Chapter 4- Qin family Journals

When he left the dungeon, Wei Xiao's mind was still thinking of what his uncle had said. It's not that he doesn't trust the decision made by his elder, but the fact that having the lunatic that killed thousands of practitioners set off to hide with him made him feel uncomfortable and reluctant. Qin Zuijia may be hiding facts about his past, but that doesn't mean they should just free him from the punishment. Wei Xiao was pondering what his uncle might be up to when the little rabbit jumped down from his arms and hopped straight to a bush.

Wei Xiao reached out his hand to grab the little rabbit back and found his nephew hiding by the bush and patting the rabbit on the head.

"Bad rabbit!" The child berated. The child was only two years old, a little chubby with his cheeks swollen for eating too much. The flushed cheeks make him look cute and his eyes shine like the morning sun. Indeed a child that has not seen the coldness and ruthlessness of the world are the most beautiful.

"Xiao ling?" Wei Xiao called his nephew. The sudden appearance of this young master here is very unusual. He is currently standing in front of the judgement hall where Xiao Ling shouldn't have been in. "Why are you here?"

Xiao Ling looked up at his uncle and smiled. His white teeth were beaming at him, and although it was missing one tooth in the front, he looks rather adorable. "Xiao Ling wants to see uncle!"

Wei Xiao looks at the child intently. He furrowed his brow as though examining if the other was lying.

Xiao Ling saw his expression and copied him, furrowing his brow and pouting. When the child does this, his eyes would cross and he would look more cute than intimidating.

Wei Xiao noticed his actions and softened his brows. He showed the kid his hands and said. "The ground is dirty, come with uncle and we'll get you something to eat."

The child heard his sentence and became excited. Yes, even the child is gluttons like his father and uncle.

Xiao Ling stood up, patted the dirt on his clothes and walked towards his uncle. Wei Xiao lifted the child up and carried him to the dining hall. The little rabbit followed behind them, never failing to keep up his pace. Soon they arrived at the dining hall where many disciples and guards had already gotten their food. Some came in, and some went out. The place isn't crowded, but there are still a lot of people inside.

Wei Xiao found an inconspicuous table to sit on. He had his nephew sit down and he went to get them food.

Later, their table was filled with hot and spicy food. Though Xiao Ling was only two years old, his appetite is very large. He could eat a whole chicken in one sitting and still want more. Good thing is that their clan is very rich and could pacify the gluttons (a.k.a the Wei brothers and the little Wei child)

The little rabbit was happily nibbling on his green cabbage and occasionally looking at the two human beings in front of him. One tall was eating three bowls with dumplings and spring rolls, dipping them in hot sauce. The small one was happily holding a chicken leg and greedily munching on them. The atmosphere in their table would be considered harmonious, although one was cold and the other was like the spring. Their interaction was still warm.

Upon suddenly seeing this scene. Wei Xiayu's lips curved into a sinister smile. He planned on surprising his son who had his back on him. He giggle menacingly and quietly walked towards their table. The little rabbit saw him coming and immediately ran towards him, ruining his planned surprise.

"Dada!" Xiao Ling exclaimed as he saw his father coming to greet him.

"Ah-Ling!" Wei Xiayu awkwardly replied.

Xiao Ling ran towards his father and pulled him to their table. "Dada eat with Xiao Ling." He stated.

Wei Xiayu smiled helplessly and let his son drag him to the table.

"You haven't eaten yet?" Wei Xiao's cold and indifferent voice sounded from the table.

"I have, but I'm still not full."

"Dada Eat!" Xiao Ling exclaimed.

Wei Xiayu rubbed his son's hair and smiled warmly.

Xiao Ling loved being spoiled by his father so he didn't stop him from rubbing his head. He took his half eaten chicken leg and handed it to his father.

"Ah! Ah-Ling loves papa so much!" He exclaimed, stupidly. The father-son duo was ridiculous to look at yet their interaction is very warm.

"Has Big Sister eaten yet?" Wei Xiao asked.

"She has. We had some guards bring food in the pavilion, but it wasn't enough for me. The meal was enough for Ah-Ling, but not for me." He sighed regretfully while rubbing his stomach.

Though the Wei Brothers and little Ling have big appetites, they never gain too much weight. Their body proportions are perfect, and both brothers had eight pack abs. Their spiritual energy helps maintain the beauty of their body. But Xiao Ling, on the other hand, is a chubby baby. His face almost resembles a ball. But for a two year old child, no matter how fat he gets, he still looks adorable.

"Uncle Xiao! Eat!" Xiao Ling exclaimed. Wei Xiao looked at him with his brows furrowed as if he was angry. Xiao Ling copied him while adding a pouting lips and with his arms crossed. The little fatty looks even rounder with him crossing his arms.

"Aiya! Xiao Ling is mad!?" Wei Xiayu teased. "tsk tsk, Uncle should apologize to Ah-Ling."

Xiao Ling continued to pout. Wei Xiao took advantage of his pouting lips to deliver a spring roll to his mouth. Xiao Ling opened his mouth and let the spring roll be delivered while still pretending to be angry.

Wei Xiayu laughed at his arrogant yet adorable act. He tried to suppress his laughter but was unable to. The neighboring table has long seen the scene, when they saw that their young master's and the little young master's actions, they couldn't help but laugh as well. Now the whole dining hall is filled with laughter.

When Xiao Ling saw that everyone was laughing, he couldn't help but laugh as well. He was the type of kid that follows what the others are doing. He could be stubborn sometimes, but he was still a child. When people around him were happy, he felt happy and he couldn't help but share it to everyone around him.

When they finished eating, Wei Xiao separated from the two and went to talk to his uncle.

In the middle of the Qin clan's massive manor sits the office of the clan leader. The two doors separating the outside from the inside was filled with an oppressive atmosphere where normal people won't be able to take. Beyond that door is a room filled with files, important documents and many artifacts that should not be seen by others. Though those things are in that room, they were still hidden in a secret chamber.

Wei Xiao tidied his clothes and proceeded to knock on the door.

"Who is it?" The tranquil voice of Qin Xuan sounded as if it came from a heavenly figure. Wei Xiao subconsciously stiffened.

"...It's me, uncle." After a minute, Wei Xiao finally replied.

The doors opened, showing a man in celestial white robe reading scriptures and several letters. He had his long black hair loose, spreading to his shoulder, and his chest. He looks as if he was a fairy and was more heavenly than Wei Xiao, himself.

"What do you need?" Qin Xuan looked up at him and smiled.

"About what Uncle said earlier."

Qin Xuan laughs. He had his hand covering his lips. "What about it?"

"Could Uncle enlighten me about your sudden decision to let Qin Zuijia go."

Qin Xuan hummed. He stood up to take a booklet from his drawer and handed them into Wei Xiao. "I don't know what others might think, but the Qin family are the most honest family in the whole Wolf bane continent."

Wei Xiao saw that it was a journal written by Qin Zuijia. Here was writing everything that he thought during the last five years before his name was smeared with blood. The cover of the journal lights up white then yellow.

"Over the years, The Qin Clan has never lied, that book states all of Qin Zuijia's inner thoughts." Qin Xuan reclined back to his chair. "With his personality, it is very doubtful for him to have inner demons and kill those thousands of practitioners. On top of that he is a mage."

Wei Xiao understood what his uncle had said. Qin Zuijia was a mage. Mages can strengthen their spiritual force to drive away inner demons that lurk and try to destroy one's mind, leading to a Qi deviation and death. The higher the level of the spiritual force the greater the chances of expelling the internal demons, that was one of the advantage mages have over martial artists. It was really weird for Qin Zuijia, who was the highest level mage in all the Wolf bane Continent, to go berserk and have inner demons controlling his thoughts. Probably the reason why people didn't notice this abnormality was because they were too focused on cursing and hating Qin Zuijia. But what exactly happened? How come he was controlled by inner demons? Now, Wei Xiao understood why his uncle wanted him to escape with Qin Zuijia. His uncle wanted to uncover the truth and maybe clean the Qin family's name.

Although Wei Xiao was still reluctant to do so, he was trusted by his uncle to such an important job. He nodded in agreement, but his heart was still unsure of Qin Zuijia.

Qin Xuan smiled at his nephew and patted him on the shoulder. He pushed the other out of his office and locked the door close.

He bit his lip and went back to his house.

When he left, he continued to contemplate what his uncle had said. He figured out why he felt unsure of Qin Zuijia. Yes, it is unlikely for a mage to have inner demons, but the fact that he has inner demons was frightening to anyone who would notice. If even the purest mage had inner demons, what about the others? Qin Zuijia may be pure before, but because of inner demons he fell into the wrong side. If Qin Zuijia fell, then the other mages would fall as well.

He frowned when ponders a bit more and found that something didn't sound right. The reason why mages don't have inner demons is because of the nature of their soul, mages' souls have marks that are stronger than martial artists and the color by which the mark shines tells how powerful a mage could become. Mages' souls act as defense against inner demons that infect their thinking. With this, doesn't that mean Qin Zuijia's soul was damaged, but when they checked, his soul was healthy.

Wei Xiao can't think of a reason why it happened. Maybe Qin Zuijia was just crazy, but when he looked at him that time, he looked normal. He reluctantly pushed that issue aside and resolved to follow his Uncle's orders.

He walked towards the direction of his manor and found two people waiting for him in the front. One was the irritable madan Li and the other was the Clan leader of the Li family- Li Biming.

The Li family's head was extremely arrogant but has the face to be one. He was handsome, but not like jade like Wei Xiayu and Wei Xiao. His attractiveness is like a beacon, beautiful to look at, but the moment you get close, you'll burn. Li Biming has delicate features making him look like a woman, his voice is soft yet the words that come out of them are menacing. He is madam Li's half-brother from the same father, but the gap of their age is quite large- madame Li is already 126 years old, while Li Biming is only 24. When their father died, He was already 200 years old, and the clan had wanted him to step down, but because he was very powerful, he remained seated only to be killed by his own son. This fact is known to others, but because Qin Zuijia, who used to be the next clan leader of the Qin Clan, killed thousands of people, they choose to ignore the former.

"Young master Wei." Li Biming cupped his hands and bowed to Wei Xiao.

"Clan Leader Li." Wei Xiao merely nodded. "What brings you to my residence?" His voice was deep, cold, making the others feel uncomfortably freezing.

Li Biming cleared his throat and spoke. "Young master Wei Xiayu has mentioned that the matter concerning Qin Zuijia is supervised by Young master Wei, I came here to discuss this matter with you." He spoke resolutely without a care for what the other might say.

Wei Xiao looked at him indifferently and proceeded to enter his home. He slammed the door close, which told the other party that he has no care to listen to what they say.

Li Biming fumed with anger. He gritted his teeth and struck the door with his fist. The hard collision made the door quake, but stayed firmly closed. The loud sound frightened the birds that were perched on the trees which made them fly away. Li Biming won't leave, not until he gets his hand on the treasure he wanted.

"Wei Xiao! You think just because Qin Xuan treats you as family that you can act arrogant towards other!!" Li Biming shouted.

Inside the manor, Wei Xiao put up a barrier. He can't hear what Li Biming shouted, but even if he heard it, he would act as though he didn't. He walked into the library to search up books that he needed to bring for his journey the next night. He prepared two brocade pouches - one for him and the other for Qin Zuijia. Even though he knew that Qin Zuijia has no other properties now, that doesn't mean he won't have more in the future.

The brocade pouches that he took may not have the largest space, but it wasn't the smallest either. Both pouches had 50 square meter space just enough to store the most common things they needed. He also took a Jade box which contains several gems, jewelry and gold coins.

He stood in front of the book shelf searching for an important manuscript and training manual that he currently practices. His eyes landed at a book which was written by the legendary savior from the Qin family.

It was a journal like what his uncle showed him. It holds his inner thoughts and view of the world. The journals that the Qin descendants have are used to evaluate their mind. Every five years, an elder would evaluate the younger generation through their journal and would guide them to follow the right path. Qin Zuijia's journal was filled with the desire to bring pride to the Qin family, occasionally he would write about what food he wanted to eat, how he thinks about his comrades and how he hates cultivating, but never was it filled with malice. The journal is locked with complicated barriers and only the owner could open them. The evaluation mostly determines the emotion of the owner when writing and is judged based on what color shines on the surface - White- Pure but empty, Yellow- Happy and healthy, Blue- Sad yet strong, Red- strong yet aggressive, Black- requires immediate aid. Qin Zuijia's journal shows two colors White and yellow.

He took the journal and saw that it shines blue and black. The legendary figure that everyone loves stores his true thoughts in this journal, yet for some reason it glows black. Why does he require immediate aid?

Wei Xiao thought for a while, but didn't linger in that thought. Maybe the other just suddenly felt really sad that he wasn't able to cultivate his emotion well. He took the book and stored them in his brocade pouch.

The little rabbit, who was hiding in his clothes, leaped towards the book before it was put away.

Wei Xiao was surprised by the little rabbit's sudden appearance and had almost forgotten about him when he went to his uncle. He rubbed the little rabbit's head and tried to lift him up. The little rabbit protested, struggling to push Wei Xiao's hand away.

Wei Xiao looked at the little rabbit trying his best to push away the hand that was about to pick him up.

"What do you want?" Wei Xiao murmured.

The little rabbit slumped down on the book and rubbed his head on it. The book glowed even brighter. The black and blue color looked very beautiful, but the meaning behind them was quite worrisome.

"Is there something in the book?" Wei Xiao noticed that the book changes the intensity of the color when the little rabbit rubbed his head on it.

The little rabbit ignored him and sniffed the book again and again. He stuck out his tongue to lick it a couple of times. He looked very happy with the book.

Wei Xiao was stupefied, he found the rabbit quite adorable, but didn't know what to do. He stood silently, watching the rabbit try and hug the entire book.

"...Xiao Bai, is there something in the book that you like?"

The rabbit continued to try and wrap his paws around the book. He repeated his action of trying to hug the whole book, but no matter how he tries, he was still too small.

Wei Xiao knitted his brows and pulled the book away. Xiao Bai fell to his bosoms and was trapped in one of Wei Xiao's arms. Wei Xiao held the rabbit firmly, making the other unable to move. He placed the book down on the table and stared at it for a moment.

"What does Xiao Bai want with this book?" He asked the little rabbit though he knew it wouldn't answer.

Xiao Bai stares at the book as if it was his lost treasure.

Wei Xiao sighed. If it wasn't for the fact that every Journals that were given to the Qin family heir can only be opened by its owner, He would have opened the book and seen what the little rabbit was buzzing about. Though the distribution of journals, like the one in front of him now, has stopped when the members of the original Qin family died, Wei Xiao is still interested with the said journals and wanted to have one in order for him to know whether his inner thoughts were good or not.

His thoughts wander as the time passes, and when he comes back to his senses, ten minutes have passed. He thought of what it would be like if he was a part of the original family and was able to have a journal like them, but then he remembered that the legendary figure from the Qin family's journal shone Black and blue, his thoughts turned cold. How could a legendary figure have impure thoughts and the man inside the cell has pure one. He pondered for a moment and decided that it may be because of their different generation.

Wei Xiao continued to pack for his journey outside the Heavenly City and took the most essential objects in his manor. He took his Jade pendant and tied them to his belt. This would be the first and last time he would wear that Jade Pendant inside the Heavenly City. This would also be the last time he'll be in the Qin manor before it collapses.
