Since the spell was a rank 3 mid grade spell and it was casted by Alex whose might when it came to spells wasn't low due to his cultivation technique, the power behind the strike was top-notch. The lightning birds all went towards the same sport before they exploded thus dealing great damage on the mantis.

Although the mantis was a rank 4 monster, Alex was an anomaly that couldn't be ignored no matter what thus his attacks indeed hurt.
