Chapter 68: Royal Guard

Alex laid down on the ground nonchalantly. The whole mountain that used to be littered with buildings was now just a rubble mountain. But Alex isn't ready to give up yet. Because while this mountain by itself is useless, below this should be a gateway to the Demon Continent.

This was before the human ve demon wars even took place. So the Demon Continent should be full of resources left unclaimed, for example, things like gold and titanium are useless to Demons. But that material would be priceless to humans.

The sound of horse hooves click8ng against the ground was heard. But Alex doesn't move from his place as carriages of horses get closer. There were over a hundred carriages dragged with horses that seemed to come out of mythology.

Amongst the horses there were many types of them, none of the animals were normal. Some had red skin that seemed like heated metal. Others had light blue skin that seemed to cool the air around them. These beasts were all high-leveled ones that had access to their elements. They wouldn't lose to a Rank 2 or Rank 3 Warrior.

The horses were running at top speeds, with the enchanted carriages that seemed like they were out of a fairy tale. No car from the modern world could compete with the horses' speed.

...

But as the horse carriages drove fast to get to the top of the mountain. Along the road, they met Alex laying down on the ground. His clothes tattered and dried blood all around him. He didn't look good at all. He seemed more like a beggar than a Legendary Rank Mage.

But as the carriages stopped, a woman came out and rushed at Alex. She had a beautiful hourglass figure, bountiful breasts, and a piercing violet eye that was all complimented by her silk-like blonde hair. The other eye of hers was covered by a bandage.

She looked at Alex's downed form and breathed a sigh of relief. "Are you Alex? The breaker of chains. The Blood Make with a thousand eyes? Also known as Horror Child."

The way she asked showed the desperation in her voice. That was when a man with green hair and a long green beard came forward, he seemed to barely be able to walk and used a black snakehead clutch to walk. His dark robes shone in the sun and anyone who got too close to him would feel weakened.

He was the Green Viper of the Tang Clan. The man was quite old and some even suspected that he used to be one of the Grand Elders which made him over five hundred years old.

After a time, Lifespan Potions would start losing their effects when used too many times. People suspected that the man was at the end of his life now. The Green Viper, a man who was so good with poisons that he was in the Top 3 in the world of poisons. His crafts could kill people above his level as long as there was careful preparation for them. His knowledge of poisons would be considered unparalleled.

"Royalty shouldn't act like they are below others," said the Green Viper. His voice raspy and cold, it seemed like a corpse was speaking.

The woman looked at the old man in disdain. "Shut up! None of you can protect us. Me and my younger brother, he is four, yet the Throne Succession War will see us both killed. No Legendary Rank has come to help us! We will be dead as soon as the Throne Succession War officially starts. I will beg if I have to! What is pride worth if you are dead?!"

"Truer words have never been spoken," said Alex suddenly. Getting up and dusting his clothes. Honor? Pride? Those were useless, people liked the image of them, that was the only time when they were good. Honorful and prideful people didn't live long, both in Alex's previous world and his last one.

Good people were playing their life in hard mode. It was best to act like a good person but on the inside be bad. Then one would be playing the Easy Mode. Or at least as easy as their circumstances would allow them.

Still, Alex smiled as innocently as he could muster. The blood around his clothes made him look demonic and gross, so he couldn't play the nice childish persona at the moment. "Sorry… who even are you?"

"I am Ya Fei, Princess of the Wayne Kingdom." She bowed down slightly in respect.

This seemed to irritate the Green Viper, but he didn't say anything. Alex looked straight at the old man's eyes and the young child's gaze turned murderous.

"Nice to meet you, Princess Ya Fei." Alex greeted the girl who seemed to be around her twenties. He cut off his gaze with the Green Viper and looked at Ya Fei. "I will agree to your proposal. Of course, I won't do something for free. But we will discuss everything later in a more private manner."

She nodded in relief. Alex's eyes met hers and in that split moment… Ya Fei felt it… the monster hidden inside the young child she was talking to.

But in an instant the feeling disappeared, it made Ya Fei wonder if it was all just her imagination. The Green Serpent of the Tang Clan narrowed his wrinkled eyes at Alex. "Boy, be careful. Sometimes arrogance can get your head cut off."

"Hm? I wasn't arrogant, old man. I never will be. If you knew what I did, thoughts of pride or arrogance would never even enter your mind. Maybe madness? That would be the only thing left behind, old man." Said Alex, showing his sincerity in the words that he spoke.

By now, all the pain he had gone through, even in the battle against the Lightning Sage was painful as his body got electrocuted continuously. Even pain dampening spells had their limit, plus he couldn't just turn off his pain receptors or his fighting strength and instincts would suffer miserably.

It wasn't motivation that kept him going. By now it had become despair and fear, that was the strongest reason for him to keep going and increase his strength.

Some things in this world made some horror movie monsters seem like butterflies. Some creatures would torture one's soul for eternity into madness, and that wasn't the least of them. In the game, it was all fun because one would gain the insanity debuff, but in reality… that became terrifying.

The Green Serpent could see the determination in Alex's eyes so he just walked off without saying anything. Even if he wanted to say something, then what could he do? Alex wasn't someone you could push around. The last time someone did that… they lost everything, more than they had spent over a century building.

The Tang Sect's Green Serpent was respected in the Wayne Kingdom. Even considered as one of the King's advisors. But Alex had taken on Julie and came out of top once she pushed him enough, the Green Serpent doesn't want to take the risk and end up the same way. He could criticize the princess for her behavior but had no place to even say something insulting to Alex.

Fwish!

With a crack of thunder, the Lightning Sage came with a giant red snake's head over his shoulder. He looked at Alex and his eyes narrowed. "What are you up to?"

Alex shrugged. "Who knows, sometimes I am mystery to myself sometimes."
