Chapter 9: Cooking

After Shen Qinglan walked around Shen Qingju and stood directly in front of the stove, she placed the meat on the stove and picked up the spatula at the side. Then, she turned her head and said to Shen Qingju, "Oil."

Shen Qingju frowned as she said, "Qinglan, how about I…"

"Oil."

Shen Qinglan ignored her and looked at Shen Qingzhu.

Shen Qingzhu pointed to her right and said," The oil is in the jar beside you."

"Oh."

After Shen Qinglan reached out to open the lid of the clay pot, she scooped three spoonfuls of oil into the pot.

Shen Qingju and Shen Qingzhu gasped.

Their family wouldn't use three spoonfuls of oil even for an entire day's worth of meals.

Shen Qingju's expression darkened, but Shen Qingzhu instantly became excited.

When their eldest sister cooked, she didn't even put in much salt, let alone oil. The taste of the dishes she cooked was definitely comparable to that of the pig feed at their grandma's house.

Shen Qinglan ignored the changes in their expressions and continued to stir-fry the meat.

After she heated the oil, she added garlic. After stir-frying the garlic, she poured in the rabbit meat and bird meat at the side and stir-fried them twice. Then, she added the ginger and stir-fried them twice before pouring some water and covering the lid of the pot.

When Shen Qingzhu smelled the aroma of the meat, she swallowed her saliva before praising, "I really didn't expect Third Sister to be such a good cook!"

When Shen Qingju thought of the amount of oil Shen Qinglan had just put in, her heart ached. However, when she smelled the aroma of the meat, she could not blame her.

After about fifteen minutes, Shen Qinglan lifted the lid again and a strong meaty aroma spread out.

Even Shen Qingping, who was playing in the yard, was attracted by the smell of meat.

"It smells so good!"

Shen Qinglan looked at Shen Qingping, who was leaning against the door and poking his head in. She tugged the corners of her mouth and said, "I'll be done in a while."

She used the spatula to stir-fry it before covering the lid again.

After about a quarter of an hour, Shen Qinglan added salt and stir-fried it again. Only then did she let Shen Qingzhu move the firewood away to put it out.

After Shen Qingju washed two bowls, one big and one small, she placed them on the stove.

Shen Qinglan filled the big bowl first, then placed the rest into a small bowl.

Shen Qingju was speechless.

"This small bowl is for grandpa and grandma. This little bit of food isn't enough!"

Why was her third sister even more stingy than her?

"Oh."

Hearing this, Shen Qinglan scooped some from the big bowl into the small bowl with a spatula.

When Shen Qingju saw this, she turned to Shen Qingzhu, who was staring at the meat ravenously, and said with satisfaction, "Qingzhu, send this meat to Grandpa and Grandma. Remember to bring the bowl back."

Shen Qingzhu responded and went out with the meat.

Old Master Shen and Old Madam Shen stayed with their third uncle Shen Tang.

Their third aunt passed away not long after she gave birth to their younger cousin, Shen Qing'an. It had been seven years since then.

Shen Tang was a hopeless romantic. His wife had passed away for seven years already, but he had no intention of remarrying.

During the few days since Shen Qinglan woke up, she found out about almost all the Shen family members.

Old Madam Shen had three sons, their eldest uncle Shen He, their father Shen Shan, and their third uncle Shen Tang.

There were a total of seven people in their eldest uncle's family. Other than their eldest uncle, there was their eldest aunt Jiang Shi, eldest cousin Shen Qingfeng, second cousin Shen Qingning, and third cousin Shen Qinghe.

Their eldest cousin, Shen Qingfeng, was already married. He had a one-year-old son and his wife was Zhang Xiaolian. She had a good personality and was very dilligent, so their eldest aunt liked her very much.

Their second cousin, Shen Qingning, was not married yet. He was working as a helper in a restaurant in town to help with the family expenses.

Shen Qinghe was already engaged. After the autumn harvest, the other party would come to propose marriage.

The three brothers of the Shen family had a good relationship and often helped each other.

However, their eldest uncle's family was doing the best.

Their eldest uncle was a hunter. Every time he brought his prey to the restaurants in town, he would earn a lot of money.

Shen Qinglan's eldest uncle's family had paid for the doctor and the medicine when she was injured by a cow.
