Devon walked into Pizza Palace and headed for the counter. He'd been working to help his mom and little brother.

Ever since their father's death, his mom had had trouble providing for the family and paying the bills.

Devon smacked his palms against the counter, making his friend, India, jump.

She wore the same uniform as him; with a red shirt and black pants. On India's right arm was the tattoo of a rose. Her bleached dreadlocks were pulled back into a ponytail.

India scowled at him. "Do you go out of your way to scare people, Dev?"

"I kinda' thought the bell on the door would give me away." Devon shrugged. "Boss said that there were a few deliveries. Where is Adam anyway?"

"That man?" India snorted. "Sleeping in the breakroom. I'm still surprised that man still has a job here." she got up and walked over to the ovens. "Do you want a bag?"

Devon nodded.

India reached under the counter and pulled out a red bag. She slid the pizza boxes inside, then slid them toward him.

Behind India the doors to the kitchen open and a boy stumbled through, hauling out some boxes.

"Xy! What did I tell you about that?" India rushed over to help. "Your skinny little self is doing too much!"

Devon laughed. "Don't listen to her, Xy. She's trying to stop you from being a man."

"Tuh! I'm tryin' to stop him from breaking his back!" she wiped the sweat from her dark skin with a cloth. "Are you sure you don't want to use a car?"

"Or some help?" Xy chirped. "I can be of assistance!"

Devon smiled, knowing he was just trying to show off for India.

Devon nodded toward the other stack of pizzas. "Sure. Could you tackle those for me?"

Xy nodded eagerly and raced off to get his car keys.

"You know he's crushing on you, right?" Devon smirked and pulled the bag over his shoulder.

India shook her head. "Oh, hush. No, he doesn't."

Davon waved farewell and stepped out into the sunshine. In the distance, he saw superhumans jumping from roof to roof, chasing after a criminal.

Before, people with powers were treated like garbage and second-class citizens. But when a gang of villains decided they wanted to take over the city, the people didn't know what to do.

For the first few months, the superhumans stayed in hiding for fear they would be killed.

It was almost two years before anyone did anything. Devon has been a little boy when he heard that the superhumans had come out of hiding to help.

Even some of the powerless citizens joined them.

Now that superhumans were respected, loved, and adored. The president gave them permission to start a business to recruit other superhumans.

They were the city's police force.

Devon had been ten when he had his accident with an electrical outlet. A few days later he realized he was running faster than usual, everything was passing by him in a blur.

For years he's kept his powers a secret from everyone, including his family.

Devon sped toward his last destination, taking as many shortcuts as he could. He reached the house a few minutes later.

It was the city's only mansion. He pressed the call button and waited a moment before a scratchy voice replied, "Who's there?"

"I'm Devon from Pizza Palace. I...uh..have your cheese pizza."

The gates opened and Devon walked to the front door.

In total, the mansion was five stories tall, with a huge yard, and a marble statue out front.

The door was opened and a boy was standing there in a pair of dripping swimming trunks.

He had olive skin, brown hair, and emerald eyes. He smiled showing two perfect rows of white teeth.

"Hey pizza boy." he turned and shouted over his shoulder. "Dads! Your pizza's here. I'm guessing you want a tip? Hold up."

He slammed the door in Devon's face.

A moment later the boy opened the door again and handed Devon a wad of cash.

"You must be Patrick and Victor's son," Devon muttered.

The boy cocked his head. "So? Are you going to spit at me or something?"

"Why would I do that?"

"Well, 'cause s your a normal citizen. Some still don't approve of us." the boy shrugged. "Unless you're a fan of my dads."

Devon bit his lip. "I guess I am."

"I can get you an autograph."

Devon was so close to fangirling, but he shook his head. "Nah. I'm good. I'd better get going."

"Devon, right?"

"Huh?"

The boy rolled his eyes. "Your name? It's Devon, right?" he held out a hand. "I'm-"

"Trevor. Trevor White."

Trevor smirked. "Looks like you've done your research, uh? Well, it was nice talking to you, I've got to go."

Devon turned and walked away from the house. He stepped past the gate and glanced over his shoulder.

Trevor lifted his hand and waved before closing the door.

Boy, would he have a story to tell India.

As he was making his way back to Pizza Palace, he saw someone jumping from roof to roof.

Devon watched him and noticed he didn't wear the grey uniform that the superhumans wore.

He debated if he should follow him or not. It looked like he was heading in the direction of his job anyway. Devon followed, making sure to keep out of sight.

Ashe ran he recognized him from his college class. He always sat in the back and hardly ever spoke unless the teacher as him to.

But what was he doing?

A few blocks later, Devon got his answer. He watched the boy jump down from the roof of a storage building and land in front of a jewelry store.

He pulled out a silver pistol and went inside. Devon could hear panicked people screaming, others ran for the door.

Devon grabbed an older lady and pulled her aside. "Ma'am, what's happening in there?"

"That lunatic is threatening to shoot if he can't steal some diamonds!"

Devon rolled his eyes. Of course.

"Ok, I need you to call the superhero headquarters. Ask them to send some help."

The woman nodded and whipped out her phone.

Devon gathered whatever courage he still possessed and ran inside the store.

The cashiers were standing behind the counter with their hands on their heads. Tears staining their cheeks. The remaining customers were huddled in a corner.

Devon spotted the kid filling a bag with diamond rings, rubies, and anything else he could get his hands on.

"What are you going to do with all of that?"

The guy's head snapped up and he narrowed his eyes. "What are you doing here?"

Devon folds his arms. "Stopping you. I suggest you put that down so this arrest is easier for you."

He snorts. "I wanna see you try."

The diamonds in the case came flying in Devon's direction. Telekinesis.

Devon yelped and used his speed to dodge them. He grabbed one from the ground and threw it at the red emergency button.

The other guy tackled him to the ground and punched him in the face.

Devon had only gotten into a fight once because a kid thought he stole his backpack.

But he didn't remember it hurting this much. The guy kicked him in the stomach, sending him flying into the counter.

Devon dodged the other attack. He snatched up a diamond and stabbed him with the pointy end.

Blood pooled from the wound and the guy howled, charging again. He used his powers to send jewelry lying at him again.

Devon snatched up two diamonds. Threw one at the red button again, grinning when the alarm started blaring. The second one landed in the guy's thigh. Though it didn't stop him he stumbled and that was all Devon needed.

In half a second he had tied him up.

After a tense silence, the people erupted into cheers. They came over lifting him into the air.

Devon grinned to himself. He just took down his first criminal.
