The Killing at District 12

There were mysterious murders taking place at District 12 every last weekend of the month and the serial killer was at large. "Our killer was not just deliberately peeling of the face of his victims. He was also eviscerating their body and purging out their organs, particularly their hearts. It was like the killer wanted to remove everything that made one human." Two people who used to be high school friends and also shared a painful past; both lost a loved one on an incident that happened six years ago decided to join hands to solve this mystery. One was retired a forensic anthropologist who turned a new leaf and chose to become a professor at a medical school While the other was a former law enforcement officer who had decided to be into seminary and was just a step away from becoming an officially ordained priest Will they be able to identify the notorious killer that lurked the shadows of their district??? NIGHTMARES OF DISTRICT 12

"As much as possible, we wanted to limit the activities of people within the dumpsite so that the killer would have less opportunity to commit his crime. For now, you better advise the kids against going to the dumpsite, especially during late hours. Moreover, I also heard that you work as a social worker in the nearby orphanage, right? So since that was the case, I think that it could be a great help if you could also tell them to keep an eye for any suspicious characters and tell them as well that if ever they find anything amiss, they could inform us about it. That was all that we could do for now."

Since Anton personally offered his help on their case, Santina made sure to make good use of it

She told Anton all the things that she could think of that could possibly aid them in the case to which the other party nodded his head in understanding.

Likewise, as the former student and professor had a lot to catch up, they made use of the remaining time to get to know how they had been during those last few months that they did not hear from one another.

As the two chatted, their conversation eventually drifted to the reason of why Anton decided to drop out in the middle of the semester. Santina also asked her student if he happened to contact his parents already ever since he ran away from home but the young man just simply shook his head.

"No, professor. I haven't and I don't think that I would be reaching out to them anytime soon."

He said with a downcasted expression.

"Why is that so? Don't you know that Mrs. Perex had been keeping in touch with me up until now hoping to hear from you? I think they really missed you so much. Your parents must be worried sick about you already."

"Please professor, don't tell me on them. I want to pursue what my heart truly desires as well as give myself some peace of mind. Something that they could hardly give me."

Anton said afterward and from the way he said it, it was apparent that he would not take no as an answer so Santina juts nodded her head and chose not to say anything further.

After all, she knew well enough how rich households were highly expectant to their offsprings. Which often than not, put too much pressure on their children eventually making them feel like living under the same roof with their parent was a burden and was no different from being imprisoned with their preset standards.

As soon as the rain subsided, the three decided to leave the faculty right away so they could bring Anton in their laboratory to finally show him around their workplace.

The weather outside had still not gotten any better which was evident because a large part of the sky was still covered by clouds.

The rain poured heavily and it left puddles of water at the most part of the streets.Likewise, the same piles of gray clouds above could also be seen reflecting from that accumulated rainwater as the clouds slowly roll to wherever the wind took them.

Meanwhile, as Mikael trained his eyes to look around the empty street, he could not help but made a meaningful comment

"Dead things sure knew their place."

He muttered under his breath as he watched how the place looked like after the rain.

In his personal observation, the young aspiring priest could not help but notice that every after the rain, those things which did not exactly have a life of their own tended to momentarily reclaim the human attention.

Everything else, including the cars, the buildings, the dingy shop signs and the crumbling waiting sheds, even the garland of electrical wirings which lined the streets as well as the rusting metal and concrete and plastics that jut singly or in heaps to stab the city air; altogether, they all seemed to recede into a damp and quiet stillness every after it had rained.

When they arrived at their workplace, Mikael immediately pulled the blinds of their windows to allow the watery daylight to weave its way on the vertical blinds. These rays of light with an uneven wash of gray settled on their floor as well as on their wooden cabinets.

Santina, on the other hand, went straight at their workstation and pulled a chair with her, then she motioned for Anton to take a seat

"Let us brief you about the progress of our case so far."

She said as she signaled at Mikael to take the lead, and while at it, she also took out a pad of fresh yellow paper on her drawer, something that she could use for jotting down notes later on.

Meanwhile, Mikael took another chair for himself and then straddled it. He leaned forward in the chair and made use of its back to cushion his chest instead rather than his back.

"Alright."

He said as he tilted his head and closed his eyes. Trying to replay the recent nightmares that transpired within the District 12.
