First sign

"Graham, could you please hand me those reports?"

The gruff man, or lycan as Sang had called him, handed the papers to his alfa.

She was in charge of the protection of Oshito. They had chosen her because having a large group of demons guarding your city was a clear sign power, especially higher demons.

Lycans are what most travellers call werewolves, sometimes it even appears in the system as that for them.

Demons are interesting creatures. A demon is a being that has both a humanoid form and a monster form.

Lesser demons were those that had no control over the transformation and no access to any increased traits, they just transformed when certain conditions were fulfilled.

Lower demons also had no control over their transformation but they tended to be faster, stronger, better at magic depending on the species.

Higher demons could control the transformation but were only at full strength under certain conditions. They also had these boosted traits.

Greater demons had full access to their power at all time. They also tended to be treated as royalty by demons.

Now, Lycans are a special race of demons because they were artificial, created by an old witch who was trying to create a greater demon species.

Graham's alfa suddenly made a noise of surprise. "What's wrong miss?"

"This report states that a Wendigo has been found within the barrier."

"That can't be right, who found them, maybe they've never seen one and just confused it for something else."

"It was Siloam, he's fought in the war, he would definitely know what a wendigo looks like."

"Then, that can only mean one thing, she's here. Graham, bring the Ancient One here, she seems to be particularly old and maybe she could help us."

He nodded and turned into his wolf form.

----Sang----

I was sitting at the bar, happy that I had gotten what I wanted. I was sipping ale when the gruff looking lycan approached me.

"My alfa would like to speak with you. Now, don't worry, it's not about getting you to leave, we have bigger problems."

I nodded and finished my ale. Then, before he could blink, I was at a big building in the center of town.

I was led inside by a surprised young girl who had seen me seemingly appear out of thin air.

When I entered the alfa's office I was surprised at how comfortable it all looked. Whoever had done the interior design knew what they were doing.

Then I saw the alfa and I immediately turned around.

"Trust me Sang, had I thought there was any other way, I would've taken it."

"What the hell do you want me to say Val, good to see you after you broke up with me for no apparent reason

Or maybe, hey, it's nice to see that you became the sole original Lycan!"

"Both are fine. Right now, our relationship isn't a problem, the problem is that a Wendigo has been found inside the barrier and we both know that it's impossible for those to enter."

"Vampires also shouldn't be able to enter and yet I'm here just fine."

"Are you comparing yourself to a fledgling wendigo, the didn't even have it's wings yet."

"Ok, no. But c'mon, you just brought me here to confirm what you're afraid of."

"You sired her and her little foursome, you should be able to feel them if they were here."

"You know Val, you can go fuck yourself. Yes, they're here and they can burn this fucking city to the ground for all I care. You know what, I'll even do myself a little favor by hurting you even more."

I snapped my fingers and silence fell.

"What did you do? WHAT DID YOU DO SANG?"

"Oh, nothing much I just turned off that silly little barrier of yours, knowing Anna, she probably has an army waiting just outside of where it was."

With that I walked out of her office and hoped to never seen her again.

As you might have guessed, we had a little bit of a history together, but then she walked away because of reasons I cannot comprehend after I helped her become immortal so we could be together.

You see, I had wanted to turn Valeria into a vampire like me but there are some races we cannot turn.

Monsters for example, are impossible for us to turn, by extension demons and anyone who's closely related to a demon by blood cannot be turned.

When I had tried to turn her, her body rejected the turn because she was like this, so, I helped find a way by creating a way for her to turn.

In short, I had created a subspecies of vampires that made it possible for demons to also become vampires in a sense, although they didn't drink blood and they were much weaker, that is the common lycans are, the original 10 were on par with a turned vampire and had a shared power pool, when one of them died, it's strength got passed on to the others.

This power pool was something that applied to every pack, that's why they still had pretty limited numbers, they tried to keep a balance between quality and quantity.

The thing that frustrates me the most however, is that the turner, the device I created to turn people into lycans, was stolen by the original pack and I wanted it back.

Lucky for me, I had placed a spell on it that would lead me to it's location of the entire original pack died, that's the reason I had lowered the barrier.

Why didn't I kill her? Because killing a vampire, even a subspecies is a taboo. Even with my status you are only allowed to kill someone who has attacked the original family, otherwise, all fueds must be resolved peacefully. So that's what I would do, resolve it peacefully by using a group of people I had wanted to die for a while now.
