Chapter 64: I ain't a two-bit villain

The Sword Mountain Sect, one of the semi-divisionary organizations within the Wayne Kingdom. While it didn't have the might it used to have a couple of generations ago, it was still strong in its own right.

Though it's only a second-rate sect now, and none of the members were at Legendary Rank, and their leader was over a hundred years old and had only one step in the realm.

Its residence was on the top of a mountain that looked like the tip of a sword with buildings all around it and a rich environment with natural energy which allowed all kinds of natural treasures to develop in the place. The buildings all had some traditional built, and some couldn't even be told by the other.

But the higher one went along the top of the sword, the better the houses got and more diverse. At the tip of it was a huge tower that seemed to pierce the sky, it had many levels and amongst them was a library and at the very top of the tower was the Sect Master's living quarters.

This ancient Sect that had been around for thousands of years was being slaughtered. Its members were killed like chickens, the whole Sword Mountain which housed hundreds of disciples had a frosty layer around it. The main building looked like a frosted palace, it seemed it was freezing the blood inside the body. With the other buildings being covered in ice too, the whole place seemed like a city of ice.

It would be quite the sight to look at if it wasn't for the blood that flew all around like a river as Ice Golems killed disciples and masters alike.

"What's going on here?" Asked one of the elderly men with a long flaccid mustache, he was an elder of the Sword Mountain Sect.

A bald, elderly, well-built man answered, "It's a domain, weakening us till the Ice Golems can take us down."

"What? How can someone create a domain like this?" Asked a female elder calmly while looking at the old bald man, "Can we survive this calamity, Sect Master?"

The bald man, who was the Sect's Master, looked at the ice golems slaughtering the disciples. "It depends if the Sacrificial Array-"

Before the old man could finish, an ice spike came from his blind spot. Intending to skewer him through, but instincts forged out of hundreds of battles worked in his favor.

The old man twisted his body at a speed and angle that would be impossible. He didn't need to pull out any weapon as a weapon made out of Ki was made. As it clashed with the ice it stopped the freezing spike in its tracks.

The other elders looked on in surprise, as even they didn't know that the Sect Master could make weapons out of Ki. It was a skill that required someone to have an extraordinary experience with swords. He must live and die by the sword, their whole beings must become a weapon.

Old Man, that was what the Sword Mountain Sect Master was called. He had been called that ever since he could remember. The Sect had many talented people during the old man's time, but even then, they all died eventually. After all, the prettiest flower in the garden gets plucked, and geniuses die in many ways. Some died from betrayals, some died from poison, enemy action, in battle, or they could even lose an arm or leg and that would cripple them.

Unlike in fantasy, real-life was cruel and most geniuses died before achieving their potential. That was why most Sect Masters never reached Legendary Rank because they weren't geniuses in their generation… Those guys were all dead.

That was the appeal that made a lot of talented people from all over the continent join the Magic Academy. If there was safety, at least from external enemies, a whole kingdom could hate you but wouldn't dare touch you in that place.

Still, though, none of the Elders or Sect Master had the chance to think of such things as a rain of ice coming down on the whole mountain, slaughtering anyone in their wake. Except for the senior members, no one else even had the time to react if they were hit.

But the Sect Master looked relieved at this. 'Today might be misfortune from the heavens sent to destroy Sword Mountain Sect which has stood many tribulations. But if people die on these grounds, the secret Rune Array created by the First Sect master will become stronger. Even Legendary Ranks wouldn't dare attack us so carelessly.'

"Sect Master! There is news from the capital!" A disciple wearing a bloody blue robe came towards the Elders and Sect Master. "The news is-"

Fwish!

Out of nowhere, a sword pierced the Sect Master from the back, the attack had come from the old man's own shadow.

Out of it came Lily wearing a cloak as she jumped back after the attack as the poison did its job and the Sect Master died in less than five seconds.

The Elders turned around, but it was too late for them as the disciple behind them smirked. "Die." And with that simple word being said, their bodies plummeted to the ground.

Lily frowned, "Couldn't we at least fight them head-on? None of them would be able to put a scratch on you."

The disciple who had distracted the Sect Master for a split second looked at her and smirked. "You can't be too soft-hearted Lily. Also, who knew what they had up their sleeves. Never underestimate an enemy, even if it was a cat I would fight it with full strength, never underestimating it."

The disciple's form shifted and got smaller, showing that it was Alex all along.

...

Alex knew that even as he was fighting here against people who were weaker than him, the world didn't suddenly just become less dangerous because he became a Legendary Rank Mage.

There isn't some law that said he couldn't be killed by people weaker than him. He didn't trust in his luck to save him through that, plus he had killed Legendary Ranks because they were careless, that was how most of them died, drunk on power. Thinking that they were invincible and untouchable except against other Legendary Ranks.

But he didn't bother to explain everything in detail to Lily, he could feel it, her change was coming about soon and this would ruin his chances if he said something wrong. It would make the event that he predicted to come about a lot later… or maybe sooner? Sometimes events could change in an instant, a way that was foreseen before could appear. So that was what kept Alex on his toes in times like these.

Still, Alex had to keep his mind on track, not only because it would wander around. But at certain times he felt like he could take on the world and knew how to predict the future just by calculation and his primitive knowledge of the world.

That confidence of his was dangerous and he knew it. He couldn't predict some things no matter how hard he tried and if Alex allowed that part of his mind to rule his decisions then he knew that the only thing waiting for him, in the end, would be a death like a two-bit villain. Someone who thought himself so smart that he died a stupid death.

Alex took a deep breath and yelled out. "You sect leaders have been killed!! Those who give up won't face execution!! You can even join the new Sword Mountain Sect "

Though he wasn't that loud, his calm voice reached each of the students' ears like a whisper of temptation. Since he had killed the elders and the sect master, there was no need to resist. After all, even if they did, what would it accomplish? Nothing, so the smart ones knew what to do.

Lily's frown got deeper. 'Is he going to keep his word? What is he planning with this?'
