The Laments of a Guilty Soul Eater

When Kai is pulled through a portal into nothingness, nothing seems to happen. Days, months, years, decades, nearly a century later, Kai is released from his prison. But something has changed. He no longer has a body, a form, and instead is a being of pure mental energies. To survive, he must feed on the crux of what makes us human- our emotions. A journey of small joys found in the ocean of stresses and sadnesses in life, and the eventual end of one beautiful thing leading to the birth of another. AUTHORS NOTES - The first volume (1-34) issues with the consistency of the actions of the main characters. The gap time taken between posting the final chapter of the first volume and the beginning of the second volume was to ensure these issues would be remedied for the rest of the novel. I personally think the ending of the first arc really makes up for all the issues with the novel, so you should totally give it a try!

Midseason Finale

Today was the day. The last game of the football season before finals. Mountain View high only needed to win this game to get a bye to the semi-finals. Kyle and Logan were sitting in the locker room 30 minutes to kickoff making idle chatter. Kai was watching, waiting for the chance to eat Kyle's excitement in private. Unfortunately, tensions were high, and the boys never gave eachother a minute alone to allow their doubts to intensify.

They would play this game as a team, and prepare for the game as a team as well. Such was the way of a solid team.

As the timer ticked down to 10, the boys left the locker room, seeing their opponents for the first time that night.

The school newspaper had said they were evenly matched, with a slew of statistics to support the data. The teams were both nearly undefeated, with only one loss under their belts. Mountain View High was supposed to have a better defense, and the opposing team a stronger offense. Although neither Kyle nor Kai knew how to read the statistics, they knew this would not be an easy game to win.

Kyle's excitement for what he knew would be incredible physical feats only grew as the clock ticked down. Somehow, he wasn't anxious at all.

As the starters finished warming up to watch the coin toss, Kyle clasped Logan's shoulder and spoke.

"Whether we win or lose, this is gonna be awesome, bro!"

Logan looked at him funnily before turning around and heading to the field.

The coin came up heads, meaning Kyle would start the game by kicking off.

When Kyle got in position, he suddenly noticed the stadiums were practically filled to the brim. He felt proud. All these people were here to watch him, after all.

He was the best of the god-damn best. Undefeatable, except for the times when he was defeated.

He breathed in, breathed out, a mask of cool confidence settling over his mind. Kyle was in game mode.

In, out, ready set HUT!

Kyle executed the kickoff perfectly, and the ball rocketed through the air and down the field. The runningback caught the ball, and the game was ON!

The crowd cheered as Mountain View High scored their first touchdown, breaching the opponents tight defense. However, when the ball changed hands, the hype quickly died down.

By the end of the second quarter, MVHS was down 7 to 14.

Kyle was still pretty excited, though. All of that running had gotten him real worked up.

After halftime, and an inspirational huddle, the team was back on the field. They managed to pull off a touchdown by the end of the quarter, but that only left them tied.

With two minutes left on the clock, the opposing team's running back crossed the 20 yard line when the MVHS linebacker tackled him, jarring the ball loose. Logan swooped in, snatching the ball, sprinting towards the opposite end zone. 50 yards down, the opposing team caught up to him, but with a skillful juke, Logan was able to make it out of the situation with the ball and score the touchdown for MVHS with 45 seconds on the clock.

The rest of the game was simply protecting their lead.

When the clock hit 0, the crowd cheered, waving pennants and blasting air horns.

Kyle, Logan, and the rest of their team walked off the field with smiles on their faces.

Tonight had been a good night.

For Becca, tonight had not been a good night.

No matter what she tried, she was still unable to take her mind off of the burning rage inside.

Kyle was out there, likely winning the football game of the season, and she was HERE. In her bedroom. All because that dumbass couldn't've just been chivalrous and begged for her back.

She should've been there! Cheering for him! Ready to join the group hug when they won! Or even better, console him when he lost.

Either way, Becca would've gotten to be closer to him.

But no. She wasn't on that field with Kyle. She was stuck in her room, unable to show up at any of his events.

The prettiest girl in the school not showing up to a football game!? The thought had seemed foreign and ridiculous until a few weeks ago when Kyle hadn't chased her heart like he had been supposed to.

Becca's nails dug into her palms. 'That man deserves whatever awful things god sends his way.'

Logan and Ashleighe sat in the McDonalds drive thru, Logan's arm wrapped around her shoulder.

He loved how close she was. Her warmth on his arm was comforting. It let him know she was there, alive and well.

He looked over at her. "I love you, babe. I love you so mu-"

}HOOOOONK{

Logan was startled out of his lovey-dovey mood when the car behind him got fed up with watching this fool sit there when there were literally no cars at the three drive-thru windows ahead.

Ashleighe laughed as she rubbed her shoulder. "That's gonna leave a bruise!"

Logan scratched the back of his neck with one hand while keeping his other hand on the wheel as he pulled forwards. "Sorry…." His voice came out even more meekly than usual, which was most definitely saying something.

He paid, pulled forwards, and grabbed their food before parking in the parking lot.

"So, babe, where would you like me to drive you?"

Twenty minutes later and Logan was asleep in his bed, his clothes from the game still on. Ashleighe lay next to him in her cheer uniform, cuddled up to him. Logan's arm was draped over her, and they both had slight smiles on their sleeping faces.

I forgot to add a scene at the end of chapter 19! If you did not see a portion from Becca's POV, please go check the end of chapter 19 one more time!!

Chapters 1-8 have been edited for continuity! I would love to edit the rest of the weird chapters tonight, but it *is* 6am... so I should 'probably' sleep.

Anyways, as always you go have a good day, now. <3
