felt bruised and battered all over. Irene was curled up beside me. I crouched down and nudged her. She didn't move. I felt worry begin to fill me as I nudged her harder. She eventually stirred and her eyes opened. I breathed a reluctant sigh of relief and looked around. We weren't alone….more little bodies were littered across the floor. I stood up, absentmindedly pulling Irene to her feet with me. She wrapped her small arms around me as tightly as she could sniffling in fear. I held her for a moment before pushing her away and grabbing her hand. I walked over to one of the people, a rather large little girl in an extravagant red and gold dress. She was decorated in sparkly jewelry and accessories that matched her fiercely red hair and milky white skin.

I poked her a few times with my foot. She began to stir after a few well placed kicks. I moved on to another, a boy In a rather odd looking outfit with stripes. He had long brown hair and light brown skin. I kicked him a few times. he moved after the third kick.

So did I.

"Don't you think thats rather rude?" A haughty voice spoke out in the darkness. It took a moment for my brain to process her words and I looked over to see the red headed girl smoothing out her exorbitant amount of clothes and jewelry.

I shrugged in response before kicking a boy with dirty blonde hair. He was covered an thick cotton cloth and wore thick brown boots. He had a long metal blade at his side. I was just about to kick him in the side when his hand shot out and I was pulled to the ground with a hand around my throat. I froze. The red headed girl laughed ridiculously loud, practically sobbing with laughter which was certainly not appreciated or helpful.

He scanned me quickly before letting go. I huffed and rubbed my neck as I glowered at him. Irene ran to me, patting my hair and looking at me worried. I stood up and pat her head.

"I'm ok rene." I said reassuringly.

The red head was shaking a little black boy wearing atrociously thin beige robes while the striped boy was checking on a small girl in a puffy dress. The blade Boy was peeking outside the cave cautiously. I went to look with him, and….well this is not anywhere near home.

The grass was blue and fluffy filled with clovers and bright colorful flowers. And huge black trees that loomed over a small path lit with bright white sun spots was all we could see.

I took a step outside and felt the cool wind on my face the smell of something sweet. Spices and crisp coldness filled the air.

"Woahhhh"I stunned voice echoed to my left. I looked over to see them all staring in shock at the scene. Irene grabbed my hand and I squeezed hers in turn.

"Where on gods earth are we?!" The red head said suddenly and the aww of the scene seemed to deflate. I turned to glower at her.

"What? I couldn't be the only one thinking it! It's cute and all but this place looks nothing like home, I've no idea how I got here and there seems to be no one who knows anything in sight. Isn't anyone else even a little concerned?!" She said waving her hands around as she spoke.

"Your right." The sword boy said suddenly. "We are all in danger. We have no supplies, knowledge, or help in a place we clearly know absolutely nothing about. Anything could be in those woods and we have no way to defend ourselves from it." He said crossing his arms over his chest.

"Well it seems to be about noon" mr robes said in a deep rumbly accent. "If we go now we can't try to seek help while the sun is high and return when the sun begins to lower." He suggested with a compromising smile.

"That seems like our best shot." Red head spoke up decidedly. "Urm knight…boy? And black boy, you should go." She said whilst waving them out twords the trees.

"Rowen. I'm called rowen." The blade boy said.

"And I am called adisa." The robed boy said with a chuckle.

They spoke for a moment before going off in search of help.

"Peasant, me and you will survey the area for anything dangerous or useful, if need be we will try and gather fire wood and look for food. The scholar will look after the little ones, keep track of supplies and insure everyone is unharmed."

I stared at her for a moment astonished that she was so willing to take charge but then registered that she had just called me a peasant. I stomped up behind her.

"My NAME is regina." I huffed. "The brown eyed girl is my sister, irene." She glanced at me and smiled.

"I am called felicity. It's a pleasure to make your aqaintence."she said cheerfully.

"Bervos" the stripe boy said as he guided the girls back inside. "And the blonde girl is Alice." He said gruffly pointing to the fidgeting girl in the puffy dress.

me and felicity walked around the cave. The cave was rather small and it was half buried underground like a hobbit cave. It was surrounded by Black, brown and dark blue trees. We found a bush full of odd looking berries that were a bright yellow color and a tree with long green pods on it.

I was terrified it was a snake tree, felicity threw a rock at it.

We found bright red flowers in a small field behind the cave and another path to the left that had been worn in by time. There were big flitting bugs that looked like weirdly long butterfly's and the chittering of crickets or something in the bushes. Felicity never seemed afraid and simply walked along mumbling to herself as she looked at every single thing we past. Suddenly something big moved behind a tree and I froze, a giant red dotted spider as big as my head moved from behind a black tree and suddenly i became very aware of the shuffling around that tree.

"Felicity…" I hissed watching the spider with wide eyes.

"What?" She said back quietly.

"Giant spider. There's a bunch of giant spiders here…" I said shuddering in fear.

She froze. Then flipped toward me and began quickly walking to me. She grabbed my hand with a steely look and dragged me back the way we came silently. After a few moments she looked back and grimaced. I flipped to look to and saw dozens of those stupid spiders dangling right above where we were standing. Cleverly hidden by the trees. Felicity sighed loudly and we kept walking.

"How come you weren't scared?" I ask quietly.

"I was absolutely terrified!" She hissed incredulously. We stared at each other for a moment.

"Well you sure didn't look scared!"

"Just because I don't freeze in the face of fear doesn't mean I'm not scared." She hissed.

I thought about that for a minute. She was probably right. I guess she's just more brave than me…probably better that way.

We walked back to the cave, gathering sticks and leaves in our arms as we walked. We weren't sure what was safe to eat so we didn't eat anything and just hoped the boys would find help soon.

The sticks and leaves were dropped in front of the caves opening and I strutted in to check on Rene. She was inspecting something on the cave wall with Alice. It turned out to be a small bug. I found it disgusting And told them to be careful before retreating to the stripe boy….bervos.
