CHAPTER 46 SCARFACE

Shadow then started to adopt more orphans and slaves. He also made one of the 3 orphans his disciple, named Scarlet. She has a talent for the sword, so he made her his disciple.

Shadow then brought Scarlet into the guild. Shadow was thinking of going on a mission spree for at least a month. He would also bring the orphans and train them while he was at it.

Shadow picks 3 A-Rank missions for him. He will bring Scarlet with him on his mission, while Shadow just lets the others explore the city. He wants them to get used to the life of a mercenary.

The missions he picked were

(Kill the Devil Hornets that are harassing Flower Scent Village) (A-Rank) (500 Gold)

(Hunt the Devil Bull that is rampaging at Belli Town) (A-Rank) (150 Gold)

(Escort the Travelling Wind Merchant) (A-Rank) (100 Gold)

Shadow then brought the mission scroll to the clerk and left with Scarlet, whose first mission was to escort the Travelling Wind Merchant.

Shadow wants to train himself and Scarlet during the journey. He was also thinking of bringing Vixen with him, even though, being a den owner, the beast should be busy managing it, but with Vixen's five siblings, her territory should be okay. Too bad Glutton's den is still new, so it can't leave it and must manage it for now.

Shadow then brought Vixen with him and went to the meeting place for the escort. He made Vixen turn into an adorable little fox and let her stay on his shoulder while he bought a horse for Scarlet; after all, she is not listed as one of the escorts.

When he arrived there, he saw four other A-Rank mercenaries chatting with each other.

Shadow then climbed into the roof of the carriage and sat there, meditating, while Scarlet brought her horse next to the carriage.

"Hey little girl, what are you doing here? This isn't a mission for a runt like you can just accept," one of the mercenaries sneered at Scarlet.

"She is my disciple. I am bringing her to train. Don't fret, she is not one of the escorts."

"Who do you think? Before the man finished, one of his buddies pulled him and whispered something through his ears. After that, the man looked at Shadow with fear and did not have any courage to look at Shadow again.

They waited for other mercenaries to come; there were 7 spots all in all. After waiting for another hour, the caravan was ready to set off.

Shadow was laying down on the carriage roof, looking peaceful, while the others were very vigilant. Scarlet was following the carriage that Shadow was in. They travelled for 5 kilometres when suddenly Shadow sat up and yelled, "Stop the carriage, we have some visitors!"

The caravan stopped, and all of the guards and mercenaries looked towards Shadow.

Shadow was unfazed by their confused and questioning gaze. "I think you should just show yourselves; if not, I will open fire."

There was no response, so Shadow cast chaotic [Chaotic Fox Hellfire] towards the nearby bushes.

Numerous shadows jump off the bushes and trees, circling Shadow and the rest.

"To think that you detected us very well, but you will still be killed by me, one of the bandit overlords, Scarface."

Shadow looks at the muscular guy who is gripping a huge sabre and scans him, looking at the bandit leader. No wonder he is proud. His cultivation is transcending gold level. He has the strength to prove that he is an overlord, even though it is just a bandit overlord.

"Vixen, protect Scarlet." Vixen nodded and dashed towards the enemy.

"Scarlet, fight some bandits that are still at no cultivation level. I will let Vixen guard you." After saying that, Shadow dashed towards Scarface.

Scarface let out a laugh and swung his huge sabre at the incoming shadow.

Shadow also swung Killer to parry Scarface's attack.

Shadow then backstepped and fired a [flame blast] at point range.

Scarface let out a roar, dispersing Shadow [Flame Blast].

Shadow covers his ears, Scarface not letting this chance off, uses some martial skill, and his huge sabre becomes blurry. His attack was so fast that Shadow was left with no choice but to use [Advance Wind Dash] and his light-step martial skill to the fullest, using all his concentration on dodging even though some parts of his clothes were still destroyed.

Shadow kept dodging, while Scarface was laughing wildly while hacking Shadow.

Shadow was waiting for an opening, but it seems that Scarface was an expert in fighting; he did not let Shadow have a chance to fight back.

While Scarface was laughing wildly, a black and red fireball hit his face, making him stop.

'Chance' Shadow used all his strength to hack Scarface into two

'Danger' Scarface immediately felt the threat of death and used a defensive skill [iron skin]. It was the upgrade version of [stone skin].

*Peng* A shadow attack hit Scarface, producing sparks but not cutting Scarface, only leaving behind a white mark.

Shadow followed his attack by [Flame Blast]. *Boom* The attack exploded into Scarface. Shadow used the shockwave to give him some space. He then cast [Chaotic Fox Hellfire] and kept blasting Scarface.

Scarface let out another roar, dispersing the attacks. When he heaved a sigh, a sword was coming for his throat.

'Not good' even though he was using [iron skin] to enhance his defence, but this skill greatly restricts his mobility, and this skill won't guarantee absolute defence.

'Damn it' he hurried, punching out *Boom* Shadow was blown off by the punch.

Scarface breathing becomes heavy, and a trail of blood is coming from his neck. If he had not punched out earlier, his head should have been cut off.

Shadow felt his ribs were broken by that punch. He flowed 5 metres away from Scarface. He stood up and wiped away the blood leaking out of his lip. He smiled and used [Advance Wind Dash] to its fullest and circled Scarface.

Scarface got tense looking, Shadow afterimage, not knowing where the real one was.

"Scarface, face my sword!"
